American cheese is the worst.
Is it even real cheese? The package for American cheese says "cheese product."
"Real" cheese costs 3 times as much. Another reason I rarely eat cheese.

It started as an emulsified blend of colby and cheddar, and was originally more white in color. Today, it has essentially the same ingredients as cheese, but with more whey proteins and enzymes and other stuff. Because of the screwy ratio of ingredients, it cannot legally be sold as "Cheese". So no, it's not even real cheese.

Yeah if anything it's closer to like the velveeta "Cheese product" at this rate. I think legally it's called "processed cheese", "cheese product", "cheese food", etc. As a result, sometimes even the word "cheese" is absent. In the UK i think they call it cheese slices or something to that effect. Really only in America do we have food that's bastardized to the effect it's not legally recognizable as food.

Anyhow much Like Nemesis Maximo, I like Smoked Gouda on my toasted sandwich. Sometimes when I feel daring, I put on blue cheese crumbles.

Going to get serious for a moment (we can get back to stupidity later I promise). Would really like people's opinions on this.

Read it in a Facebook local group I frequent. The conversation was about our local animal refuge which is currently closed down. The groups admin posted this.

I want to ask you to think around the issues of veterinary costs. My perspective, and I may be wrong, is that vets capitalize on peoples vulnerabilities, their emotional bonds with their pets. Like drug dealers they reap huge amounts of money from people who love their pets. I believe the reason we have so many discarded animals is the cost of vet fees. I think it is wrong and it is time animal lovers stood up against the extortion that is taking place right under our noses. Doctors do the same thing. Reason demands that we stand back and look at weather a pet is worth thousands of dollars. I know people who have spent that kind of money on a pet. Some people will go into debt to save a pet. That is extortion.

I personally am incredibly disgusted and angry over it. Yeah, a vet bill can be expensive, but to me, if you love an animal, like you love another human being, you can't put a value on its life.

Is Sly isn that group?

But seriously, that's a personal matter. I'm all for life (as a vegetarian (you may make fun of that)), but I do consider animals on a different platform than humans. So in the end, if the cost is too high for Fluffy to live and I need food, it's cold, but there you go, Fluffy. It's harsh. It's hard to put a price on love and life, and yet it happens. Which means that sometimes Fluffy bites the dust. However, if you're going to own a pet, you take responsibility. To me, that means that the pet has a life that you will extend as long and as well as you can. So that means paying up from time to time.

Calling veterinarians 'emotional extortionists'... Is odd. Odd in the same sense that you could call doctors the same thing. They'll hold you hostage over your cancer, those bastards.

He decided that it's not just vets, it's doctors, dentists, and all other medical specialists who "emotionally extort" people.

'cause you know, all those drugs, equipment, licenses, general business expenses and professional training comes cheap.

i guess its kinda true. but it wont stop me from getting my dogs help if they need it. which i can attest to having just lost a pet after spending a pile of money. didnt help much in the long run, but she was a part of the family and at least i tried.

I'm with RhA on this one. I've had quite a few pets in my life, I got my 1st dog when I was 5. Recently I've had to make difficult decisions regarding 2 dogs. They were both pretty old, and getting sick. So it was time. On the other hand, I am also caring for some other animals, 2 of which are getting up there, and 2 more who are rather young. The old ones, if they get sick, and the vet says it's gonna be costly, then unfortunately a difficult decision has to be made. I'd rather put an animal to sleep than watch it suffer. Bottom line is, as bad as it is, most of these things come down to cost, and yes, I do agree that veterinarian services are overpriced. I think the vets could charge maybe 2/3 or half of what they actually charge and still get things done and make a profit.

I don't argue that their prices are high (but then I also don't presume to know their financial situation as this idiot does), I argue that he's a callous prat who has declared that ALL health professionals (for both humans and animals) are "emotional extortionists" who only do what they do for the money.

I have no doubt there's some Doctors and specialists out there that do that, but when it comes to Vets, I believe the majority of them do what they do for genuine compassionate reasons.

I agree with that. I also don't presume to know how everything works, (though these days all we need is Google) but I have an idea that being a vet is more like being a mechanic than being a doctor for people. It's like they have a set time and price they have to charge for each procedure they perform, regardless of how long and how much resources it takes. Whether that's true or not, I don't know, but I think it's something along those lines.

BTW, the vet I take my animals to is a stunning Dutch blonde woman in her mid-20s. :x
