Top Ten G1 Figures

Postby Starwave Prime » Fri Dec 28, 2012 3:19 am

Motto: "Our Paradigm is Paradox!"
Weapon: Sonic Sword
So I mostly collect the classics and masterpiece lines, but have only found very few G1's that I actually want due to my dislike of brick-type figures with little articulation and/or lack of resemblance to the cartoon character(I have ruled out getting op/megs/seekers/most of the cars, etc.), I have acquired G1 Jetfire and Shockwave and am quite pleased with them despite the lack of articulation as I feel the figures are great representations of the characters(aside from the obvious difference between the cartoon and toy versions of Jetfire's head/face), with that stated, what are the ten best G1 molds/figures using this criteria, in your opinion?

I wouldn't be able to give you 10 straight off the bat, but Perceptor is toon accurate and is a pretty cool toy.

Yeah Perceptor is definitely a nice G1 bot, almost bought him a few months back but he was missing everything, but he is on my radar :)

In no particular order

1) Galvatron
2) Optimus Prime
3) Soundwave
4) PM Optimus Prime (die cast reissue especially)
5) Ultra Magnus
6) K-Mart Legends Bumble Bee
7) Blaster?
8) Grimlock
9) Perceptor
10) Shockwave

Keep in mind I have never owned a Metroplex, Jetfire nor an Omega Supreme whom I think would be awesome figures.

Weapon: Blunt Force Battle Clubs
Sensing your dislike of G1 Bricks, my recommendations would be (in no particular order)

1. Soundwave
2. Jetfire
3. Any of the Dinobots especially Grimlock
4. Shockwave
5. Bruticus
6. Skylinx
7. Blitzwing
And on the more expensive side
8. Devastator
9. Mirage
10. Predaking

Keep in mind- it wont be possible to escape the toy being a brick in some way, but these have aesthetics that can soften it a bit and in the case of the combiners, offer many more points of articulation for less of a ramrod straight look.
Grimlock know how to bash brains. Maybe bash yours.

In no particular order:

Fortress Maximus (maybe brick, but that likeness is accurate to both comic and cartoon versions)
Shockwave
Jetfire
Grimlock (as well as the other Dinobots)
Devastator
Perceptor
Sixshot
Dreadwing (Darkwing and Dreadwind)
Soundwave (and any of his cassettes)
Hot Rod

I dont own much G1 but here's my own criteria for if they are good or not.

Cartoon accuracy is just a BONUS. The TOYS CAME FIRST. So, the real deal here is are they GOOD LOOKING in all their modes and are they FUN to transform and play with?

So, here's my list based on what I own:

#1: G1 Optimus Prime. That thing is just perfect in every ways. Even by today's standard!

#2: God Ginrai, AKA Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor. Sure, this is a partformer but there's so much you can do with him!

#3: Soundwave and his cassettes minions. Awesome in every ways and plenty of playability.

#4: Six Shot. As I found out recently, Six Shot is one amazing dude. So much possibilities in a mold that is so simple.

#5: Shockwave. Ginormous bot, ginormous gun, ginormous fun.

The following are Gobots. Because for many years, Gobots are part of the Transformers family. They are also vintage from before 1985. You cannot get more G1 than that.

#6: Puzzler. Six matchbox cars that are real looking, transform into individual bots AND combine into a titan without the need of extra parts. That's masterful engeneering right there.

#7: SGB Spay-C. A kibble-free space shuttle that have a unique and clever transformation. The guy could have found himself at home in the TF Armada line with his very "modern" design. A backpack, arms-panels, and an overall kick-ass robot mode.

#8: SGB Cy-Kill. The super Gobot version of Cy-Kill is not only surprisignly well articulated, but it have no dtachable parts at all, rotating all the kibble on the back in a clever way. Also, he have a "good guy" face!

#9: Tux. A Rolls Royce that change into a classy bot with a top hat. Now that's PIMP!

#10: All the "cabin headed" Super Gobots. I just love their perfectly accurate and kibble free vehicle modes and their retro robot look.

So, that's it. If you love good old bots, try adding these to your collection.

Gotta agree with the Gobots reference. Puzzler is one topnotch "combiner". imagine if Menasor was made of die-cast and rubber tires instead of just ABS/PVCs

Super Cykill too is one heavy and nice looking hombre! I managed to purchase on from a vendor from Dubai.....sh#tty box but MISB! They sure don't make toys like they used to back in the 80s. He's like 80% die-cast!
