Toy Fair 2013 Coverage: Transformers Generations

While Metroplex tried his best to steal the show, he faced some stiff competition from the upcoming Generations line. The Voyager class will see the return of true triple changers with fan favorites Springer and Blitzwing. Both feature three excellently executed modes. We also learned that Hasbro has been working with IDW Publishing to bring their character designs to life in toy form. The upcoming Deluxes will come packed with their character's Transformers Spotlight comic. These figures include Trailcutter (aka Trailbreaker), Orion Pax, Bumblebee, and Megatron in his new stealth fighter body. We were also introduced to a new line of Legends Class figures who come packed with Targetmaster-like accessory. On Display were Optimus Prime with Roller and Bumblebee with Blazemaster. Love the Generations stuff from the Anniversary line, nothing from this year though. 2014 will be a great year.

Springer is looking better after my initial disappointment that he looks nothing like the FoC artwork.

I still think Blitz looks like a brick. That's one more Blitz available to you guys.

I am liking Megatron. Art I've seen suggests some kind of energy blades instead of a cannon but he still looks fine.

To the one who said Springer is "the poor man's Defender", considr yourself slapped in the face, because this guy is BUY ON SIGHT! And to all the Blitzwing fans, happy now?

Also, about time we get some IDW figures, and a proper Orion Pax figure.

And I bet he doesn't have the weak knees of a ninety year old man.

About time. >:oP

I'm loving the crap out of Trailbreaker. Here's to hoping a Hoist will be remolded from him!

Still pissed about Optimus being Legends-scaled. :-x

The Targetmaster Bumblebee's a buy, just because he's smaller than the first Classics Deluxe, and he still pulls off a nice G1 homage.

I'm curious about Megatron. Does his fusion cannon plug into his arm like it should?

The Deluxe Bumblebee is... questionable, at best. I kinda dig him, but I love me some G1 homages with a modern twist, and in my opinion, I think the Legends is the closest we can get.

Did I mention I'm in love with Blitzwing and Springer? :x :x :x

Just as the larger-scaled Beast Hunters Optimus was derpified because someone doesn't know how to properly transform something, Blitzwing here is mistransformed as well. Here is how he's supposed to look:

Judging by the difference in headsculpts between Seibertron's and El Duque's on-site images and these, it does appear Blitzwing holds a small homage to Animated Blitzwing, that being a face-changing gimmick. I wonder if he has a crazy face... :-?

Aha! So he does have the rotating face gimmick, I thought so :)!

That's great news. It means I will be getting him after all. I didn't want that Animated style face and was hoping he had a more G1 looking face, and it appears that he does.

I have officially departed the fence :).

I am mighty impressed with Springer. All his modes are nice, clean, and crisp, just like the uniform of a United States Marine!

Damn you! I was going to pass on him, but those pics actually make him look good :(.

Grr...fine, once Takara releases him, I'll get him :P.

That Megatron looks great! I didn't expect this version of him to be made, so this is a nice surprise!

Didn't realize at first that those targetmaster prime and bumblebee figures were legends class. Judging by size they must be commander. Looks good.

why do they need to add a comic book? now the stores will charge even more for them cause they have an extra. They all look good (except for blitzwing) but unless the prices go down im going to pass. So far springer is still the only must buy for me.

I don't quite understand your logic. Voyagers are already going for about $30 here in the US and you wanna wait until it's more expensive? Why?

Because I'm willing to spend more on the better version of a figure regardless of cost. That's why I buy Takara Generations figures instead of Hasbro.

Better? In what way? Most of Takara's figure are just given a different paint job. Not much better if you ask me.

I think you may just be insane.

Finally Hasbro has put down the crack pipe, and came to their senses!!! Thank God for rehab! I am hyped about Springer, Blitzwing, and Trailc--Trailbreaker. Now if they'd just take cues from Maketoys, and TFCToys, and come up with a nicely done gestalt. I don't really care about the Beast Hunters stuff. The only one I'm buying from that series is Smokescreen.

Better paint, more paint, different (better looking) plastics much of the time. For most it's probably not worth the additional cost, but to me it is.

I have both versions of many Generations/RTS etc. figures (Takara and Hasbro) from the past several years so I can compare them in-hand and to me, the Takara versions are nearly always superior (though some more than others).

You have to keep in mind though that I'm a very picky collector. I want the very best version of every figure/character that I want, and that usually means that I must pay more and import to get it.

There's nothing wrong with the Hasbro versions, but if the Takara versions are better (which again, they usually are, at least to some degree), then that's what I'll buy.

Actually I was the one who said GDO Springer (Tomahawk mold) was the "poor man's Defender" Get your Springers right. This new one will be joining my collection, not to replace Defender but to be part of a different G1 movie display. Im not a big fan of IDW heads. Still waiting for that Blurr add on set to make him look G1. Orion Pax will also be bought on sight, but as soon as somebody does a G1 anime head, the "Optimus head with a mouth" gets thrown in my parts box. ;)

Springer superior.

Blitzwing and all the other crap inferior.

I can't believe a Springer is coming that is actually worth owning. I guess even Hasblo gets something right every blue moon.

No, you said that in the "Voyager Springer and Astrotrain revealed" topic. This is said Voyager Springer, and Astrotrain is Blitzwing.

So again, consider yourself slapped in the face.

Really like what we are seeing.

I just wish they could get someone who can transform and pose these figures right.

Also really hoping that arm cannon thing on Trailbreaker is detachable. I really hate when hasbro does that. Dont get me wrong, it's still an awesome figure that I will buy. But Id like to have the option. If he still has his hand, than it's not the traditional cannon arm. I guess only movie Bumblebees get that these days.

It appears to be removable.
