I would be surprised (and sorely disappointed) if Windblade isn't retooled/redecoed into Slipstream down the line.

Only if they get rid of the ugly head, ugly wings, and fix the terrible alt mode.

Yeah, they would have to do most of that to make a credible Slipstream retool. The altmode would stick, though. Not sure what you find so offensive about it.

Unlikely, I know, since the mold itself looks too masculine to pull off a decent Minerva.

As far as I'm concerned, Cybertron Override = Classics/neo-G1 Minerva. :)

Personally, I use the white repaint of Cybertron Thunderblast (the boat-chick). I will continue to do so until a proper one rolls in.

That's a fair substitute, but there are a number of reasons why I think Cybertron Override works even better.

1) Both Minerva and Override are (sporty) cars.
2) The color scheme works out well, though obivously Override takes some liberties if you want a strickly G1 color layout and pallette.
3) Override's head looks like a great amalgomation of Minerva's Headmaster head in robot mode and her helmet when Minerva's in human mode (apart from her transector body).
4) The two black posts behind Override's shoulders evoke Minerva's helmet ears/antennae.
5) In alt mode, Override's head sits right behind the windshield/cockpit, evoking Minerva piloting her transector in alt mode.

There's so many neat little clues, that if Takara/Hasbro didn't intend for this to be an homage, they certainly made a lot of fortunate coincidences in Override's design.

I'm questioning what exactly is right about it, as it's a bunch of jet parts stuck to a pair of non-disguised legs that have a massive gap in the middle.

It's looking that way. Not the choice I'd have made. I don't like chrome or die-cast, I think they both make a figure expensive for nothing. In terms of metal content, MP-05 Megatron tarnished, and while he's the only example of that in recent times, it still looks horrible. In terms of chrome, First Edition Optimus has his rubbing off and exposing the plastic underneath, all on a brand new, only a few weeks old, toy.

Give me glossy plain plastic any day.

It might not be transformed all correctly. Sky-Byte is obviously mistransformed, so there is precedence.

personally, I *like* the head sculpt. The wings are a bit too broad, they should be slimmer like the comic illustrations, but the head looks fine.

According to Mark Weber, the reason the Age of Extinction pteranodon is Strafe and not Swoop is because the two-headed design was deemed to be too much of a departure from traditional depictions of Swoop.

which begs the question: Who decided a two headed pteranodon was any better than a one headed pteranodon and why. they could get the same look in bot mode by just having the single head split in half like all the others...

It probably isn't a question of it being "better" but a matter of them wanting to do something "different".

As for the "why" behind the two-headed decision, probably the same reason for why Optimus has flames: "We feel that it's a cool idea."

I dunno, the more times I look at it the less likely it seems...

If Wingblade were a character in AoE I think her headsculpt would look fine alongside the ugly a** redesign of Drift, and I STILL wouldn't bother with it. The wings just look bad because some moron thought giant turbines actually looked good. They didn't look good on Thrust, why the hell would they look good on a fem-bot?

Alright, there have been 3 variants of the Potato Head Grimlock shown. The first had G1 Grimlock blue eyes, the second had derp eyes, and the third has derp eyes that have a mad expression. I'd greatly prefer the first version, but this new stock photography is cluing me in that this 3rd version is gonna go to production :BANG_HEAD: Curse you Hasbro!!! Being fair, the googly eyed look is more in line with the Potato Head figures eyes. (And this is their line, afterall) Although agreed, they look odd on Grimmy. "Almost" looks like its a remold or stuck on to the head the way some of the contour lines fit though, but I bet its ust my monitor.

So. Much. Foreshadowing.

Well, maybe not foreshadowing as much, since I doubt the robo-dinos showed up twice for thid toyline, and there was something else I thought I remembered, but these writers seem really fond of picking up pieces from old eps and running with them, or leaving us little easter eggs.

(ALso, since your comment to me about Blades being a plane I have since crammed S1 in across two evenings... WHY DID I NOT DO THAT SOONER!?) Kid show or no, that's good stuff there, and I really want a Generations style of the cast now. (You know, with knees... elbows would be nice too, I try not to be too picky). I may have to strip the Decepticon logo off a Universe Bonecrusher to be my stand-in Boulder...

the way the potato sits inside a "full suit" gives the impression these might be the smaller potato bodies they use for some of their sports lines. any confirmation as to whether or not these are "full size" potato bodies'

i definitely want Starscream but it would be sad if he's smaller than the others i have. :P
