It's been a awesome birthday all around with this final news for the day.

I want at least another movie-verse combiner and a toy line that isn't as lack luster as DOTM was.

Come on Hasbro, make it epic! I know you can do it.

Now, we have that announcement.

That, coupled with the anniversary, makes me wonder if Hasbro really DOES have something BIG planned.

Yeah. And here I had actually held out hope that a proper 30th anniversary line would be what they meant. Reissues of hard to find figures, new versions of weird stuff like Breast Force or Transforming Pretender shells, and actual Minerva...

Who knows. Maybe we'll get lucky and Hasbro will spoil the fans; but I doubt it.

Here are some updates regarding the fourth Transformers film that was announced earlier today. Director Michael Bay posted on his Shoot For the Edit forums that TF: 4 will be a "re imagining":

To clarify uninformed reports coming out of Toy Fair - Steven Spielberg and I are working on a whole new re imagining of Transformers, the fourth installment. We have been working on the idea for a few months. I'm excited about where it's headed. But first I'm doing a small $20 million dollar edgy black comedy of a true crime story set in Miami called "Pain and Gain," staring Mark Wahlberg and Dwanye Johnson, and very close to signing on a couple other great actors. I'm extremely excited to simplify my film career this spring with a great character piece.

That starts filming at the end of March. I might then jump onto a very cool television show my company Platinum Dunes is selling to a major cable network. It might be my first pilot I might potentially direct. We are still working out the details of the deal.

Michael

A press release has also been issued:

FIRST UP FOR THE PROLIFIC FILMMAKER IS “PAIN AND GAIN” STARRING MARK WAHLBERG AND DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON, FOLLOWED BY A NEW INSTALLMENT IN THE HUGELY POPULAR “TRANSFORMERS ” FRANCHISE, TO BE RELEASED ON JUNE 29TH, 2014

HOLLYWOOD, CA (February 13, 2012) – Paramount Pictures announced today that director Michael Bay has signed a two-picture deal with the studio, which will commence this spring with the filming of “Pain and Gain,” and will be followed by the next installment in the hit “Transformers” franchise.

Based on a true story, “Pain and Gain” follows a group of bodybuilders who engaged in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder in Florida. First told in an article from the Miami New Times, “Pain and Gain,” will be directed by Bay and will star Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Expected to begin production in early spring, the movie’s producers include Bay, Donald De Line and Ian Bryce.

Following “Pain and Gain,” Bay will bring audiences a new take on the “Transformers” franchise as he begins production on the fourth installment in the hit series of movies based on the best-selling Hasbro toyline. The third, and most recent installment of the franchise, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” is the fourth highest global grossing film of all time with 1.24 billion dollars of worldwide box office success. Directed by Bay, the movie will re-unite the filmmaking team from the hit franchise, including producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto and Ian Bryce; and executive producers Steven Spielberg, Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Paramount Pictures will release the film on June 29th, 2014.

“Michael has been working on PAIN AND GAIN for a number of years but has patiently waited for the perfect casting to trigger a start," said Adam Goodman, President of Paramount’s Film Group. "Clearly his patience has paid off as we couldn't be more excited about this combo. His passion for this project is just awesome."

A re-imagining...? I dunno what to expect from that o.O...But in any case I will keep myself neutral on what to expect from TF4. 2 years is a long time ~_~...By that time I probably will get re-excited about it but for now...Meh~

I don't like the idea of a reboot, it's too soon for that. Maybe take it in a different direction, but in the same continuity. Like focusing on a different group of Autobots on another planet, or possibly a prequel set on Cybertron. For the love of Primus don't title it Trans4mers.

I'm worried about the "reimagining", when it's supposed to be in the same universe/continuity.

I don't even know how you'd make that work unless they do a time travel thing. If the critics complained about ROTF and DOTM on the silly factor, then time travel will just give them HUGE ammunition to go after the film.

I'm not sure it could be handled correctly, by him.
I like Bay, I do, but those complexities aren't something you can film on a blink and you miss it kinda style.

People will be like "Wait. Wasn't he just..." and "Where are they now?!" Even if the writing would be solid, the visuals have to help sell it.

Yeah, virtually nothing of major interest happened until the end of the first season, Optimus is basically what I would call a "stereotypical Optimus", Bulkhead is no different or more established than his original character so whatever, Bumblebee is straight up screwed from the get go, Arcee is somewhat interesting but like the other characters she has an unreasonable attachment to her human partner, and the human characters still have NO good reason to be there. Megatron, oh primus, he's nothing more than a mad overlord, not cold or calculating, just another stereotypical villain throwing his weight around. He's basically more like Galvatron.

Oh and Unicron in the center of the Earth? That's not clever, that's fanfiction level of writing. Even going so far as to say "dark energon is the blood of Unicron". Yeah it's a good plot alright.
Skywarp64 wrote:and both Peter Cullen AND Frank Welker
I'm tired of Peter Cullen. "OFMG WHAT THE HELL S WRONG WIT U UR NOT TRU TRANSFORMER FAN!!!!!1111!one!!" Yeah he's kinda lost "the touch" in his Prime voice. Just doesn't sound natural anymore. As for Welker... well I just don't like the character he's portraying anyway.
Skywarp64 wrote:Optimus and Starscream with chin tumors
Took me a while to get used to the animation. You're clearly not even as open minded as I am.
Skywarp64 wrote:and some goofy subplot with an annoying human who turns out to be a twice as annoying android?
Uh, goofy? Yeah ok, so the presence of human characters in TFPrime makes sense? Please. At least they gave a reason for why Sari stuck around.

Also.

So Sari is annoying?

Beast Machines wasn't THAT bad. Still I agree. I've been waiting for a reboot since the first movie myself, and with Bay still on board, I'm afraid it will be at least three more movies before there's a chance of seeing an actual Transformers movie made.

Michal Bay wrote:I'm extremely excited to simplify my film career this spring with a great character piece.

LOL! He can't do a character based movie. He's proven that. The idea of him even trying is and imagining he'd be successful is simply hilarious.

Since the initial disappointment of DOTM and overall trilogy story, I've decided to open up my mind. And actually, believe it or not. My criticism of DOTM ruined the movie experience. I didn't enjoy it. So I've since forgiven Bay, and started liking the movies, with all their flaws. TF has always been Hasbro's, and they know what they're doing. They have costs, etc. So I'm going to switch off criticism , so that I don't hurt myself in the process. I say bring whatever you have BAY/ other director. Tf has since entered the public domain, and I intend to embrace it. In reality Bay's movies were what breathed life into it, and we are really thankful.

It doesn't matter what I want for the 4th movie. I'm sure it will surprise me either way. I would want to see more bots, more cons.

Unless Tf 4 is a g1 reboot, then It will be something.

Figures, we'll see, I'm more interested in FOC and TF Prime. 2014 is a long ways away.

**** it all

"re imagining of Transformers" it doesnt matter how you package it as long as bay and the same morons are attached its still going to be more of the same crap, either completely hand it over to Spielberg and see what he can do on his own or give it to a totally new crew. This franchise needs a reboot fast and Bay and the boys cant pull it off. They need to get rid of bayformers and anything remotely resembling it (tfprime) and start brand new, new crew new ideas new beginning. Maybe actually hire some people who have been fans since the 80s and 90s so there are people that know the franchise and didnt just google it.

Huh. And he wasn't supposed to do more TF movies so as to give a chance to possible other directors to take a crack at the franchise.

Yeah, like that would really happen... :ic$:

And it's the 30th anniversary too? Ha! Well, at least we'll get a whole mess of Generations toys 'til then. ;)

Hate to say this but if they make a movie resembles G1 and it's design....Let's just say it will have worser reception than ROTF. I'm just saying alot of people(The "normal" ones who dont care much about transformers) would hate it. And let's face it guys...Us fans vs the regular crowd? That's like 10 million vs 1 billion people...It's the truth wether you like it or not...

Just saying that if M.Bay(Or another director) wants the target audience to be us fans? The movie would have so little profit,I dont think it's even going to go into the "Top 10 movies of the year"...

Now I have been reading these pages long enough and I just finally wanted to spill my beans so to speak.

I just hate this. Yeah...that's right. I guess I am a Michael Böy hater. I don't like any of his movies now that I think of it, and unfortunaltely I don't really like his TF movies either. They could have been better, but no. And what comes to his latest comments about TF3 and problems with 3d, he kind of feels a douchebag as well. Nothing is ever his fault, but someone elses and He surely know what he is doing, for HE is the man. Sound like narsistic behaviour to me. Oh, I just wanted to clarify this, so that none of you super fanboys need to remind me of this. I like the idea of Transformers, but too bad that what comes to the movies, I'm stucked with Bay :-(

And I'm also WELL aware that this is not G1. Yes, I got that, but doesn't make these movies any better. It doesn't matter what they are. Desings are quite awful all the way, the script horrible and actors do a lame job, not to mention Michaela Båys methotd to direct things so that it makes me feel ill. And that humor...no...please..no. Maybe those G1 cartoons were not that great, but these aren't great either.

Look, Idon't want to attack agains you fans as persons, but I also hate when people, who don't even know me, are trying to tell me that my opinion is wrong and I don't understand. That I should be crateful for movies like these and I should be happy with this sh*t Michale Bor is offering me. Well, as a paying customer, I say no. No I shouldn't. I was hoping to get something else. better movies with better acting, script and robots.
Ok, the first movie wasn't that awful, but the rest are. I admit that I was fooled to see the third one. Yes, Im can only blame myself for that. But no more! No more of this dogshait! I mean..look. We are the one who make these things work. We are the paying customers and as one of those customers, I have every right to say that I'm not happy about this. It's also guite alarming that this movie consept is starting to poison other products as well. I mean look at the latest FOC Bruticus...just awful

And please, don't come to bring me any numbers that actually doesn't tell if some movie is actually good or not. Like I said, I was foolish enough to see the third one after the horrible secon movie. But can I get my money back? I don't think so. So when you think all those box office numbers, bear in mind that there as also some x amounth of money that belong to people like me, who payed to see but in the end didn't (more or less) like the movie. And one other thing is this small thingy called the inflation. For most of you most likely remember how movie tickets in the early 2000 weren't as expencive as nowadays. A simple example: Movie A was released in 2003 and lets say that a ticket was worth 5 dollars. 1000 people saw the movie, so it made 5000 dollars. Movie B was released 2011 and because of fancy 3D and inflation the price for a ticket was now 7 dollars. Now only 750 people went to see this one, but still it collected 5250 dollars. So if we just compare these different numbers (and from different era), can we say that movie B was better? Or maybe it was, but 2011 just wasn't the right time for..I don't know...My Little Pony movie. Simplified example, but like I said; those box office numbers aren't always the best way to compare movies or to say, how good something is. And lets not forget how clever marketing can make something look more desirable than it actually is.

And since here are actually some persons (at leats one that I know) who doesn't like when movies have a plot, good acting, not just paper thin characters and some other silly stuff. I got only one message for you; I don't want to talk about Movies with you, for it is a waste of my and your time.

They are just movies, I know. But now that Bay and the rest are making another TF movie(s), I just feel sad. I hoped to see something fresh and new. But no. It is also a great mystery to me how a quack like Bay can be so freaking popular. Maybe he has a cleaver marketing team or something and big names behind him. I Don't know. I just don't believe this crap anymore.

PS. One more thing. No, you don't have to be a moviemaker to say if you like some movie or not. We all can make our own decisions about things like this. And like I said; as customers who pay, it's our right as well. I'm just saying this for that happens to be a favourite argument that some people here use; "dude, you are not director like bay is...lololololo". Don't use it, please.

PSS. You know there are more directors in a world than just Boll and Bay. I case you would like to ask, if a guy like Boll would be a better choice to do these, or would I rather see him doing these. I don't want to see either of them.

First of all... you people are utterly hilarious. Its like you are all sleeper agents, and then someone says your key word "Michael Bay" and you turn into a frothing sea of anger and ludicrous statements. I knew there was a reason why I lurked/joined seibertron. Thank you.
Secondly, I will go and see the movie in 3D and buy the Bluray and enjoy the **** out of it because I am a fan of transformers, and more so, a fan of cars and planes that transform into big robots.
Thirdly, bitch all you want, the majority of you will go see it, So see you there fellas.

Transformers 4: Energon

I will buy the figures also, because they are neato-squeeto.

on a serious note, a reboot so soon is insane. but the "re-imagining" has to be done considering they killed all the decepticons.

A "re-imagining"? A reboot of the film continuity is pointless without a new director. I stuck it out through the trilogy, but TF4 will have to do some things significantly different in order to get my attention. For now, color me unimpressed.

When (hopefully "if", of course) new film comes out - just download it, if you wish to look at, but dont go movie, and no buy the dvds.
Just to make sure, that Bay dont get a bad idea, about how we are liked to be raped.

I did not want to post a long narrative but I have been a fan since 84 and moved away from the franchise as I got older. I got back into it when I discover alternators while shopping for toys for my son, being a big car enthusiast that line pulled me back in and my collection grew with alternators and masterpiece.

The first movie was not bad, but still had a ton of opportunity, I was hoping for more in the second installment, but left the theater saying what the @#$& was that. By the third movie I did not even go to the theater. I still have not sat down and watched the whole movie, I have only seen parts of it. What I have seen has all been really bad and really centered on people with the Cybertronians being secondary props (I saw the Starscream death scene)enough said.
I would really love to see something different, WFC was fresh and new and I like the creativity.
It seems like at least one third of the fan base (look at the post around here) is unhappy with the movie fiction. A reboot with Spielberg at the helm would at least been a step in the right direction (at least he is a fan of the franchise).
