Transformers Armada on DVD!

Well just in Germany, this is quite old but I only just found it.
The German Transformers Fan site TheTransformers.de has two articles concerning a German DVD Box release of Transformers Armada for 2008.
The fans can choose what kind of extras are to be put in it, on the site you can even see concepts of the box set.

I think this is kinda sweet, I may buy it if the quality is good.

Man that's cool that you get to vote on the extras.

I didn't get the US set cause I managed to get the import version for $20.01 off ebay. It's an awesome huge tupperware like box, but no features.

So good luck and post what specials they decide to go with!

Till now it looks like the extras will feathure the english dub, German and international TV spots, Blank opening and endings and some interviews.
Sounds OK with me.

Misses the Japanese dub (given that the English dub was allegedly based on Japanese scripts, that would be the original dub to me and the English one unnecessary) and raises the question whether there'll be subtitles (and which version they'll come from) or dubtitles. Rest depends upon price, international TV spots and blank opening and endings are rather standard extras. And the extras seem to be more or less suggestions so far, nothing definite, yet.

Not to mention that I remember vaguely zapping into of the episodes and being repulsed by cast and story.
Was the series even successful? As far as I remember the broadcaster left out half the series and it was never even rerun.

And another question, I read that the English dub was hideous and full of mistranslation, is there a corrected version in existence?

Yea those are pretty standard extras they want till now.

I don't know if it was successful I guess not, cos they brodcasted it at a really crap time, but the few that saw it loved it, just I was biassed against it cos it wasn't G1.

They left out al of the first half exept for the first 5 and then continued with the Unicron Battles, with the explanation that they wantd to show just the best episodes. #-o

Since RTL2 had the rights to the show the US dub is the original, since they always use US versions of Anime shows for the translation, is a lot easier and cheaper that way.

But it may have the Japanese dub, who knows.

As far as I know there exists no such thing as a correct English dub, just a fan sub which is soposed top be a lot better plot wise.

RTL2 used the US broadcast version for Yugioh and Pokemon, too, but the Japanese dub is still the original. And the foreign broadcast rights don't necessarily hinge on RTL2. Deending upon who order the German dubbing, not even that might.

There's also the question, which picture version they'll use. The US one had animation errors and the like and was apparently later finished for the Japanese release.

The sub uses the original Japanese animation.
And RTL2 ordered the dubbing for Armada.
If a anime was realased in the US, they will always use that as the base for the translation, just like Naruto.

Actually they won't always use them. Dragonball was done from the Japanese version (not that that helped), although they took the edited French video for it. Pokemon, One Piece and Digimon are in parts translated from the Japanese version.

And Naruto was a joke, I think it was stated somewhere, that they used the US video (more like butchered it), but translated from the Japanese (more butchering).

Afair, Inuyasha was massacred (?) from the Japanese version, too.

Ah I didn't know about Dragonball, Inuyasha wasn't even don by RTL2! All they did was give it a new crappy opening song, the exact same dub was used 1-2 years before by Viva using the Us opening son!

Yes, Inuyasha was ordered by RTL2, who at first chickened out of showing it (despite having their wicked way with the dub, no more killing or even hurting someone). And the dub, done for RTl2, and unedited video, was first show on MTV2. RTl2 started broadcasting the cut version, about a month after MTV2, when the series was still running on MTV2.

MTV2 did not use the US opening, they used a song for some group the wanted to promote at the time (<i>Star</i> by Nova International, the frigging song was about Cadillacs and London). The RTl2 song was at least remotely connected to Inuyasha ("Flieg durch die Zeit", which Kagome is clearly shown doing during the opening), but it was still their usual unimaginative Andi Knote - Tocyo Pop drizzle.

Inuyasha was never shown on VIVA.

And I'm no ones son.
