Transformers G-1 "Custom" CCG Back and Better!

I figured since CCG cards are placed usually in toy sections and such, that I should place this here..

Awhile back I did a few transformers CCG mock up cards, with the purpose of trying to do a G-1 inspired game..the focus was mainly on fighting battles with some minor upgraded rules for gestalts.. so I have been thinking about getting back into doing these cards and offering them up on some kind of PDF for all to buy and print out.. maybe even the backsides would be folded or something on a semigloss card stock..

this would be exclusive only to seibertron members..

but anyways, these are the older ones..I can update them with newer skins for the cards themselves..so just let me know if you guys want me to continue this endeavor..

BELOW, THESE WERE THE OLDER CARDS, scroll down for the new ones!:

I've got a zillion Yugioh/Magic doubles that I'd love to post these over once I get my hands on a coloured printer, and once you design a back-card image :P

Sweet! I got some new ideas and some newer updated images I can use to get these to look way better.. I'm gonna start working on them to get them ready for you guys.. it'll take me about 1 month to get a good set ready.. what I will do is update them in this thread, and the hard copies.... I don't know where to upload for download?? could I just do them as a downloadable file in Photobucket?

Well I could save them up individually and then package it up into a .rar file and plug it into rapidshare or megaupload :).

true true.. but I did find a site that makes cards for you and they are really extremely cheap!!

Anyhow, Remember how I said I was going to redo the cards I posted earlier??

Well here it is! the New and Improved Transformers Custom CCG! Front and Back Images!

If you notice the card itself is similar in the rules to the original, but I took out some minor things, that were just not needed..I'm no CCG Expert, just a transformers fan who wants to have some Generation 1 fun.. so I devised some really excellent and simple rules that will allow player to play and you don't have to go to a college course to understand how to play.. not only that, but you will also have gestalt rules later.. and maybe even a universe crossover ruling.. we'll see.. right now I am focused on doing the G-1 Universe..

IF YOU SEE THIS CARD, YOU ARE ALMOST THERE, KEEP SCROLLING DOWN!

so here is the new card design.. I hope you guys like it..
Image
If you are interested in what the card's rules mean:

the numbers on the Octagon tells the strength, speed, endurance, intelligence.
the total number is listed after the bots ranking..
the top box has their faction affiliation, and the bottom rules are for interaction with other weapons and attack cards..plus a quote..this particular Prime is the strongest.. and his quote and image correspond to his final battle in the G-1 Movie..Another Prime will be done later and will reflect his G-1 episodes version..

In some cases upgrade cards will be found, which will add to your total Hit points..like for instance sideswipes Jetpack..this adds to prime's HP and to his ability to take a turn..(because he is faster with the Jetpack on) and so on and on..the bottom right side has the number of the card out of 100.

(though I think I'll be very tired trying to make 100 of these cards..)

So I have allot of work here on this, but the rules are pretty easy..just simple character card and his action cards.. the object of the game is to defeat your opponents in fighting.. and you can call up a reinforcement to take the turn of one of your characters.. but their HP score remains the same.. unless you have an Energon card, which can revive their health..but that character out of turn must come back into play on the next turn.. and so on.

I have allot to do.. and a whole rule book to write as well.. but I will update more cards as I go along.. like some of the battle cards, and individual "upgrade" cards..

Hope you guys like this! :D

Thanks I appreciate the Support, and that you enjoy them so far. :APPLAUSE:
As for how I made these, well that is easy..

I designed the card in Paintshop Pro 12, and then layered most of it as a template..
the bottom layer is where I inserted a screen cap of the characters..using WINDVD. then I added the rules and text, and that's it!

the hard part was coming up with the card's design.. but I decided to go with Teletran 1, as a perfect choice.. kinda makes you think you are watching these stats on your own computer or something..

as for making these new cards I'm doing, if you want, you can download the card image and save it on your computer, and then print it out on cardstock.. then just fold over the back or cut it and replace on the back of the front image and you will have your own custom Transformers card game.

I may try to get these professionally printed..someday..

Okay guys here it is, the 1st 10 custom Transformers CCG Cards!!

I have about 10more to make, and then this 1st set will be final..
Next after I release 10 more cards, I will be doing the action cards, power ups, and location cards..

specific rules on the character cards act in conjunction with the action cards, and location cards.. it should all work out pretty easy in the end.. trust me, this game will be so easy anyone can play..

Here are the 1st batch of cards..Optimus Prime, and certain other characters will have rares created, some are more powerful then their regular cards..

YOU MADE IT! :APPLAUSE:

This is brilliant! Growing up playing the UK card game Top Trumps, I recently sought out the Transformers TT and discovered a rather poor attempt at it, to the point that I thought of doing it myself. I like the tech specs clearly spelled out in the early design; otherwise, yours works out fine. :APPLAUSE:

thanks man! the beauty of this game is that even if you don't play CCG games you can learn this easily..

Wow! I am stunned by the brilliant comment..

yeah you see the Tech specs are still there, only now they are simplified and dictate the base HP your character card posses..so they are color coded for easy recognition..

Red: Strength
Blue: intelligence
Yellow: Speed
Green: Endurance

this gave me more room to display rules and the art.. as my little brother has instructed me, since he's a CCG freak, that what makes the cards they sell now adays sell and popular is not the rules, rather the ability to have simple rules, and more character based images on the card.. it is the art that people desire the most.. so I modified the cards to reflect that.

wow! thanks man! I got more cards in the works, I apologize for the delay..

Looks like a good start! I really like the templates you started.

skywarp-2 wrote:it is the art that people desire the most.. so I modified the cards to reflect that.

I respectfully disagree. However, the simple rules comment was right on. What seems to be the real key to most (but not all) of the successful and popular CCGs/TCGs is that the rules are simple, but the strategies can be deep. Creative card design is used to bring in the deeper strategies and really carry the mechanics - the rules are just a framework.

If you take a look at things like Magic, Pokemon, even Decipher's Star Wars game to a certain extent, you can see that the rules set up a play system and ways to play costs, as well as when and what order to play cards in. However, there aren't a ton of rules beyond that - the cards interact with each other in subtle ways.

I have a few more design and game play thoughts and critiques - if you're interested please PM me so that we don't clutter up the board.

Good start - good luck!
I.P.
