Diaclone Magnus is the traditional palette swapped; whereas Ultra Magnus is predominately blue with red and white highlights, Diaclone Magnus is predominately red with blue and white highlights.

Diaclone Magnus actually appeared in the Japanese G1 cartoon series ? Which one was this ? Did any other Diaclone characters come out ? (red sunstreaker/yellow Sideswipe/red mirage)

Movie Preview Trailer. It was shown to theater owners to pitch the 1986 movie (in development at the time):

Movie preview trailer on YouTube.

Don't pay attention to the music or try and find it, it's straight from Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (I think)

While I do appreciate the history lesson, you guys gotta relax a little bit... I AM just talking about what I wanna pretend MY extra magnus is called. I'm not trying to define what's a perfect color match or what Hasbro intended... just my extra dude.

Since this Magnus retool doesn't have the white cab, it's tough to say exactly how the colors would swap out "officially." All I'm really going by is how the hues look kinda look like the right blue/red.

That said, I've decided to MY extra dark blue Magnus "Diaclone-Smurfberry-Crunch-Hero-Prime", and you can all kiss my skidplate if you want to argue with it.

What JelZe said: this was when the animated movie was still under development, and Ultra Magnus's final colors weren't finalized. I kinda dig Diaclone Magnus's palette.

All things considered, I think maybe just painting the head red for a Diaclone custom may be the best color match. Hero prime is a bit darker blue, though he does have the nice grill in his chest. Tough choice which one to make a custom of.

Yeah, after tax being $17.31 for these hollow, cheap-plastic, undersized deluxe figures is painful.

That's $86.55 for the wave of five. Might as well get it at BBTS for $84.99 and ship it with stuff in my pile of loot.

Just got my share of Wave Three: looking at Starscream and Ultra Magnus (they were the only ones at my local TRU), I really liked both. However, gotta get Swindle first, then I'll start on Ultra Magnus, since I kinda want to try to get the Masterpiece Seekers first before getting other multiuniversal Seekers.
