I will believe in this statement when TTomy gives me my white leg MP Red Alert! Hopefully Hasbro will give me cartoon accurate Red Alert.

that's when you'll believe it? there are two instances of it not being the case yet TONS of instances where it is the case?.. and because of the two, you're choosing not to believe it? the three different datsun heads.. the wheels on red alerts shoulders, magnus being a TRUE magnus, hell hot rod's paint job.. that isn't proof enough?

again, the masterpiece line is based mostly on the cartoon.

if you want a white prime.. get the MP01 repaint.. but that isn't ultra magnus to most people.. ultra magnus to most people is what we saw in the '86 movie.. he was never a white prime in the cartoon.

because you can't have normal prime beat up a white magnus is a pretty lame reason. . i assume you have zero attachment to the movie or season 3..

this is going to divide people, why? who knows. i can be picky, but not having a white prime inner body is overly picky.. this is supposed to be ultra magnus as he appeared in the movie/season 3.. and this figure accomplishes that flawlessly.. and it accomplishes that while being accurate in its look, size, and features.

it just baffles me that people can pass on a beautiful figure like this because there's no white prime.. which, mind you, has been the bane of the fanbase for a long time.. there've been TONS of people who are sick of the white prime repaint.

I'd MUCH rather have a masterpiece ultra magnus figure that looks accurate to the show rather than make ridiculous unnecessary compromises to fit a white magnus in it. if they're able to do it, that's cool, but if they can't then i'm COMPLETELY happy with the result. i'm surprised that there are people who aren't.

I'm asking myself the same question. (EDIT: Just saw Burn's reasoning,I can get behind play value. B) ) Yes, we always knew about the little Prime dude, but how many times has it figured into Magnus' character? I mean, actually figured in? Once? The DW comic in which Scorponok strips him naked with a blaster? I don't really count Minimus Ambus of IDW because that's less of a Cab Robot and armor and more like the Heavyload Minicon riding aroud inside Cybertron Menasor's chest, alhough even counting him, that's what, two times in his entirety that Magnus has not been a big-hulking truck robot?

I'd kinda like to know how this guy will scale next to Generatrions Deluxes, like Jazz and such

He's talking about play value, and as a kid in 1986 at that. And as a child, Having two bots tossing access to the armor around like a spare side-arm is perfectly logical play, Season 3 or not.

I'm well aware of that. Doctor McGrath asked why not having a white robot was a deal breaker for some and I answered from my own personal experiences.

if you want a white prime.. get the MP01 repaint.. but that isn't ultra magnus to most people.. ultra magnus to most people is what we saw in the '86 movie.. he was never a white prime in the cartoon.

So ... you're judging 10 year old me for playing with my toys in a way I wanted to? Whatever.

but not having a white prime inner body is overly picky..

No, it's called wishful thinking.

this is supposed to be ultra magnus as he appeared in the movie/season 3.. and this figure accomplishes that flawlessly.. and it accomplishes that while being accurate in its look, size, and features.

So you're opinion is based on blurry prototype images, but screw nostalgia huh?

it just baffles me that people can pass on a beautiful figure like this because there's no white prime.. which, mind you, has been the bane of the fanbase for a long time.. there've been TONS of people who are sick of the white prime repaint.

Dreamwave established White Prime.

And yes, I detest White Prime repaints labelled as Ultra Magnus. But a White Prime repaint that can combine with his trailer for the traditional Ultra Magnus look? I'm okay with that.

And as I said, if the separate white robot doesn't happen, I don't have a problem with that. (And I'm sure my 10 year old self wouldn't either)

i'm surprised that there are people who aren't.

It's called different tastes.

Actually, no one stripped Magnus of his armor. He stripped himself, after his armor became damaged. And it was Shockwave who blew 1 of his arms off after Magnus saved Optimus. :-B

It's 1 of my favorite comics moments, though I have no problem with not having a white Prime inside the armor, just having the white cab as part of the overall robot, which is what Titanium and KFC did.

I need to go back in time and read that comic. And actually, the Titanium cab WAS removable with a screwdriver and a few twists. Not that it did you any good, but replace the screw with a slot and tab, upscale the figure by quite a bit, and it could actually transform...

Eh, I'm not sure about the shoulder articulation. The shoulder could easily swivel outwards with a universal joint inside the shoulder pad. Too much to speculate from a few blurry pics of a prototype.

Ugh. Don't remind me...but at least that wasn't a MP figure, nowhere near it. Looked pretty good in truck mode, pretty much worthless in robot mode. He was good for only being the armor for Omega Prime.

Looks like the top of the cab (opened up) is hanging at the base of his back, with the windshield right above it. I wonder if the cab is hollow. :-?

I don't mind the lack of an inner white prime if it means that Ultra Magnus will have articulation.

Thanks for the link!

I'm pleasantly surprised that Takara didn't go with the "parts-former" approach. I like the fact that in the cartoon, my favourite character, Optimus Prime, doesn't share a character design with other Transformers. No white Convoy, no Nemesis Prime.. none of that stuff, he's completely unique. Likewise, Ultra Magnus.

I do like that they have the same cab model in truck mode though, it was a nice reference to Prime when he was written off; and it also kind of adds to the premise that they go way back. (and Takara matched it perfectly.)

Good to have another tall guy in the line up. :) The scale of Prime and his Masterpiece troop is perfect, but surrounded by 5 Autobots of average height, Prime sometimes feel like Gulliver.

That clearer image certainly shows how awesome he looks.
Although, I must admit, considering he isn’t a parts former of a robot in armour…he looks rather…kibbly and broken up? Not sure if you can see what I mean.
For those hailing the cartoon accuracy (those using it as means to shoot down those of us that wanted inner robot in armour) when did he ever have what appears to be a very short cape?
To weigh in on why I’d prefer MP Magnus to be a white Prime in armour (which I thought was a good question, presented rather politely); Play and display value. (excuse some of the mess, have some Kit-bash fodder lying around…):
Image
(I realise some of these configurations are not completely accurate to the powered convoy ones…I did this real quick…) I mean, imagine all these options at Masterpiece scale!
And I can’t be the only one that arranges my ‘adult collectables’ in displays like this?:
Image
I mean, I know non of us are 8 anymore, but c’mon, fun play and display options were what MP-10 was about…I guess I was just hoping MP-22 would have the same spirit.

To tackle TimothyR ,not quoted for (relative) shortness; This kind of reasoning and nonsense bothers me. You would honestly want toys to be restricted by a cartoon that didn’t know it’s own head from it’s own arse? Season 3 had no concept of continuity (visual or written), and to say ‘it never happened in the cartoon’ whilst true, again isn’t concrete. Rodimus was never Hot-Rod slotted into a trailer, oh except that one episode where people over at Akom felt it needless to follow the characters model. Yet MP-09 exists. Rodimus never split from his trailer to form a base, but I’m glad MP-09 took from the toy on that aspect. It’s fun, and adds options. Even MP-10 has options taken from the toy that were never used (or needed) in the show. Roller and the trailer base were akin to AI, they don’t need a pilot, but to respect the toy and have some fun the seats for Spike were added.
So it was never seen in official fiction, big whoop. I suppose you carry a cross and a vile of Holy water just in case you are subjected to an image of the MP datsuns sporting the toy accurate shoulder launchers from Amazon. Some of us enjoy flexibility in toys and display pieces.
I don’t think a white Prime in armour would have ruined the aesthetic of the final Magnus Bot that much. He would still look like the cartoon, with good design and engineering which I have no doubt TT are capable of. The biggest bane would be partsforming, which usually bothers me too but Magnus will always be an exception for me, if and when offered. This view on what Magnus ‘should be’ based on his fiction appearances is yours, and worthy of respect. What’s troublesome is your post doesn’t afford the other side of the fence the same respect and courtesy.
This was always going to be a decision split right down the middle. TT made their choice and this time the winning side wasn’t mine. Even after not getting what I want, you don’t see me or the others being rude and insisting the other side is wrong due to ‘facts’ buried in relativity and pedantry.

Despite all this, it looks damn good! Can’t wait to see it in his colours. I definetly want one, Magnus is too awesome not to own! I love animated and both TF: Prime incarnations for breaking from the ‘white Prime in armour’ concept…but I hoped a ‘perfect’ G1 Magnus would incorporate it. Just different ideals, that’s all it is. Like I said, one side was always destined to ‘loose’. Given how good this looks…it’s not much of a loss. But for me, a part of me is disappointed.

If I feel rich enough maybe one day I’ll buy a second and attempt a kit bash…

I'm pleasantly surprised that Takara didn't go with the "parts-former" approach. I like the fact that in the cartoon, my favourite character, Optimus Prime, doesn't share a character design with other Transformers. No white Convoy, no Nemesis Prime.. none of that stuff, he's completely unique. Likewise, Ultra Magnus.

I do like that they have the same cab model in truck mode though, it was a nice reference to Prime when he was written off; and it also kind of adds to the premise that they go way back. (and Takara matched it perfectly.)

Basically, this toy hits the nail right on the head for you. Good for you! This is what I like to see :BOT:
MP-09's execution was a bane for some, but to me it's perfect! I now have the tables turned on me

I would love it if the inner white robot some what resembled Minimus Ambus from MTMTE.
