TRANSFORMERS MOSAIC: "Dominion"

Postby WhiteRabbit » Thu Dec 06, 2007 11:51 pm

The Universe of the Transformers is vast, and populated by many characters. Their universe is a large tapestry, made up of the stories and points of view of countless experiences that serve the larger whole.

These are some of those stories. This is:

It should be noted that while this project has been recognized by IDW Publishing and Hasbro, none of the works presented have been commissioned or solicited by either company. The stories are not official canon, except where noted.
These stories are the result of Transformers enthusiasts taking the time out of their busy days to contribute to a universe they love.
No one has been paid for the production of these stories.

Today's piece is titled "Dominion". Story by Keith (Neospringer) Saturn, Art by Josh (DCJosh) Burcham, Letters by Kris (Drivaaar) Carter, Edits by Josh (Richter) van Reyk.

One look is enough to tell the artwork and colours are by Josh. He's got a very unique style. I have not been able to read most of IDW's tf comics, so I don't quite understand what's going on.

I love it. Megatron comes across as very driven by his destiny and his goals. I love that Megs believes in his cause, like it's for the greater good.

This is easiliy my fave Mosaic piece so far. No story ever shows what's really going on in old Megatron's head this much. It's so awsome to see his point of view of the war in his own words...

That's an interesting Mosaic

Although I thought the Prime of Megatron's beginnings was *Sentinel* Prime, not *Nova* Prime.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care for these mosaics? Sure they're for the most part well made, and its obvious that time was put in and a great effort was made, however the stories are rather too short, and in a few instances on some of these I saw conflicting facts. While I don't remember off hand, but wasn't the prime in the megatron origins stories sentinel prime? I could have sworn nova prime was in a different comic series.

He mentions the "bygone era of Nova Prime" which predates the Bot/Con war and disappeared with the first ark. Sentinel Prime was the Prime at the time of Megatrons uprising which happened later.

Josh, I was just wonder recently as to when we'd see a mosaic from you. Good stuff.

There is just something about this piece. It's very in-depth. It's also very complete. The art is very unique too.

All in all, I'd say it's probably one of the best all-around Mosaic's I've read yet. Most definitely top-notch ;)^ .

I think you are half-right. I personally wish all these would be truly stand-alone pieces, and not tying into all the different comic series I've never read. I mean, I'm not saying these are badly done or anything like that, but I just think these sometimes feel less like one page short stories, and more like extensions of comic universes.

I like the art and idea. I don't like the writing on this one, it seemed a little cluttered. Not to say that it is written poorly, just that too much is going on in one page. But I still like it and hope you all continue to make many more.

So I guess that, before 'Megatron: Origin', Megatron was more of an agitator than a warlord. I bet he was doing a lot of network hacking and persuasion.

Yeah I agree. THese folks that are creating these for fun without getting paid and are doing it for the enjoyment should just make the stories longer, spend a lot more time on them and follow a very strict set of rules as to what they can draw/write about.

This is is good one. I havn't seen one this good in a few weeks. First off Keith, nice job. Tight writing, good work on getting in the head of Megatron. While you have taken liberties with some facts (assuming Megs was anything before origins), they don't feel like you're bending facts to make them fit. Hard to do with a TF origin reference/story of any type, as i'm sure Eric Holmes can tell you. And Josh, needn't say that your coloring is amazing as always, but your pencils work really well. They are your own style, more cartoony than E.J. and Milne, but work well with the design.

My only critism isn't with your personal work, it's based on opinion. I feel like the Megatron we met in Infiltration is dissapearing again in official and fan work. Since that is the best incarnation of the character i've ever seen, i feel the need to say something. That character seemed like a true milatary leader. The kind who not only follows a military attitude, but makes decisions so keeps a political/personal view as well. That character seemed to have no question of right/wrong, but more of the proper/improper action attitude. He is not driven by personal agenda but by fullfilling the agenda of a force outside himself(even if he is the voice of that force) The kind of character that has dealt with personal issues/ conflicts and has reached a point where it is about acheiving them. This may be long winded, but please bear with me. I see this character as one who has thought about right/wrong and decided it is beyond call. So whether it is right to conquer a planet, or whether it is his destiny to rule the universe if beyond the point. Cybertron is gone, fact, the TF's will die without resources, fact, and the only route to survival is to take resources when available, without cybertron (the real home, no substitutions allowed) this means taking planet after planet, since resources are not replenishable. Every attempt at explaining Meg's has been about what drives him, what he cares about. But so far these have (iMO) lessened the character. The one we met is one who is beyond ideology, he's milatary: A realist and a survivalist. He simply will not submit and lay down. If he has not way of living he's quite willing to take from others, simple survival being enough justification.

I'm not saying that his motivations are a bad thing to explore. But none of the explorations seem to lead to the mature milatary leader concerned with the means to an obvious end (survival, can't argue with that)that was presented to us. I actually don't want to know why he started his conflict, because every writer has made it so ideological. I think Meg's is more like the fighters in the middle-east. Some of them are ideological, but most (when it comes down to the truth) simply want a guarenteed future for themselves/their clan. They see being a warlord as the only way to acheive that realistically and thus fight regardless of long-term consequences as a whole. This would match the megatron presented in infliltration much more than what has been presented. one who can't live under cybertron/(what will be called) autobot rule. so he fights it. The planet dies, so he moves on to take resources from other worlds, no room from ideology. Sorry to take up so much space, but i felt that this must be said.

that aside, great job to the creative team. This is one well executed and entertaining mosaic. I hope to see more from both the writer and the artist.

I like that Thundercracker is told to join Starscream's Unit, always take the three seekers to work together, and the Origins comic does nothing to dissuade my thinking.

Nice idea of mentioning that Megatron was very much around during the age of Nova Prime, so he is far older than many would think from his Origins comic.

Wonder what kind of "Revolutionary" he was though...

I have to put my two cents in here. It was coincidence that I red Megatron origins yesterday and then read this mosiac like two hours later. I thought it went well together it fit in like it was supposed to be part of the story. Great job!
Origins was very cluttery and hard to follow.
