Actually K-9 Mk. 1 stayed with Leela on Gallifrey. K-9 Mk. 2 stayed with Romana in E-Space. The Doctor built Mk. 3 as a gift for Sarah Jane Smith. Mk. 3 was blown up after detonating a barrel of Krillitane oil, which the Doctor replaced with a new K-9 model (Mk. 4?).
