Well, when you make a figure that has to be both a humanoid, something else and a limb something has got to give. Either you make it large and complicated, make some mode lacklustre or have it reassemble somehow instead of transform. I suppose that separate hands and feet would have helped a lot but they haven't done those in forever as far as I am aware.

That these particular figures are so small and turn into beasts instead of something nice and blocky like a jeep doesn't make things any better, either.

You and I had roughly the same reaction. Hope we see a fully colored model at Toyfair!

And am I the only one who sees Blight/Blot as a major improvement over his G1 self? Even if he is, er, legion sized? I really like the design.

On topic, this looks pretty cool actually! Looking forward to colour pictures, just to figure out if it beats retail FoC Bruticus at SKITTLEPOWER.

I'm a bit confused, the other terrorcons will see individual releases alongside twinstrike or just in the gift set? Is twinstrike getting remolded to be able to combine?

It's very interesting, I'll admit, but I personally want a Deluxe-scaled team. Oh, and none of that Scramble City combining crap. That and the retail colors are the only things I didn't like about Fall of Cybertron Bruticus. Just like Fall of Cybertron Springer and Astrotrain, I'll let El Duque and our supreme overlord Seibertron take a few pictures of what they got at Toy Fair before I start budgeting.

An easy way to move the most product and to make collectors happy would be for Hasbro to sell the Cyberverse gift pack (with a Cyberverse Hun-grr) and then to sell a Deluxe Hun-grr that could combined with the Cyberverse limb toys. Sort of like an official/optional upgrade. Hasbro makes the same figure in different sizes anyway, so it wouldn’t be that much more effort for them. Easy solution that makes everybody happy.

not keen on double dipping but i do like the idea. a deluxe might be able to have a couple of hands thrown in, or have his own be removable maybe?

Yeah, let 3rd party handle it. And then the thing costs a fortune.

Seriously though, let's give them credit where credit is due. Combiners are nasty mother-truckers to get right. As mentioned earlier, they have to have a robot mode, vehicle mode AND limb/torso mode. The G1 combiners had OK-ish vehicle modes but rather iffy combined modes, horrible robot modes and a whole truckload of junk that has nowhere to go when not combined, the Energon combiners (the Scramble City style combiners, not the Powerlinx toys) had decent robot modes, cool vehicle modes and no leftover parts, but had a rather meh combined mode and only 3 different molds per 5-bot team, Landfill from had decent individual bots but a TERRIBLE combined mode, ROTF Supreme Devastator didn't even have seperate robot modes (although in his defence, in the movie he appeared to be a gestalt being split into several non-sentient parts rather than a traditional combiner), the Power Core Combiners were quite good, and a cool idea, although the lack of limbbot robot modes was a shame, FOC Bruticus has OK vehicle modes, variable robot modes (ranging from mediocre, such as Onslaught, to great, such as Brawl) and a combined mode that is impressive for how much it achieves with no seperate hand, foot, head or armour pieces, but looks rather disjointed. The TFC Hercules is great, but has limited shoulder articulation and his hands have nowhere to go in the separate modes (grr), MakeToys Giant is pretty good and turns his forearms into rather nifty trailers (a touch I like) but has a slightly oddly proportioned combined mode with oversized feet. The best combiner so far is the Fansproject Bruticus, which I admire for giving every single component somewhere to go in every mode (although the partforming still annoys me) but let's not forget that he is still at least 75% HasTak molds, so FP can't take all the credit.

Snipping out the part I want to address.

The FOC Combaticons have five robots, each with articulated robot modes, distinct vehicle modes, and combine to form a super robot with head, waist, leg, knee, shoulder and even some elbow articulation. Any limb can swap with any other limb. And it does this without any extra pieces or parts-forming.

It's not perfect, but damn, it does a lot of things right! It's better than any G1 or Energon combiner that I have. And I can get the whole set for $60. For the love of Primus, people, get a grip!
For the love of Primus, why must I be a Mississippi State fan?

I don't get me wrong, I like FOC Bruticus (although I have never seen it in person). My only gribble is that the limbs look slightly out of rpoprotion with each other. That aside it's a great figure.

Much like FoC Bruticus, I do think this is a step in the right direction for Hasbro. its easy to pick out what's wrong with a toy, but it dosnt mean the toy did nothing right. in my opinion, Bruticus' faults could be narrowed down to Onslaught's size and Blast-off's arm mode. other than that, Bruticus was quite and impressive and imposing figure.

Abominus here dosnt look to be configured right (I think cutthroat and sinnertwin are supposed to be the legs and the other 2 are the arms), but man am I impressed. sure, he dosnt have hands, he has GIANT FREAKING CLAWS with heads on the talon tips. any autobot who meets that thing is sure to oil themselves.

just want to say that re FOC Bruticus. I've been on the edge of ordering a few times, but laughed a bit at the idea of Brawl's robot mode being considered great, I think it's terrible. Admittedly I don't have it, it might be better in person.

I like this little guy though, and regardless of flaws I see, will be glad to pick him up.

I've gotten it to where Vortex is just a smudge shorter than Blast Off in their arm modes. Granted, it's not perfect, but then again, nothing is.

I'm in. The small size actually reminds me a lot of G1 (people around here seem to forget that back in the G1 days, the average size of the figures, especially combiners, were teeny compared to today, although of course they did have actual frickin' METAL and TONS of this substance that Hasbro has forgotten exists called PAINT :P).

The combined mode isn't that impressive and reminds me a lot of Grimstone and the Dinobots, but I'll still get them, but will likely keep them all in beast mode.

Hasbro forgot what paint is? Don't you mean Takara with their Arms Micron (and I love AM)

but yea, odds are these legion figures will be very close to the size of G1
