So I guess that means the Orion Pax/Megatronus story line won't be a long one then? That's cool, so bring on the new characters!

They did it! They did the one thing that I knew would cheapen this whole thing! I wanted to have faith in them being able to really write something interesting, but NO! They didn't have the guts to go through with this! They go to the lengths of creating this really creative storyline to end the first season cliffhanger with, and they can't even go more than ONE episode with it! They couldn't last more than ONE episode without trying to bring back the show's WORST CHARACTER! They build up this really cool idea and then decide to just flush it down the drain before it can even take off! That is pathetic! Season 1 could barely tell a coherent story! Now season 2's no longer looking to be any brighter than the first. Bigger and better, my foot! They can barely crank out the good material without chickening out on it. What, are they afraid of telling a good story? Do they not want their stuff to be well liked? Must they continue to shove out a majority of subpar "cool/dark for the sake of being cool/dark" plots? This isn't the Bay movies here. They are not restricted to just flashy spectacles here. Give us a GOOD story. One with genuine sincerity and fun to it. Not some shallow action with no heart and all this predictability. Give us something new! Something great! Actually try to go above and beyond this mundane status quo that is keeping this show from really taking off!

Transformers Prime : Orion Pax - Part 2
(First Aired: February 25, 2012)
Jack learns how to restore Optimus' memory.

Here's hoping Jack's actual effort to do so backfires or fails miserably.

Ummm, it's a two part episode.

As for the story, even my wife loves it...and she hates it when I go on Transformers DVD kicks. She hates TV in general, but really likes all the characters except June (still calling a June-Agent Fowler hookup in the future). SO that means that the average TV watcher is probably enjoying the show. Besides, don't knock it until the episodes (that's TWO of them) have aired. Don't quote me on this , but I seem to remember that G1 only had one episode with Orion Pax in it...and he wasn't even the featured character.

Yeah, that's why I said they can't go "more than one episode" with this. The one episode I'm referring to is Part 1. It's this second episode that's deciding to toss out the good storyline for the sake of status quo. >:oP

Why would the kids that watch the show care about a character they've never heard of before? Most of them will be wondering when Optimus will be getting his memory back. I consider it lucky that they are mentioning Orion Pax at all as a nice little homage to the old days.

In that case, why should they care about any character at all? Fresh new TF fans would have never heard of any of these characters, no matter how iconic their names may be, yet they could still care about them upon getting to know them. Same goes for Orion Pax.

And, Orion Pax = Optimus Prime. They're aren't separate characters. Orion's just a younger version of him. Orion's original conversion to Optimus was nothing more than a name change. The reason Optimus is so different now is because he grew more boring and more stiff over time. Why wouldn't the kids care about an Optimus they can relate to? Orion is far more likable than Optimus ever was anyway.

What did you expect? He lost his memory from becoming prime forward not since creation. Would it make any sense to have him roll with the Decepticons longer than it takes him to figure out they are a bunch of sociopaths? He was never a stupid bot, just less powerfull. It only took Skyfire a half episode to figure that out.

Best you could hope for is him returning to the Autobots as a rank and file soldier and have some other character step up as leader, new or otherwise. And lets face it, that's just not going to happen. As long as hes alive he kind of has to be "Prime."

Only question is he weaker now without the Matrix or is he the same like in the episode from G1 after using it to cure the red plague without the memories. I personally think its more a temporary amnesia from the shock of the experience.

No, he lost his memory from before becoming Prime forward.

GiveMeSkyfire wrote:Would it make any sense to have him roll with the Decepticons longer than it takes him to figure out they are a bunch of sociopaths? He was never a stupid bot, just less powerfull. It only took Skyfire a half episode to figure that out.
And that's what I like about him. He isn't stupid. He'd be able to see through Megatron's scheme and side with the Autobots all on his own. He doesn't need his memories to know which side is the side of good.

GiveMeSkyfire wrote:Best you could hope for is him returning to the Autobots as a rank and file soldier and have some other character step up as leader, new or otherwise. And lets face it, that's just not going to happen. As long as hes alive he kinds has to be "Prime."
He could still go back to the Autobots and be put in the seat of leadership without needing to have his memories restored. Sure, they could try to bring his past back, but they don't need to succeed. Some of the best Autobot (or Maximal) leaders of previous series were those who weren't the perfect commanders and were instead just Average Joes thrust into the role of leader, having to grow and develop into becoming the heroes that they were meant to become. I say again that Animated Optimus fit this description so well and he was a great character. He wasn't a Mr. Perfect leader like other Optimuses were, as he too was a growing character who we could watch as he developed throughout the show. The team leader does not need to be the cardboard cutout character that we often see. He can be a regular everyman like the rest of us, only with the job of being in charge.

GiveMeSkyfire wrote:Only question is he weaker now without the Matrix or is he the same like in the episode from G1 after using it to cure the red plague without the memories. I personally think its more a temporary amnesia from the shock of the experience.
He's probably just as strong as he was before, but now he probably feels less confident and more uncertain of himself.

I only caught bits and pieces of Animated TF. IIRC, wasn't he subordinate to Magnus in that series?

Magnus was Supreme Commander in that show, yes, but Optimus was still the leader of his own crew, who were the stars of that show.

BTW, in terms of storytelling and characterization, Animated was far more enjoyable than TF: Prime is. TF: Prime tries WAY too hard to be "teh koolest sho EVAR!", whereas Animated just tried to tell good stories with good characters. And, it succeeded. TF: Prime, however, is already passed its first season and still has not even taken off aside from a select few great episodes out of many other okayish episodes. Rescue Bots needed only TWO EPISODES to be great.

I think you're jumping to conclusions Sabrblade:

Transformers Prime : Orion Pax - Part 2
(First Aired: February 25, 2012)
Jack learns how to restore Optimus' memory.

it says "learns." It doesn't say "Jack does restore." Of course going by the old adage "knowing is half the battle" maybe it'll be cured in ep 3 instead?

I'm hoping for a nice drawn-out, character-building season. I somehow think the devs aren't stupid enough to reverse one of the biggest game changes in TF history.

Then make that "two" episodes that they can't go more than without dropping the unique idea.

It's that they found a solution so soon that gets me. If they were going to find a method to reverse Prime's memory wipe, I wish it would have been a gradual process over time, enabling us and the other characters to get to know Orion better and watch him grow as a character, rather than having him immediately switch back in one or two episodes to the stale bore that he was before.

Mkall wrote:I'm hoping for a nice drawn-out, character-building season. I somehow think the devs aren't stupid enough to reverse one of the biggest game changes in TF history.
About that, do they know that this plot is, as you said, "one of the biggest game changes in TF history"? To them, this could have just been a shock factor to end the first season and kick start the second season so that a different plot to carry out for the rest of season 2. Or-- Wait a sec!

Now that I think about it, this whole Orion Pax plot could just be a red herring for what season 2 will entail. We may only think that Orion Pax's airtime will be big plot of season 2, when really there may be something else in store for us that this is only opening the door for. Now that this thought has dawned upon me, season 2 could be about anything now. :-o

Well, Wheeljack is coming back for season 2, and the Dinobots are "on the radar," which I guess means that if they're coming it won't be a for a while.

It was pretty obvious by the end of "One Shall Rise" that it wouldn't take long for the Autobots and the kids to figure out that Vector Sigma is the solution. At best this will probably be a three to five part episode and then back to the status quo, but it will have lasting effects. It will probably reintroduce Optimus's desire to redeem Megatron and the other Decepticons, rather than just terminating as we saw in "One Shall Fall".

How do you know for sure? How do you know that the Key isn't just a red herring for something more important?

Now that I would be fine with. I liked that Optimus still wanted to believe that there's still good in Megatron. But I hated that, throughout the entirety of season 1, this view of his NEVER showed up. :BANG_HEAD:
