and that's why the show was failing so much as escapist fiction. It doesn't need to be so super realistic that it alienates those who enjoy the fiction as means get away from harshness of reality.MINDVVIPE wrote:Yea, but its not being dark, it's being more realistic given the premise.
Thing is, the beginning needn't be so startling to be good. A humble beginning can go a long long way, whereas this show's beginning was anything but.MINDVVIPE wrote:A war between 2 factions NEEDS to have deaths to allow the story to hold some weight. Sure, they could have killed him off later, and even killed off others (as long as there ARE deaths), but atleast it had some intensity right at the start. The initial death was, as mentioned, proof that anything could happen.
Same characters. Tania described her current portrayal of Miko (current for her, as in by how far she's gotten in the episode recording sessions) as being so different and serious compared to how she was originally.PrymeStriker wrote:But Josh & Tania (VAs for Jack and Miko) said they were recording for Season 3. I don't have an issue with characters dying. It's how their death is handled that matters, and the way they off the much-hyped Cliffjumper like they did felt like a cheap cop-out.MINDVVIPE wrote:I consider a death to set the mood quite well for a war that has been raging on for too long.
Thing is, Obi Wan's death was neither at the beginning nor badly handled. We got to know the guy very well, and the humbleness of the beginning was all with C-3PO and R2D2 up to when they meet Luke. by the time Obi Wan is killed, we're well past the humble beginning.MINDVVIPE wrote:Obi Wan dying set the mood pretty well for the rest of the movie, are you going to tell me episode IV wasn't a humble beginning? And I know its a movie compared to a show, but they both are aiming at young and mature audiences. Perhaps that isn't the best example since his death wasn't so graphic, but well, it was clearly meant to appeal to fans that wanted to see something new.. and I haven't seen a death of an Autobot that brutal before.

With Cliffjumper, they built up all this hype to him being this must-see cool character, yet we don't get to see him for more than five minutes before he's completely wasted.
And then when his corpse gets the Terrorcon treatment and keeps getting maimed again and again until he's finally just blown up, it's like they want us to go, "OKAY! WE GET IT! You're not gonna let us enjoy Cliffjumper in this show! STOP HAMMERING THIS INTO OUR US!"
