Be it Arcee, who quickly went from interesting in the first season, to a predictable loose canon in the second, or Breakdown, who was looking to be a complex Decepticon, maybe even calling in question of his allegiance in the future, and they take him out without even having it tie into him and Bulkheads rivalry.
I can't say I wanted Bulkhead to die, and the character is one of the better ones (I'd hate to be stuck with just Ratchet as the last interesting Autobot) but still, I'd like to see more depth. Get some of these characters out of this rut of storytelling.
I tell ya, with Bulkhead, the writers seem to have written themeselves into a corner.
If they kill him off, it would create a sense of emotional shock among the Autobots and shift the show into a new status quo. BUT, at the same time, it would also just further erase the interesting backstory he and Breakdown shared with their rivalry that show had been building upon ever since Breakdown showed up, and then completely dropped after Breakdown got canned.
And with the other way of keeping him alive, it would keep the possibility of exploring said backstory alive and open, BUT it would also keep the show at its
exact same status quo it's had for the majority of its run and would rob the show of the opportunity of having a dramatic game changer for the Autobots to forward their development as a whole.
Stalemate.
Best they could do is to at least have Bulkhead gain a permanent handicap from this experience so as to have both a shift in the status quo with a shock drama moment for the 'Bots, and them still be able to visit his backstory.

Don't know who that is, but Raf is here to stay.
