It's called a "monitor".
I do not blame Michael Bay for crapping all over a huge part of my childhood. He just directed the scripts that were given to him. I blame Orci, Kurtzman, and Krueger, who seem completely incapable of concocting a story that even halfway makes sense.

He's talking about an HD TV. Computers can be hooked up to TV sets instead of monitors.

I have pretty mixed feelings about the cover of this set. I really love how Megatron looks, but Prime's just so... insecure. Almost fearful. I'd kind of expect him to appear more bold than that.

I'd honestly like to pick up the Blu-ray version of this, but the price point... sheesh. Even at Amazon's $45, I'm afraid I might not be able to bring myself to pay that much. I suppose when you break it down episode by episode, it's not too much, but the difference between the DVD and Blu-ray are staggering for this.

Exactly what sabrblade said.

you expect me to do all this work (wich makes no sense to begin with because the liscensed december version cost a meager $10 bucks) & not have a physical DVD copy in my hand????????

Having this only on my computer is kinda lame-o. What If I wanted to watch this at my girl friends house or in the car when i'm driving those long distance rides. or take on the plane & watch. or anywhere in my house while lying down on the sofa with my girl friend eating snacks.

BACK TO MY PREVIOUS REPLY: This ain't worth doing, spending hours to re-edit the march 2012 season one 5 episodes into a movie is not worth it. because where only talking $10 dollars. no matter how great anyone's editting skills are, their still gonna look inferior to the liscensed version of the TF Prime movie that was released in december 2011. IT'S STILL GONNA LOOK KO & IT'S STILL GONNA BE A KNOCK OFF. Their is no way my printer programs could 100% match the label placed on the liscensed hasbro version that was released in december 2011.

some of us value our time & could be doing far better things than ripping off hasbro via a excessively low amount KO'd $10 DVD prime movie copy.

From my quick calculations doing a KO of this TF Prime movie using the march 2011 season one TF Prime would require the following.

(1) buying the TF Prime season one in march. then putting this into your computer & sitting their for hours using re-edit programs.
(2)using a blank DVD,That could cost anywhere from $2.00 to $.50 cents depending on how big the QUANTITY of blank DVD's you buy & where you buy it & what brand you buy.
(3)using one of your printer labels to place on the blank dvd to make it look somewhat professional. these labels could cost anywhere from a few dollars to a fe quarters depending on how big the quanity pack you bought.
(4)the cost of the average blank DVD cost $1.00,the cost of the average superior looking DVD Label cost $1.50. the cost of me using my printer inks on the high quality setting cost $1.00. so doing all this minus my time equals= $3.50. the liscensed december version cost $9.99. So,i'm only saving $6.50,no Thanks doing this ain't for me. i'd rather buy both the december TF Prime movie & the march TF Prime season one & save myself all these headaches of editting & printing out labels.
(5)The december tf prime movie cost only $10,so doing all this hard work for only $10 is for someone else who isn't myself.
If i'm gonna do this then the thing has to cost at least over $100 not just $10.

Incorrect. First of all, don't assume that licensed copies of anything will be competently made. ADV was probably the worst offender in all of history when it came to not knowing what the hell they were doing; their Andromeda DVDs mixed interlaced with progressive footage seemingly at random, and their first batch of Evangelion DVDs were made by literally running their VHS tapes through a capture card. Secondly, anyone who actually knows what the hell they're doing should be able to produce an MPEG video stream that is visually indistinguishable from a competently encoded DVD, and possibly much better-looking than a poorly encoded one if you know what filters and quantization matrices are.

You're not ripping them off if you buy the rights to watch Darkness Rising in your home. Buying Season 1 accomplishes that.

No, the editing process would take about 2 and a half minutes. The real time-consumers would be installing the requisite software, learning how to use it, ripping the DVDs, creating D2V project files, writing AVIsynth scripts...

Okay, yeah. Point conceded. To be fair, though, this is the same suite of tools that you'll need if you ever decide to make a music video or similar nonsense to put up on Youtube, so it's a solid investment.

just to reply by your reply by each paragraph:

1- Please don't insult all Transformers fans by saying they don't have girl friends nor wives & that's why they spend so much time on TF related message forums. nobody insulted you, don't take the lead & insult others un-provoked.

2- wrong, anytime you make a bootleg copy using a liscensed copy it's considered illegial. the only difference is as follows: (1) If you make a bootleg copy for yourself & have zero plans to make profit off it by selling it,then you can't get sued nor arrested. (2)if you make a certain high amount of bootlegs movies using liscensed dvd movies & sell them for profit, then you can get fined & maybe arrested.

3- so now you saying your edit skills & software are better than the liscensed companies edit skills & software? these companies take months, use the best software, the most highly trained people. they spend huge amounts because their perfectionist. their is no way anyone can compete with these companies.

4- it takes more than 3 minutes to edit & splice something togeter like the TF Prime Movie using the march 2012 season one first 5 episodes. the uploading & downloading takes a over a hour.

5-so if your only gonna spend 3 minutes, how can your version compare & be superior to the liscensed companies? the liscensed company version spent weeks/months to get it looking as top notch & professional as possible.

6- so now were taking a step back in perfection. by saying forget the printed out label to apply to the DVD & USE A SHARPIR MARKER INSTEAD.

7-No thanks, nobody gets my personal info. If i needed this & I don't,I'd spend the $10 & keep my personal info a secret.

8-I'm done debatting this. I'm don't even care about the december 2011 TF Prime movie formated version. I'm buying the march 2011 season one version instead.

I have some pretty good editing skills.. I could work for the show ;)

In all honesty, I don't think its as simple as cutting stuff up and such. They probably have a bunch of different channels that are isolated so that they can overlay it over where a break in the show would normally occur. Add having surround sound to it and it gets that much more complicated.

Tidalwavex, do you have any first-hand experience with digital video editing? Do you even know what a quantization matrix is? No? Then maybe you should listen to someone who has been doing this for the past ten years.

2- wrong, anytime you make a bootleg copy using a liscensed copy it's considered illegial. the only difference is as follows: (1) If you make a bootleg copy for yourself & have zero plans to make profit off it by selling it,then you can't get sued nor arrested. I never said anything about legality. I just said that you wouldn't be ripping them off.

3- so now you saying your edit skills & software are better than the liscensed companies edit skills & software?

Any software that is available to professionals is available to everyone. Of course, you don't really need UBER LEET HAXXOR editing skills or a $1,000 program to cut out the opening and closing credits and possibly the fraction of a second that comes before and after each commercial break.

these companies take months, use the best software, the most highly trained people. they spend huge amounts because their perfectionist. their is no way anyone can compete with these companies.

"Professional" does not mean "competent", much less "perfectionist". I already provided examples of DVDs that, as far as I can tell, were encoded by dyslexic Martians with Down's syndrome.

it takes more than 3 minutes to edit & splice something togeter like the TF Prime Movie using the march 2012 season one first 5 episodes. the uploading & downloading takes a over a hour.

What the hell are you talking about? Uploading and downloading speeds don't have a goddamn thing to do with how long it takes to edit something.

5-so if your only gonna spend 3 minutes, how can your version compare & be superior to the liscensed companies?

Because it only takes 3 minutes to cut out the opening and closing credits and possibly the fraction of a second that comes before and after each commercial break.

To compare: I recently loaded TF '07 into Adobe Premiere Pro and excised approximately 35 minutes of bullshit about "invisible force fields" and "DNA-based computers". It took me less than 35 minutes to do this, and the movie ended up being much, much better as a result. Unfortunately, Premiere crashed while exporting to the Lagarith master file, but the point is that this was actually a much more complex task than splicing a five-part episode together to make a movie, and it was easier than Paris Hilton after a night of heavy drinking.

No thanks, nobody gets my personal info. If i needed this & I don't,I'd spend the $10 & keep my personal info a secret.

Hey man, can you do me a favour and tell me how much actual time is spent showing the bots on screen? I've been curious for a long time as to how much time is on humans compared to the actual Transformers. Thanks in advance. Ya, too much time wasted on military HQ scenes

Please, don't assume,I don't have any eperience in editting skills. I went to college & took courses on video editting. I edit & copy videos all the time on my computer & then transfer them to blank recordable DVD's.

Depending on your computer speed, memory & what you use to access the internet,The uploading & downloading time can be extremly slow or at a decent speed.

in order to get those editting files/movie off the computer & on to a blank recordable DVD. The recording time usually takes the lenght of the movie. i'd assume the TF Prime 5 part episodes are over 20 minutes each. so the time is about 1 hour & 40 minutes waiting for the files on the computer to download on to a blank DVD.

Sure,I have no doubt it can take under 2 minutes to cut out the intro's & outro's,but the quickie end result won't look top notch. people who really care about top quality will spend at least a hour making sure it's perfect & top notch quality.

using a sharpie marker instead of a printed out label to place on my finished recored DVD isn't my style. if i'm gonna do this it's gotta look professional & not sharpie marker style.

-edit-

Nor do I understand how cutting out ads would suddenly make the original quality deteriorate.

Nor do I understand how cutting out ads would suddenly make the original quality deteriorate.

1- For me,my specialty is downloading internet movies or u-tube videos. thus a fast internet connection is needed. I also edit liscensed DVD movies. I then use edit software. then upload it on a blank recordable DVD disk.

2- cutting out ads & splicing scenes in a edit program won't make the original quality deteriorate. I was referring to the meager 2 minute exaggeraged time frame to get this done that cotcoss2012 said it can get done in. I explained that the companies hire professionals that take days/weeks/months to edit this stuff to make it look as superior as possible. Sorry I just don't see a quickie 2 minute edit job looking that great. 2 minutes is only 120 seconds to get the edit job done.

ah see that makes more sense.

You need a faster connection to pirate! Image

Sure,I have no doubt it can take under 2 minutes to cut out the intro's & outro's,but the quickie end result won't look top notch. people who really care about top quality will spend at least a hour making sure it's perfect & top notch quality.

After some thinking after I wrote this reply above. I came to the conclusion that 2 minutes/120 seconds is too short of a time to edit out the intro's & outros's then splice everything together in under 2 minutes & produce a finsished project using edit software.

my whole reason for all my replies was to "question" the 2 minute/120 seconds time to get the edit job done.

Sure, no problem. But are we talking just CGI robot time, or that plus real vehicle time? Because that movie must have at least an hour of General Motors product-placement... and if we're counting vehicle time, then are we counting "Sam and Mikaela talking to each other while Sam is driving Bumblebee" footage or "Mikaela admiring Bumblebee's fuel injectors" footage?

...

Never mind. The answer is that the robots are on-screen for precisely 42 seconds.

My apologies. It was an easy mistake for me to make because what you were saying really made no sense in the context of what we were talking about.

Also, "editing" only has one "t" in it. They probably should have gone over that in class.

Tidalwavex wrote:Depending on your computer speed, memory & what you use to access the internet,The uploading & downloading time can be extremly slow or at a decent speed.

True, but video editing doesn't involve uploading or downloading anything, so I'm not sure why you're bringing that up. Yes, ripping DVD footage and preparing it to be edited using the most mathematically accurate method possible would require some third-party programs, but they're pretty damn small. Smartripper is less than half of a megabyte, AVISynth 2.5.8 is four megabytes, TMPEnc is 1.7 megs, and dgmpegdec is barely a third of a megabyte. This stuff downloads quickly even if you're using dial-up.

Tidalwavex wrote:i'd assume the TF Prime 5 part episodes are over 20 minutes each.

With intro and outro, they should be 22 minutes and 30 seconds.

Tidalwavex wrote:so the time is about 1 hour & 40 minutes waiting for the files on the computer to download on to a blank DVD.

You don't "download" to a DVD. You burn to a DVD. You download from this wonderful thing called the "Internet"...

Tidalwavex wrote:Sure,I have no doubt it can take under 2 minutes to cut out the intro's & outro's,but the quickie end result won't look top notch.

It will for those of us who already have the proper software suite :D

Okay, 2 minutes may have been a hyperbole. The process may, in fact, take as much as seven minutes if I've been drinking heavily.

Tidalwavex wrote:using a sharpie marker instead of a printed out label to place on my finished recored DVD isn't my style. if i'm gonna do this it's gotta look professional & not sharpie marker style.

So you're willing to pay $10 just so the disc has a pretty-looking label.

Well, it's your money, man.

Tidalwavex wrote:1- For me,my specialty is downloading internet movies or u-tube videos. thus a fast internet connection is needed.

Ah. And this has what relevance to a discussion about ripping footage from DVDs...?

Months? Just to cut out the intro and outro sequences? Dude, let me show you what I can do in literally four hours:

Yeah, it's not finished and I need to do something about the aspect ratio changes, but whatever. The bottom line is that if some takes "days/weeks/months" to splice five half-hour episodes of a TV show into a movie, then they spent days/weeks/months playing WoW and about two minutes doing their actual jobs.
I do not blame Michael Bay for crapping all over a huge part of my childhood. He just directed the scripts that were given to him. I blame Orci, Kurtzman, and Krueger, who seem completely incapable of concocting a story that even halfway makes sense.

I find it particularly amusing that you seem to think all we did was bump the episodes together. Unless you have unedited and unmixed audio stems and original shots without the commercial fades to black, you can't reproduce what was created for the feature-length version of Transformers: Prime - Darkness Rising. Oh, you can create an inferior knockoff, but that's exactly what it is.

Thank you, Mr Ward, for giving me another reason to go out and buy the Darkness Rising movie DVD. :APPLAUSE:
