Transformers the animated movie....

Was much anticipated for me. I could not wait to see this. Finally the day arrived and I was taken by my granny to the movies to see it.
Movie starts, a whole plannet of bots are murdered. Next its time for prowl, iron hide, ratchet and brawn to be brutally murdered. Prowl, iron hide and ratchet were some of my favs.
A bit later you see wheel jack and wind charger being drug by arcee. They are utterly destroyed. Then ofcourse you have the terrible death of prime. He turns black, the light leaves his eyes...awful. Next starscream is neutralized, a bit later ultramagnus is blown to bits. (although he is remade)
My question is did all this death, cool as it was kind of mess you up a bit when it happened? I mean not only did they kill off the whole main autobot force, they butchered them! Taking out starscream in much the same way sucked for me too as he was and still is my fav.
Then you had the epp where the autobots find the mosuleum and the zombie prime.
I remember being totally creeped out by that. When he died the second time I cried for a week.
So, did anyone else react to theese events the way I did? Even watching it all now I can see where it would upset a child to destroy all his/her heroes at once in the manor they did it.
Still you have to admit that their deaths have a weird coolness to them. I guess it makes it a abit more realistic or something. I cant put my finger on it.
Thats my question though. I remember being completely mortified when all my favorite bots were murdered. Did anyone else feel the same way? feel completely different? How did you respond to rodimus prime? I hated him due to the fact that optimus had to die in order for him to exist. Thoughts? :D :CON:

I've read the comic before the animated movie.

NOTHING in the movie can be compared to the devastation in the Marvel comic.

Back then I wasn't conscious enough of the concept of death to let any of the Autobots meeting their end phaze me. Plus, the only Autobots I ever really liked were Prime and Jazz. Jazz didn't die but Prime's dying moments did make me feel sad because that was the cue the music was giving me. ;P And to this day I still fall for simple emotional manipulation like that.

I never blamed Hot Rod, because I didn't think Prime was going to shoot Megatron anyway. Who's to say that Megs wouldn't have got the blaster and sneakily blasted Prime anyway, bu~t... I wasn't analyzing the movie to death at that age anyway so it doesn't matter.

Starscream, my second favourite Decepticon, dying, didn't bother me at all. It seemed pretty obvious to me that he deserved it. Since he was a pretty rotten guy after all. As far as I was concerned then, Skywarp didn't die either, he *was* Cyclonus as far as I was concerned. No shot of Bombshell in foreground was ever going to change that. Only now in my later years do I realize the folly of believing any of the characters lived on in their "new bodies".

To this day it remains my favourite movie of all time. I doubt that will ever change either, despite all its numerous and obvious flaws.

I wasn't talking about a specific book, but the comics in general.

But, for your satisfaction:

Yeah, the Marvel comics are tops over the cartoon series, even if there was no actual Rodimus in the US version. I haven't read the UK comics, but I've been planning to.

As for that page, A dead Rodimus strung up between the 2 destroyed World Trade Center buildings. Eerie and ominous at the same time. One of my favorites from the comics.

A little, mostly, me and my brother were outrage that Optimus died. We'd never seen G1 (as it ended by a while before we were born) but we knew Optimus was supposed to be the hero and not...die.
We were pretty glad to hear that ending narration where he said something about Prime coming back. Or I thought it said that, pretty sure it didn't considering...he doesn't.

It does, and so does he... Twice.

The battle is over, but the galaxy spanning adventures of the Transformers will continue, and the greatest Autobot of them all, Optimus Prime, will return...

And I watch the movie plenty of times when I was a kid. and I never heard Optimus say <Arise Rodimus Prime> when hot rod opened the matrix.but when I watch it on Youtube years later it was there!

I believe that narration was only present in the 2nd airing of the season 3 episode "Dark Awakening"

I couldnt have cared less about Optimus, Ironhide Prowl etc. Out of the s1 crew, only the dino's and Jazz were the ones i liked. Wheeljack gutted me a bit, but he wasnt exactly a major player in s2 so thats hardly surprising. But replacing anyone i like were great bots, wreck-gar, kup, hot rod, and major time for blaster and the dino's

However if i was to have known Hot Rod would become a right pain in the ass as Rodimus i'dve probably cried.

Im still not too keen on Ironhide and Prowl, but Optimus and Starscream sadden me a bit.

I believe I have a couple of video tapes and a couple of DVDs that have that narration on the end of the movie, as it freeze-frames when Unicron's head flies round the planet.

Are you outside the US?

Check the dvd/videos to be sure.

I never saw Dark Awakening though, still haven't. I'm pretty sure Tekka said what I meant, the narration that Prime would be back.

Oh he was quite dead. If you blink you will miss it but there a scene right before hot rad, arcee, springer, kup and daniel slide the launcher into place to fight devestator where arcee is dragging the fallen bots out of the way. Among them were wind charger and wheel jack. They were both very dead.

We were pretty glad to hear that ending narration where he said something about Prime coming back. Or I thought it said that, pretty sure it didn't considering...he doesn't.
Well I know that the later run epps of dark awakening added the narration that said "But is prime really dead? Watch for the return of optimus prime soon!"
As I said that was in the later run epps.
I watched the special features on my season three and four transformers dvd the other day and found that I was not the only one deeply hurt by all that. There were lots and lots of wounded children Infact parrents were even writting and calling to complain about primes death.
When the big wigs told the writting crew that people were unhappy, They said "We didnt have the heart to tell him we made an epp where an undead prime rises only to be killed a second time" So it was that they started writting the return of prime. right before it was to be aired they started heavily airing the dark awakening epp with the added narration that said "but is prime really dead etc etc"
Point being you were probably remembering that narration.

I believe I have a couple of video tapes and a couple of DVDs that have that narration on the end of the movie, as it freeze-frames when Unicron's head flies round the planet.
At the end of the movie hu? That would be news to me. It certainly isnt in any of the coppies Ive ever seen, or in the one I own now.
Perhaps they added that narration in the later released coppies of the movie just as they did in dark awakening epp? :???:
