Is a MMO a big-ass game like that new Star Wars game coming out next year? If so, I'm super excited about that! Unless its a PC exclusive, like the Star Wars game. I hate playing on PC and I don't want to spend $ on one of those controllers that go into your computer.

I honestly don't know a single MMO that is played on a console. It will likely be PC exclusive. And that is why PC gaming will never disappear.

If you have a 360 controller, you can use it as a gamepad just by plugging it into your USB port.

But it ain't like all the other games. War for Cybertron serves as the foundation for Hasbro's new "aligned continuity". The Exodus novel expands on its story, and the Prime cartoon continues it. We can't change what is confirmed as fact.

There is no way that the prime cartoon continues the war for cybertron story
there are different character backgrounds like for example compare the prime sound wave with the WFC sound wave they are different
also how does it work when WFC looks more true to the original and Prime looks like a cross between the movie verse and animated
i think we need to double check our sources
One step ahead of ya.

5:20 | IT IS NOT MOVIE VERSE
5:21 | IT IS WAR FOR CYBERTRON continuity. Something happened (whatever) between the end of that game/book, and where Prime picks up. That could be "movie style" events, or not, but we pick up after events on earth, with autobots hiding.

Well, Hasbro confirmed Prime and WfC are in the same continuity. They confirmed that something happened probably resulting in aesthetic change. What more confirmation do you want?

While we're talking about stuff that should be offline that wasn't for some reason: How about some offline co-op? You know, the kind of splitscreen technology that's been used in nearly every multiplayer game since the beginning of time?

Is a MMO a big-ass game like that new Star Wars game coming out next year? If so, I'm super excited about that! Unless its a PC exclusive, like the Star Wars game. I hate playing on PC and I don't want to spend $ on one of those controllers that go into your computer.

I honestly don't know a single MMO that is played on a console. It will likely be PC exclusive. And that is why PC gaming will never disappear.

there's Final Fantasy, and the upcoming DC Universe Online is going to be for PS3 and PC.

Oh and re:X-box 360 controllers plugging into PCs...yes, if they have a cable. I don't know if you can sync the wireless ones up, but it seems unlikely. Haven't got a play and charge kit to test that out.

And yes, MMO is traditionally a big-ass game. Also, generally MMO is short for MMORPG. I assume (hope, too) that's what's meant by the term here, as I'd possibly be willing to maim people for Hasbro if they did it right. However, there's also less likely a possibility of it being some other kind of game where it's classed as MMO. Technically WFC was MMO, although it wasn't quite "massively" except on those 500timesXP weekends.

Actually no. An MMO would feature hundreds if not thousands in a single, persistent world. WfC maxes out at what, 12 people per map? It's multiplayer, but not MMO, no matter how many people are online at once, it doesn't qualify. if it does, then the Halo games are also MMO.

Exactly, they didn't use it in ROTF and WFC, hopefully they'll make it as an option for WFC2. and also, when playing escalation, let's pray they won't give us 2 maps like before, that was just a ripoff, especially offline players, how will they get DLC if they don't have online?

massively multiplayer online...I don't see how Halo, COD, etc don't qualify except by going under the narrowed definition most seem to have accepted because of publicity.

The new Millennium started in 2001, but of course, it was 2000 that everyone went all nuts about. The same applies, IMO. I believe that using the words in the acronym a great many games that are not thought of as MMOs would be eligible to be described as such. However, since the most popular games that describe themselves as MMOs are in fact MMORPGs the masses have accepted the two terms as interchangeable. I tend to just go with it, but when we're dealing with marketing speak, we should always be wary.

edit: of course, it completely slipped my mind that a typical MMO doesn't have an offline component. Halo (or at least Reach, the only Halo I've played) does have an offline mode, even if it only lasts a couple of hours. So there is that.

WfC does not meet ANY definition of MMO and splitting hairs won't fix that. MMOs supports hundreds if not thousands of players in a very large, open, singular environment. WfC can have up to 12 people (I think) in a single, small environment. It's online multiplayer, but there's nothing massive about it.

And no, a few thousand people being online does not give an online multiplayer game that "Massive" qualifier. There's a lot more to it than a bunch of 6-on-6 matches going on at once.

Shadowman is correct. WFC is far from an MMO. World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online are MMOs.

bleh, lets just agree to disagree about definitions. Fallout is a FPS, but it's got loads of roleplay elements and you could play it in third-person view if you like. Like I say, the "types" of games are just marketing speak anyway, like film genres.

Instead, lets be excited by more WFC goodness and hopefully some word on a TF MMO (again, preferably a MMORPG)

Fallout 3 was an RPG with FPS or TPS gameplay, much like the Elder Scrolls series. It's even in the title of the first game "A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game."

craggy wrote:Like I say, the "types" of games are just marketing speak anyway, like film genres.

The "types" of games are the genre, which can be combined. Action-adventure RPGs, first-person shooter puzzle games, whatever GTA counts as. It's not marketing speak, it's how you play the game.

Nope. Didn't even know that was possible. But I perfer to play Fallout in 3rd person because I just suck at FPS's. And I like that you can zoom in close or out depending on where you want the camera.

What I've been told is that it's a form of motion sickness, but I can't take Dramamine so I'm SOL. And I also suck at them. The only one I've ever been able to play through completely was COD 4: Modern Warfare, and that was by only playing 10-20 minutes at a time. Even the original Wolfenstein 3D made me sick.
