TRU Masterpiece Grimlock QC Issues

Got my MP Grimlock today. When I transformed him into robot mode his hips were floppy as hell. He couldn't hold any pose besides just standing there. I have seen pictures of him in all kinds of great action poses and mine couldn't hold any. Has anyone else had this problem?

I expect that i may have to superglue fix a deluxe $11 fig with loose joints, but I wont stand for that with a $60 figure. He is getting returned. I did the online preorder. TRU is refunding me, paying for my shipping, and has offered to let me buy him again for the same price of 59.99 and 10% off for my inconvenience. We will see if they uphold that promise come September when he restocks.

ouch that sucks!

my takara has zero issues. been tempted to pick up a TRU grimmy if i see him just because he is such a great figure.....and because im pissed mine didnt come with that awesome crown!

I sure hope more of the TRU grims do not suffer from QC issues like this

i will warn you and others to be careful when folding back in his hips during transformation. i was careless with my first attempt back to dino mode and scraped/broke off the plastic molding on his right red hip piece...had to touch up with some red testors

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now, and I have no problem with it at all. Hopefully it's all cleared up for you man, good luck.

Just open mine...No problems at all as far as I'm concern with. Also, after going to Target, TRU, and Wal-mart, there was only one Drift out of all those places...I picked him up while I had the chance. I can't believe Drift is hard to fine...must be really popular Transformer...

I think I know what you're talking about. My figure is also kind of loose at the hips, but he can hold plenty of poses. I think it has to do with the fact that the chest piece doesn't really lock into place anywhere and doesn't feel secure. However, I watched several reviews on Youtube, and it seems to be an issue present with the Takara version as well. As far as loose joints, mine are kind of loose also, but like I said, he can get into some pretty decent poses. I don't mind at all, though. I'm keeping Grimlock in T-Rex mode anyway.

I got my Toys r us mp Grimlock a few days ago. As far as his hips in robot mode are concerned I think they're just fine. He is top heavy. MP Optimus top heavy too, how far can you articulate him leg and hip wise? I believe MP Grimlock holds up better in carrying weight on his legs.

One of the keys to balancing him I think is that his upper body swivels with his crotch (Oh get your mind out of the gutter) independent of his hips. You can have the right hip swiveled one way, left hip swiveled another and crotch with upper body in yet another independent of each other in the horizontal plane.

As far as lateral hip movement. I wouldn't have him doing splits or standing on one leg so I think he has fair amount balance there provided you adjust the knees the leg swivel and don't go too extreme with the weight distribution to any one side.

MP Grimlock can get a decent range of poses. I don't expect my Masterpiece transformers to dance. Do you? ;)

 love that video.

My MP Grimlock had basically one pose - standing. If you pulled legs apart a little for a slightly wider stance, he would automatically do the splits and fall over. If i just held him and tried to move his leg up laterally, it would just droop back to a standing pose. Forget any knee bent stances since the hip swivel was super loose too. I went online an looked at pics of how others had him posed. Mine would not even come close any of those besides just standing there.

I am seriously fed up with Hasbro QC. I remember several years ago when they released classics Devastator - i returned him 3 times because the combiner connectors wouldn't hold a connection. Eventually found a decent one and kept it. I'm surprised Hasbro doesn't loose a lot money over that.

Dammit, a $60 TF should at least be able to look like he's dancing.

That is seriously bad. I am so sorry. :-(

I know how much you were looking forward to your MP Grimlock. I went OCD waiting for him myself. I hope they replace your Grimlock soon and honor their offer.

I picked mine up today and his legs are a little loose. No worse than the Takara one I have.

Finally got mine today. His knee joints are very tight, but only his right horizontal hip is loose, and only at more extreme angles.

So considering what I have read in this topic so far I'm on the fence trying to make a choice. Which version should I go for? I really don't wanna have to get both like I'm guessing a lot of fans have. Do they both come with the same accessories? And do they both do the flip of the eyes feature? My enquiring mind gots to know!! :CON:

Initially Toys r us online had it listed for $59.99. For a short time they bumped it up to $64.99. Then they raised it to $69.99.

Short version! Takara = sword, blaster, apron, bow tie, drinks, mind transfer helmet, sharp teeth and claws.
Hasbro = sword, blaster, crown, very slightly dulled teeth and claws. Oh, and apparently the Hasbro version has a few more paint apps on his legs and arms.

so i was messing around with him today, and the light up feature doesn't work anymore. Is anyone else having this problem? The batteries are new so i don't think that could be it.

Hmmm indeed!! What of the feature on the eyes, do they all flip for color change? And any issues for anyone who bought King Grimlock or non-King?

Mine didn't work out of package, which scared me. I checked the batteries, they were in the right way, put them back, hit the button on accident and it lit up. Might just need to shift them back into place or something.

So, i opened up the batteries and tinkered with them awhile ago, and they still don't work. :( This sucks, my first masterpiece and one of the cooler features doesn't work.

Maybe you got bad batteries or they somehow drained while in package. You might just have to replace them.

Regarding the battery issue, I believe the arm has to be in a certain position or transformed a certain way. I noticed when I pulled mine out of the box that the feature stopped working in mid-transformation. I got a little nervous, as well. Once he was in full robot mode, the light started working again. Make sure he is fully transformed one way or the other and then play with the shoulder position. Also, as far as it being one of the cooler features, it would be the light was actually bright. But it looks dim even in a dark room. Good thought, poor execution.

Regarding the flimsy hips, I believe mine too are a bit loose. I'm not at all confident that I could get him to hold more than a couple poses with the legs. But the couple poses that he will hold, he looks pretty money. Slightly disappointed in the legs/hips and his overall size. He looks goofy standing next to and being dwarfed by Prime.

A good figure overall but of the 3 MPs that I own, he ranks 3rd behind Prime and Skywarp.

Mine was missing the screw that holds the lighted arm to him. It stays on pretty good when he just stands there, but if I go to transform him or pose him it falls right off. I am trying to find a screw to fix it with but have found no where that stocks screws that small. If I see my local Toys R Us us has him in stock before I can find a screw he is getting returned.

WOW! hearing all these issues with Mp Grimmy makes me wanna fork out the money for Takara version and be done with it! Thats the last thing i need is to pay $70 bones for this guy and he has loose hips and missing screws that holds him together!! Hasbro is soooo f#%king cheap with it comes to their QC dept: right idea, but poorly poorly executed on their part... Plus i've only seen MP Grimmy twice, but didn't have enough funds to grab him, so ill have to wait until September to pick him up and it makes me wonder will MP Grimlock being sitting on the shelves like Perceptor and the Insecticons 8 months from now? Just curious...
