It's time for your Pre-SDCC edition of the Seibertron.com Twincast/Podcast. Join Host Scotty P, Seibertron, and our guest for the evening, pop-up wizard Matthew Reinhart, as we take a look at everything Transformers - from the rare and unreleased B-side EP of Generation 2 to SDCC exclusives to comics and more!

Episode 97 "The B-Side EP" is available directly and in our RSS Feed and should appear on iTunes and Stitcher Radio within 24 to 48 hours of when this news post is visible.

Editor's note: This show was recorded on July 16th and was delayed during Seibertron.com's coverage of the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. Sorry for the long delay between episodes, loyal listeners!

(6:45)
Insanity on eBay! Some of the rarest Transformers out there have shown up for auction - G2 Menasor and 6 unreleased Generation 2 Go-Bots. Where did these come from? More intriguingly, where could they be going? Tune in to hear our thoughts on this rare "B-Side" of collecting.

Like the Ark of the Covenant, only way nerdier

(30:37)
We then shift gears ahead 20 years to this year's SDCC Exclusives, specifically the Dinobots playset. Matthew Reinhart, the designer of the pop-up playset of Mt. St. Hillary is here on the show with us to discuss the process of how this came to be and tells us about some really cool easter eggs to look out for! You don't want to miss this.

Image
"Can we call it a playset? Because that's what I'm doing with it."

(45:31)
The Age of Extinction toy train keeps on rollin' with the apparent reveal of two new Platinum Edition Sets. Is the cast excited for more "collector oriented" sets, or are we ready for some new molds?

Image
Yep, don't know what those are, better shadow them.

(58:04)
What's in a page? Plenty, if you ask us. We take a look at the upcoming Official Guide for Masterpiece Transformers and debate the value of books like this in today's internet age.

Pulp Non-Fiction

(1:09:18)
Age of Extinction has now come and been in theaters for awhile. We talk about the Box Office take, success overseas, and pick up some scraps of opinions still left on the table. Join us for this post-mortem look at the latest feature film in the Transformers saga.

Give me your money or I will kill you.

(1:29:27)
Fear not lovers of the IDW universe, comic talk makes its long overdue return to the Twincast! We catch up on the post-Dark Cybertron issues of More Than Meets The Eye and Robots in Disguise. Listen in to our mid-story arc predictions and reactions to the action thus far.

Image
This is our secret handshake too

We wrap up the show with a discussion on unofficial Transformers conventions (1:55:25), some Listener Questions (2:06:19), and some Bragging Rights (Spoiler Warning: Club's TFSS 2.0 mystery figure revealed during bragging rights) (2:21:26).

Image
At last!

Thanks everyone for listening and we appreciate the continued support! Don't forget, the show only gets better if you tell us how. Drop us a review on iTunes or Stitcher and be sure to tell us what you love, what you hate, and what you want to hear!

Not on the show to give your take? Probably not, so don't forget to keep the discussion going on the Seibertron.com Energon Pub Forums by simply replying to this post!

Got a question for the Twincast? We take all of them, we just don't take them all seriously! Leave a question in the Ask the Twincast thread and, if it makes the cut, it may get read and answered on the show.

Great to hear an extra guest on here! And it sounded like you all had fun together. :D

Soundwave's role, showing up more in RID #31 is very very nice, and one of the best to come out of the run, I'd agree, and I've said so in the reviews too. I am very interested in seeing what happens next for him, given his newly developing background.

I think with the build-up to Alpha Trion now over, we'll get some really good stuff from Barber again. I really wanted to like #31, but it felt slower than its predecessors.

As for Megatron in MTMTE: I have no idea. (Though I remember reading through #31 on my break, and I do agree that the editing of the issue was a bit shaky in parts. 'Ravege' was the worst offender in my case.)

I LOVE THE POINT YOU MADE ABOUT SUPPORTING LOCAL COMIC STORES! :D :D :D

(And the Creative Roundup shout out too! :D )

Bilge!

Hey Scotty ... to add to our conversation from this Podcast, I added two new books to my collection.

The first book is "Fight! Super robot life Transformers First Complete Series (2004) ISBN: 4861760364" that I picked up at a semi-reasonable price from Amazon. It's kind of like an art book where it has dedicated pages for each of the characters 1984 through 1987. The page generally has the robot mode and the alternate mode along with some mid-transformation shots which you don't generally see to often. The biggest reason I wanted this book was because of the G1 Arcee prototype picture in the book. It's my new "I really want that" figure that I think has finally surpassed G1 Unicron.

The 2nd book I got was a replacement for a book that was destroyed in one of my various floods a few years back. It's the Transformers Generation book, I think the original Transformers book from Million Publishing which became the current ongoing series that we all know and love. I think this was the book that had the coupon for the black G1 Starscream or the Ghost Starscream (can't remember offhand, well at least the original version of it). I had the original version which was destroyed in my flood but had been wanting the nicer "deluxe" version which came out a few years later that includes an additional 18 pages of absolutely amazing stuff ... most sketches and drawings of Transformers that never came to be. What interested me the most were the concept drawings for the unproduced Action Masters like Metroplex, Perceptor, Ultra Magnus, Predaking, etc. If this book wasn't already the best G1 and G2 book hands down, the "deluxe" edition is truly "more than meets the eye". If there is ONE book every Transformers fan should own, it's this book.

There's also a Chinese (KO?) version of the book, minus the "deluxe" 18 pages, but it's still pretty good. The Chinese version usually sells for about $35.

Hey Ryan, do you have this one? I acquired a copy off of ebay a couple months back and it's pretty awesome (too bad I can't read it, of course as I don't speak/read Japanese :P).

Great show as usual guys. It was cool to have a new (return) voice on the show. My only critique is however this show was mixed was weird. I get why some would like the separation of voices to separate channels, I just find it a bit off-putting. Also, I personally listen while I work with one earpiece in (so I can still hear when someone needs me). I get that I am not typical, but it did take a second to figure out why I couldn't hear half the convo. Again, I understand it's my personal preference.

Thank you the show! It's always entertaining and informative!

The mixing is my fault on this one, but it's the best I could do with my limited knowledge on that side of things. The alternative was to have all of my background noise included due to a weird glitch (including clicks, keys, dog barking, and burping) along with myself and Matthew being twice as loud as Ryan!

Jon 3.0 does it most of the time and it's a lot better. Sorry about that, we're hoping to not have to do that again!

I have a question. This is Twincast/Podcast Episode #97. What will happen for the Twincast/Podcast #100? Will there be any Seibertron goodies? :D

It just needs to be recorded in mono instead of Stereo, ScottyP. I think that should take care of the problems. You can actually resave the edited file in mono format to resolve the problem.

I'll remember that. Give a guy like me the option of "Stereo" and "Mono" and I'm like "HELL YEAH STEREO my cassettes were even in that of course the podcast should be" #-o

And damn, you made me want to buy a lot of books in this thread. So much cool stuff.

Really,

for episode 100, if you could get Skyce or Pyrostrada or Ravage, the scourge of the bayou, back as a guest,
sorry counterpunch, I know you were there from the start as well.

I can already imagine what that'll be like. Everyone is eating cookies and drinking milk and tea with their daughters and their dolls as everyone talks about how awesome the show is and toys are and other little girly stuff. Also you want the listeners to talk about their daughter's reactions and likes about My Little Pony and a bunch of other little girly stuff.

We're working on planning some cool stuff for Episode 100 that we think our listeners will really enjoy, and we'll probably do something that's been asked for quite a bit that we just hadn't gotten around to recently. That's as specific as I can get right now because honestly, not much is set in stone for it yet, just noncommittal plans.

That said, just to go ahead and disappoint (now instead of later) anyone hoping to hear some of the other original cast members, we do not have any plans for that.

It's scary that the prototype for an unreleased G1 figure looks way more show accurate (IMO at least) than nearly all of the actual G1 figures that did see a release (aside from perhaps Gnaw, the Shartkicon):

I think it might be nice to bring back some guests from previous episodes, perhaps those who are Real American Heroes?

Not weird at all, I don't listen to the podcast at work, but I do plenty of listening with only one ear in.
