Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Postby Duke of Luns » Tue Jul 26, 2011 6:21 am

Hey guys, it's a few days old, but it's been announced that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is coming out this November!

Here's the link to all the new stuff: http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/07/20/ultimate-marvel-vs-capcom-3-video/

The skinny on the new content:

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is getting beefed up big time this November. Entitled Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the new release will sport eight new stages, a spectator mode, balance tweaks and 12 new playable characters including Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye, Iron Fist, Nova and Rocket Raccoon, plus six new Capcom characters. See the full roster and trailer and gameplay videos after the cut.

Joystiq lays out the roster from both sides of the videogame conflict:

Capcom:
Strider
Firebrand
Vergil
Frank West
Phoenix Wright
Nemesis

Marvel:
Ghost Rider
Dr Strange
Nova
Rocket Raccoon
Hawkeye
Iron Fist

For me personally, I'm really excited about the Marvel side. I don't know much about Nova or Rocket Raccoon, but I think they'll be great additions to the roster. Hawkeye's new special(revealed in the video) is one of the most awesome specials I've seen, and is reason enough alone to pick him as a character. Ghost Rider will be awesome just because, and hopefully they'll eventually DLC Blackheart so a team of them can be made. Iron Fist I'm not a huge fan of, but I can see him being a very Ryu-ish character, and I like Ryu so I'll like him. Dr. Strange is just plain awesome, and I can't wait to see what kind of moves he has.

The Capcom side though...meh. I guess I'm not all that excited about them is because I've never played Phoenix Wright, Devil May Cry, Strider, and Frank West is not visually appealing to me. I didn't particularly care for him in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom either. Firebrand looks cool, and even though I've never played any of his games I'll gladly use him. Last but not least Nemesis(never played RE 3 in depth either..hmm maybe that's why I'm not too thrilled) does look cool, and it'll be nice to have another hulking character on the roster.

Also, Pre-order bonuses!!!

I hope these are made available as purchasable DLC, because I want Elvis MODOK.

And now for the bad news....

The game will retail at a discount(I surmrise $40) price. So I'm going to have to buy it again. Crap.

However, considering the new content it won't be all bad, so I'm game.

Thoughts?

I loved Marvel vs Capcom 2 back in the days. Haven't bought Marvel vs Capcom 3 but glad I didn't now cause of this new version. My main reason to get this version is Dr. Strange who is one of my favorite Marvel characters. And like you I have Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Frank West was kinda lame in that game. And as a question was there ever a Transformer in a fighting game?

In response to your first comment, yes it was a good idea to wait. Part of me wishes I had waited, but there's just enough new content that I'll be happy(though a tad begrudged) to buy another copy. While I haven't played as much of 3 as 2, I do find it to be a little more enjoyable because it has a simpler control scheme, and the random all selection makes for some interesting matchups against my buddy online.

As for a Transforming in a fighting game, yes there was! I'm not sure if you mean appearing in or a fighting game in general, but luckily both bases are covered:

The most common game to find would be Beast Wars: Transmetals for the PS1: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers:_Beast_Wars_Transmetals_%28PS%29 I played the game years and years ago, and sadly I found the product catalog option of the game(which had the never released in the U.S. Transmetal Ravage) more entertaining than the actual game. However, it was better than the totally lame other Beast Wars game on the PS1. It also had actual voice actors from the show and brand new CG cinemas(which feature TM2 Black Arachnia, Transmetal Rhinox and Transmetal Waspinator). There's a let's play on Youtube(haven't watched it, don't know of the entertainment quality) that goes through the story mode and shows some cinemas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvwv3GsM2XQ

There was also an N64 version, which I have no personal experience with: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers:_Beast_Wars_Transmetals_%28N64%29 It has different characters than the PS1 game though.

Japan got two other games:

Beast Wars for the Gameboy Color: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Duel_Fight_Transformers_Beast_Wars:_Beast_Warriors%27_Strongest_Decisive_Battle This game does have a rare appearance from Star Upper.

And last but not least, a game I wish had but understand why it didn't come over, Dreamix TV World Fighters for the PS2 and Gamecube: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/DreamMix_TV_World_Fighters It's supposed to be like Smash Bros., but I've never looked too far into it, and being released only in Japan I've never played it.

Yeah, I am too. Maybe there'll be future DLC that has him or maybe one of the more notable
Robot Masters, or Vile.

I would actually really like to see Bass in there! Or maybe Protoman EXE!

I'm not sure if the endings had anything to do with which characters were chosen, but Iron Fist was in Ryu's ending.

One addition I'd love them to make(but they probably won't) is if they added at least one more panel to the endings. As it is they're pretty small, and there's only so much you can do with three panels. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom had three very large pictures for each of their endings, and the Japanese version of Tatsu vs. Capcom had full animated endings(which are on youtube, but not subbed).

But hey, if they are going somewhat by who was in the endings, I want Man-Thing!!!!!! And Darkhawk. Mostly Darkhawk. But sadly he wasn't in any endings. But Man-Thing was, so....

Man-Thing and Megaman(X or original) for DLC.

Also, I guess Capcom is considering making DLC depending on Ultimate's sales. They're a business, and I'm not going to knock them for that logic.

Weapon: Double-Barreled, Armor-Piercing Particle Beam Cann...
Geez, what does Capcom have against Megaman? The explanation that the developer couldn't think of any moves is bull because he already has an established move-set from the previous games, just like all of the returning characters. Not to mention that, even excluding the gameboy and other handheld games, he's used over one hundred weapons to base a move-set around. Even X has used more weapons than Zero, even if you don't factor in his armors and basically double the ideas with the charged weapon attacks.

I caved in after watching the EVO 2011 championship ( MvC3 ) online and bought MvC3 used. Still learning moves and combos with my favorite characters. Right now it's Chun-Li leading the charge with Iron Man and Phoenix backing up. Only picked Phoenix for her Dark Phoenix power which I know is controversial but since Viscant the champ won with her, I figured she probably better be on my team.

I have Chun-Li cause I liked her nimbleness and always played her in Street Fighter 2 in arcades when everyone else was using Ryu and Ken.

Rather than start a new thread...

Capcom recently had a fan pole with suggestions for new characters:

http://nunoxei.com/darkhawkzone/2011/10/23/darkhawk-downloadable-character-for-capcom-vs-marvel-please/

Image

Darkhawk came in at #22. According to the site, Capcom is still listening. I don't have a twitter, but for those who do, vote Darkhawk for DLC!!!!!

Games out, I got it. Haven't dug too much into yet, but sadly "Heroes vs. Heralds" is not on the disc. Dang.

However, on the "Days of the Future Past" stage there's a poster in the vein of "Uncanney X-Men #141". Very clever, and...

Mega Man is alive :D . I'm hoping it's a wink wink nudge nudge from Capcom.

Capcom needs to include the Punisher as a DLC character, and maybe Nick Fury.

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

It was great to see a Punisher cameo in Frank West's ending, but it was disappointing.

However, Capcom gets high, HIGH thumbs-up from me for including Death's Head in a cameo in Strider's ending! Way to work in those TF references! (Kinda.)
