Power Rangers

I suppose this thread could be just about PR, seeing it shares one thing in common w/TF's, that being the combining technology for Megazords & Gestalts. Did anyone happen to watch the Premiere of the newest series, Operation Overdrive (Adapted from the Japanese 30th Anniversary series Gougou Sentai Boukenger) It wasn't the best premiere I had seen in PR history, but it was better than others I've seen. I still don't think any series holds a candle to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Zyuranger in Japan). Just post your thoughts if you're still into it....................

Well its banned in NZ, so awhile ago i turned to Youtube to find PR episodes, but i found out bout Super Sentai and now I'm a Sentai convert!

I've seen only a few new Sentai series (Magiranger, Boukenger, Dekaranger, and I've started watching Abaranger).

I have watched a few of these Sentai's respective PR seasons, and i find the PR version not as good, mainly since they dim it down a shade for kids.

I agree with your statement of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; they never overplayed nor underplayed their premise and the value of all of the characters.

As far as Power Rangers shows go, if the series in question is good enough I will watch it right away, if not then I'll wait a bit until it is replayed in its own repeated time slot or on P. R. Generations.

As far as this new series goes, the "realism" of the interactions of the characters was well done and the overall concept works ok, but it seemed to miss something. It does appear to have good potential and I might give it a few more episodes before I give it an actual judgment.

One thing that I did and still does bug me is that the speed zord didn't belong to the yellow ranger yet she is the member of the team that originally was recruited for being a racecar driver.

I don't watch Power Rangers, but apparently I own a lot of mid 80s Power Ranger toys.

I stopped watching PW after the Ninja series. Although I recently watched some classic clips on Youtube. I loved the original. I miss Alpha 5. Think I'll dig out the movie (on VHS no less! My how times change so quickly) and watch it at some point.

I watched Power Rangers up to the space rangers series then I lost interests when they were split into different continuities.

Yeah thats the stupid thing, well that and Bettleborgs and Masked Rider were both aired here, they are about the same in the way of violence, not to mention we had DragonBall Z out here too!

Wikipedia wrote:In 1994, the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) upheld several complaints from members of the public about the level of violence in the show. The main concern of those complainants was that the show portrayed violence as the primary means of resolving conflict, and that this was influencing children to behave more violently more frequently. Television New Zealand cancelled the second season of the show immediately following the BSA decision. New Zealand is the only country in the world where this show has been prematurely withdrawn from public broadcast to date.

Yup, the Dragonzord was quite awesome:

Who doesn't love a mechanical dragon that shoots missiles from it's fingertips? And I agree, after the In Soace season, I lost interest yet kept watching it. Most of the post MMPR era series were okay, but would never be the same as the first, the best, the original. I think the overdid it w/evil rangers, & put too much dependance on the zords, plus there were way too many zords. I liked it when there were usually 7 that formed the Ultrazord when needed & then annihilated the monster. I've also begun to watch Zyuranger on Youtube & it's not bad at all. Saw the season finale & thought it was pretty good. What's great about the Sentai is that it can be more violent & look more menacing. *cough* Lokar/Dai Satan *cough*

I did watch some of the PR shows, most noticeably MMPR, Turbo, Zeo, Lightspeed Rescue and SPD

I did read on the internet that since PR has always been made by Toei, some of the staff who worked on transformers, designed most of the zords. That would explain why some of the later Megazords and Zords resembled the likes of Trypticon, Predaking, the Dinobots and Defensor

To clarify: Toei makes the Super Sentai shows Power Rangers is based on, Bandai Japan makes the toys. Companies do look at eachother from time to time though.

Ah yes, the Dragonzord. Always wanted it when I was a kid, and I distinctly remember one time my parents said they would buy it for me, I looked around several different stores, and couldn't find it :( . Having resemblence to Mecha-Godzilla and green being my favorite color also contributed as to why it was one of my favorite Zords in the show.

I also lost interest around Power Rangers in Space. Think I saw the first couple episodes or so, and just kinda forgot about it. I would also have been about 12 or 13 when it came out, so that's probably also why I lost interest. I still have a nastalgia for the original series though, but I just can't get into the newer stuff.

Now the Japanese Sentai stuff might be something I'd get into, cause I feel that things are always better in there original format.

I (for some reason) have seen every form of PR since MMPR except for PR: Mystic Force. The best is MMPR

Eh. I always loved the original Megazord, where the formation sequence was actually good, as were all Pre-CGI Megazord formations.

*recalls being lucky to find a Dragonzord at a KB during season 3 and how was even luckier to get the original Megazord during year 1*

If it's any compensaiton dude, I never could get Titanus.

Anywho. I liked PR until the end of ZEO. The I lost interest. Right when Billy and Jason left for good. The team I liked best (the orignals) was completely gone. Yes Tommy was there but he wasn't of the original five. I recall the early years, trying to find all those toys and they didn't become commonplace until Christmas of 94 (when season 2 was airing).

I do miss those days but looking at them in PRG, it just doesn't feel the same anymore.
