I think this is really crazy, but I was actually part of a study for psychology today and we had two people work as waiters in a restaurant saying the exact same things and acting the same and we found the more attractive waiters got 35% more in tips

My tips are generally based on how much money I have more than anything else. Service and quality of the meal come next. Compensating for my friends being annoying comes after that. Appearence counts for nothing as far as how I tip.

I'm exactly the same. I make an effort to tip to the value of at least 10%. Exceptional service will often warrant more.

Attractive people are almost always more confident, well groomed, and happy.

So there are probably a lot of unaccounted for variables in the study. (btw, I really hate these kinds of studies that do not account for the necessary factors and arrive at causation instead of the more appropriate correlation)

yeah it's not quite so customary over here either, though i'm quite a heavy tipper at the indian resturant i frequent, i tried adding it on my card once, and the waiter came back asking if i'd made a mistake, apparently he thought was a bit much, since then i've stuck to just unloading all my change on them.

Normally I double what the the tax is for the tip and it always ends up more than 15%..
Now if the service is really bad I will tip less.

Yeah we do. You and I though will never be posh enough to grace such restaurants and motels.

My sister use to get them all the time when she was doing room service on Dunk Island. And trust me, you and I will never be able to afford a night there. :P

I was gonna say the same before I read CP's little post here. There are far more factors than just "being attractive" that come into play on an attractive person making more in tips.

However, I usually base my tips on how fast the bastards get my food to me.

I've worked in restaraunts before and there are things Iuse to determine the tip my server gets.
Looks are almost never a determining factor in the type
of tip I give.

I always give at least 10%. More if the waiter/ress does a good job and is overall friendly. Then of course theres accounting for a friend making an ass of himself and giving them 50% just so they don't kick us out. Hasn't happened for a while though.

I don't care what they look like they all get the same amount from me

I will admit sometimes if I find a waitress extremely attractive I tend to tip more. Mainly my tip is based on quality of service, friendliness and not annoying me by constantly asking me if everything is ok. I have worked in food service in some capacity all my life. If the food isn't that great I still tip well. It is not the fault of the server. If it is real busy and either they make a mistake on my order or can't get to me if I need something i don't punish the server. Mostly they are doing the best they can and rely on tips to make a living.

Around here the standard is 15-20% or more it seems.

Anyway, I'd like to think that I tip the same as you guys, but if you studied my tipping patterns empirically, it would probably turn out that I tip hotties 35% more. :?

Not something that is (normally anyways) done here, its sometimes a company policy not to accept tips (it was where I worked anyways), its an alien concept here so if I ever go to the USA there will be a lot of pissed off waiters :P

Nope. Poor service is poor service. I have the same attitude toward women. I don't care how nice her ass is, a bitch is still a bitch, and I'll still find her unattractive.

My first rule is I have to be treated good to get more than a $2.00 tip.I always leave at least $2.00 unless the food and service suck in which case I dash. It seems alot of times when I go into a restauraunt the wait staff sees a Teenager and automatically assumes I am not going to tip or tip poorly. I generally tip 20%-50% depending on the service. However if the waitress is hot I normally leave a ten spot with my card. Yes. I have a business card despite being 18. lol

I am just wondering to fun attractive customers get better service, and is it equal accross genders?

I am pretty good looking (or so i am told) and apparently i also flirt like hell (again just what i am told, not my opinion)-and i tend to get fantastic service (particualrly from girls) pretty much everywhere i go.
