I asked Ryan about it last month.

Yep ... the Star Wars fandom will be getting the Seibertron.com style of sites as well. I liked Luke Vader ... it easily conveys that the domain is about Star Wars and is a fairly short and easy to remember domain name. All that one could hope for when purchasing domains.

We have a network now????

Ryan, are these going to be kept as separate entities, or will we each share one account across the network, as it looked when our seibs log-ins got us into the GICobra forums previously (even thou nothing was there.)

Our accounts worked on gicobra.com was because I copied the database for that site to use. I have changed my mind about how I want to approach this project. I want these new sites to be very modular and less custom than Seibertron is. When you think about all of these sites from a programming stand point, they're all pretty much the same as far as the structure goes (hence why Wikipedia works for an infinite amount of topics) ... it's just the content that is different. Figuring out how to make all of these different content types work together is the programming challenge that I'm looking forward to.

The problem with Seibertron is that there is so much legacy code and data that the structure isn't really compatible with other content types. When I first laid out the structure for Seibertron, I had no intention of ever using the code for other fansites so I built a lot of parts to this site to be very specific to Transformers.

I haven't decided if I want the users to be shared between sites or not. Part of me thinks it'd be great if everyone had accounts across this network but then another part of me thinks it'd be better to have everyone sign up just for the sites they want to be part of.

I'm open to suggestions and ideas from the community about ways that you think this could be best implemented as well as what you guys would expect from a network of fansites.

My personal opinion of what I would rather see, is the network see up with homepages for each all directing to a single unified Energon Pub Network fourms. So we would have a one-stop Fandom fourm. However I see a huge downside to that as the "transfandom" community would suffer as the other properties and the fans they may pull in would dilute the focus. And on that note, I would recommend NOT doing that.

But if we could have it so all the connected forums did share a combined used data-base, and it was possible to mirror some aspects on all of them, then you could start the other forums with a built-in user base already in place.

However with the Go-bot and Battle Beast site, Those should just direct to the current forums.

I fully agree with this. It lets the current users explore while bringing more people into the forums we all know and love. also means there wont be as many more forums that need moderators and admins, which would make keeping an eye on things a little easier. otherwise you have to moderate 6 general discussion forums, 6 fan art forums 6 toy sightings forums, but theoretically any new forums could exist as sub forums on here. separate toy sightings into gijoe, starwars, Tf, ect.

Each site would have its own unique forums. I'm building these sites with the assumption that one fandom doesn't want to talk to the other fandom. Each site will have its own unique staff. There might be some crossover between staff members but that will be because of their own choosing and because they rose to the occasion.

:( that means we gotta make 6 accounts if we wanna be in on all the action.

And people were worried about name sniping in HMW. hopefully people won't try to do the same on the sister sites.

Unique forums doesn't meant that the accounts can't be shared. I'm thinking of figuring out how to get the database to be shared but have certain forums show up on certain sites.

Trust me, no one's going for 'Editor' on the MyPonyLand branch of the Seibertron.com Network. :P

I mean, I think the aim of the Network is to get a vast amount of new fan populace. If we're spreading the Seibertron population through different brands, then it's not going to work.

I think this will take a lot of work, but once we've gotten it established it will end up being quite beautiful.

But this is totally life changing... I'm a big fan of Battle Beasts and I think it will be great for Planet Beast to act as a 'resource' - It's something that really isn't on the internet. The only thing close is this;

Really, because others have used this name in other places. I know what you are saying but it does happen, and some people are more concerned by it that I am, especially if within the same network of sites. How would you feel if some smart ass signed up as Blurrz on a sister site?

Is planetbeast.com going to have the Battle Beast Gambling from HMW? That was sooo addicting.

Just wondering Ryan, any timeline that you have for the launching of the new sites, or expanding beyond the homepages for now?

What would be more likely to happen is for Blurrz to sign up for myponyland.com under an assumed name.

Cuteseyponyboy, for example.

What I want to ask now is beyond Transformers, what other fandoms are you guys into? Is Transformers your top thing or is actually something else?

any chance the twilight site is a joke? it doesn't really mesh with the others. Now a M.A.S.K. site would be a lot more interesting. At least to me.

Then again Robotix, Turtles, Exo-Squad, or inhumaniods would be more interesting to me that a book series that already has plenty of current fan reaction.
