The Game of Thrones Discussion Thread

I don't know whether to be confused, disheartened or disgusted that this doesn't exist after three seasons of spectacular television. Probably the best series on at the moment, if ever. You've got it all: political intrigue, unnecessary violence, sex and some of the best/horrendous surprises in TV history.

In this thread discuss all things GOT up to and including:

- Which house you support and why.

- Events in previous series - which scenes/characters are your favourites?

- Predictions and then later episode discussions on the upcoming series four.

- Events in the novels. Though do be sure to spoiler-proof your posts if what you're discussing takes place after what has already been shown in the TV series.

Also, an obvious warning to those who are not up to date:

I'm surprised nobody has posted anything on here, but I'm really enjoying the show, probably one of the better ones out there. Season 4 looks great, I hope House Stark does survive though.

I watched the entire series just to see that Red Wedding scene everyone in on the internet was crying about. It wasn't nearly as violent as I would have liked it to be. I could have done so much worse.

Robb :'(

I don't think it was so much the violence that was upsetting, more like that Robb was getting very close to avenging Ned and his house then he gets betrayed by his own banner-man, and I think everyone gets upset when a Stark dies.

But I heard that in the books Catelyn is revived by R'hollor so it's not so bad in the books.

House Lannister all the way. I don't know what I'd do without a regular dose of Tyrion's wit.

I think it would have been cooler is John Snow were to avenge his father, seeing as though he was basically looked down upon by everyone else.

Also, taking The Black sounds awesome as hell. I'd definitely do it.

I would like to see Jon do it as well but seeing as Jon will likely become the new lord commander of the Nights Watch I'd doubt it'll happen, I've always liked Jon, but my favourite character will always be Ned, I think you can tell that Ned actually did care for Jon almost as much as he did for his other children but couldn't show it too much because Cat didn't like him. It seems like every major house except for the Starks look down on the Nights Watch because they don't believe they really defend against anything.

Tyrion seems to be the only Lannister I like, I love Tyrion I think he's and amazing character but everyone else is just a bunch of a-holes.

Am I the only person ever who actually likes Geoffrey? The only thing I didn't agree with him on is that whole thing with Ned. I'd have let him live. Also all that stuff having to do with Sanza or however the hell you spell her name. I'd have just shot her with that crossbow. 8)

I hate Joffery, I hoped that his head would be put on a spike at the end of season 3. If he would've just let Ned live he would've avoided the war of 5 Kings, which basically pushed the show forward.

Tyrion and Tywin both. Even Jaime is growing on me. When Tywin first made his appearance in season 2 and dressed down the torturing idiots at Harrenhal it was gold. That actor pulls the character off brilliantly.

I normally like villains, but I can't stand Joffrey. He has the same effect on me as the Governor from Walking Dead. I just can't stand him. As Tyrion said, they've had idiot kings and vicious kings, but they have never been cursed with a vicious idiot until this boy got a hold of the throne. He can't die soon enough, even though I don't know when or if that will be (just starting in on the books).

Jaime is growing on me a bit but after the Red Wedding I think Tywin is an okay character, I like how he would do anything in his power to further his House's interest. I think I might hate Joffery more and more everyday, I think in the books Joffery dies at his wedding I could be off on that though.

I think Jaime's interactions with Brienne of Tarth are what has helped me see a new dimension to the character.

What's throwing me off right now is Margaery Tyrell. Sansa obviously had no idea what she was getting into with Joffrey. Just a young girl going through the paces of high-society betrothal junk and infatuation.

Margaery seems like she has a smarter head on her shoulders in terms of dealing with Joffrey's psychopathy. I'm wondering if she's a tinge crazy too, but just better at masking it. Just one of the many factors that keeps this series interesting.

Margery is definitely a strange character, Censei despises her because she can get around his arrogance better then she can.

Cersei has that spoiled, head cheerleader vibe. Dating the captain of the football team and feeling entitled to everything. And then she just gets outmaneuvered by everyone...Margaery, Varys, Baelish, Tyrion, her father, her son, lol.

The list goes on and on.

She needs to wisen up or she's going to find her head on a spike before long.

I hope her head gets put on a spike, or maybe Stannis uses her as a sacrifice to R'hllor, either one would work.

I'm definitely curious to see what new stuff we get about Melisandre, Thoros of Myr and that R'hllor faith in general.

I'm reading the books, and once I finish one I watch the corresponding season.
Currently I'm in the third book and just learned how you can kill the white walkers/ Others.

While so far I prefer the books, I do have to give the show one thing, it does seem to (ironically) handle a lot of the female characters a lot better than the books do.
Which is hilarious considering that the show basically invented a whole new whore character just to be able to spend more time in the brothels.

I don't support any of the houses, since I don't care for any of them. Heck, I don't even care to memorize the majority of the characters. The only character I actually really care for is Tyrion, and Dani is pretty cool, oh OK, John is cool too. And well Aryia is basically the Punisher. Oh and Varys, Varys is cool.

What? Freezing your arse off, never love, abandoning everyone you care for, just to then die pointlessly in the snow sounds awesome to you?

I'm told that the 3rd Season only covers about 50% of book 3, so they can make more seasons, but I'm just starting the first book myself.

Good. So by the time I finish books 4 and 5 in a couple of months, I'll be way ahead of the game rather than way behind. I'll be spoiled for what happens in the show, but at least I'll have that richer understanding that you usually only get from reading any book that has a tv or film counterpart.

From what I heard the coming seasons will move even further away from the books and do their own thing, since Book 6 and 7 aren't finished yet (I believe this series will never be completed).
And the show has already altered a lot from the books, especially season 2, which is the most recent one I've seen.
Sure they have to leave a few things out but they've changed so much stuff that could have worked, and Martin has already stated that some of the changes the show has made make stuff that comes in books 6 and 7 impossible.

So it really doesn't matter weather or not you manage to finish books 4 and 5 before the show catches up.

And I have heard much of the opposite, so I guess we shall see. Writer's and producers' prerogatives change on whims, as do speculations of the internet.

It will matter to me, if no one else. I'll be glad to have the books under my belt sooner rather than later.

I've spent all day finishing the second book before marathoning through season 2 with my friends, a good deal was left out, while most of what was left was altered.
Season 1, however, was pretty close to the book, much closer than the season 2 at least.

But I gotta talk, I'm power reading through book 3 for the upcoming season 3 marathon :P

I've just started reading the first book, it seems to go in much more detail about pretty much everything especially Catelyns hate toward Jon, I'm really enjoying it so far.

I've never seen this show, but as soon as I'm done with The Walking Dead, I'm gonna start watching. Is it really gonna make me want to choose between the 2 Houses? Or should I just prepare for all-around carnage?

Also, in most cases, the books are better than the movies/shows made of them, which is why I didn't want to read the books 1st. Is this a good idea?
