Need Suggestions

I'm about to undergo a project using the newly released Combiner Wars Legends Shockwave, and would like to give him a new head. My conundrum is I don't know whose head would fit in his neck and still be able to transform properly. Anyone have any suggestions who might make a good candidate? The ball his head is on is about 5mm, as demonstrated below.

I don't have that figure yet, so I don't know how much clearance the head needs in gun mode. But I find that sometimes it's easier to alter the head directly instead of replacing it. That way you already have an idea of how much clearance you need, and how much of your sculpting medium you can get away with using.

Unless, of course, you plan on using the head for something else.

If what I had in mind didn't require having an actual face, I would totally leave it as it is. Unfortunately, that's not the case. :(

I guess my thought (which I didn't really write out, but was in the back of my head the whole time) was that Legends-size figures have less facial detail anyway, so the couple that I've sculpted by hand have had very little detail (usually a rather simple helmet and either a visor, mouthplate, or both), which usually gets etched in with a hobby knife. If that's not what you want to do, you can probably take whichever head you want and, if it doesn't have the right joint, use a stock joint from HLJ or anyone else who sells "modeling supplies."

Well, the Megatron/Dreadwing/Krok figure also has a head on a similarly sized ball joint. Check that out if you've got one. Although the actual head may be a little bit; I also do not have Shockwave, so I don't know how big his head actually is.

I'd contact one of our resident Shapeways maestros and see if they can create something to specification- GlauG is very good at headsculpts so he'd be a good bet.
