They kind of go hand in hand, don't they?

Not really.

Is the "Blood, the Dark Warrior" Kit competing with MMC's Feral Cons or Hexatron?

Is the "Savant" kit competing with Maketoys' Nova Prime, or G1 Highbrow?

The only product of theirs you can say is directly competing is "Darksol" with FP's Mindwipe, and that's more a coincidence than anything else. It's an exception, not a rule.
Didn't they do a Whirl head for movieverse Whirl? I have one, but I guess I don't remember who it came from. That's now competing with the Generations Whirl, though a couple years later. Bad example, maybe. Carry on. I think I'll go back to drinking whatever Kool Aid is making me not make sense... :HEADHURTS:

(On a side note, my Blood came incomplete so the Turret doesn't mount on the figure in either mode. The release was so long after the original announcement that I couldn't find my Bludgeon right away, which meant I really couldn't go back to BBTS or Headrobots. After putting everything but the turret on, I really didn't see much benefit over the nice Hasbro Tank Bludgeon. This has led me to shying away from Headrobots.)

These still aren't out? Damn, sometimes it seems as if nothing happened in my absence.

It’s not that 3rd party companies (or Hasbro) are really “competing” with Headrobots. Whats happening is Headerobots is hitting singles and 3rd party companies and Hasbro are hitting home runs.

What would you rather have ?
Drone Upgrade kit or the upcoming voyager Generations Whirl ?
Darksol upgrade kit or Fansproject Mindwipe ?
Dark Scorponok upgrade kit for $150 or Titan Class Metroplex for $119 ?

On Headrobots going out of business, I heard it from a fellow collector by word of mouth. I don’t know if he read it, heard it or what? I never asked.

It doesn't happen often, but on occasion, I completely agree with your take, X. This is one of those occasions! Image

Indeed, Rated X hit it spot-on. It's not that Headrobots' products are bad... it's just that the other guys are putting out stuff that's so much better.

I'll have to disagree with X here -

Though I will certainly take Generations Whirl over the Drone kit for HFTD Tomahawk, I am all about their Butcher & Blood kits. Where they hit that niche, they hit it hard. I think both of those kits are home runs.

And, as I've stated (and I may very well be the ONLY one who thinks this), I would much rather have Darksol than FP Mindwipe. Call me crazy, but I love that ROTF Mindwipe mold, and I think Headrobots can bring out its full potential. Plus, it's a large-ish voyager, which is a welcome thing in a Classics collection primarily comprised of deluxe figures. Hopefully, Springer/Sandstorm, Blitzwing, and the upcoming Whirl will change that slightly.

I really like the RotF Mindwipe mold too. It's...just...not Mindwipe. (I did just watch the Japanese Trilogy recently, so maybe that's coloring my opinion.)

I agree with Megatronus.

Really, I have no connection to Mindwipe. Wile FP made a great toy, I wonder if it's really for me. But Headrobots' much cheaper offering is really no contest. I'd STILL love to get it. And the Dark Scorpinok prototype.

I don't know if it's fair to say they haven't hit a "home run." People LOVED their Hardhead. I love the RotF voyager Bludgeon kit. I'd probably love their Dark Scorpinok kit too; personally I still appreciate kits that add greatly to a figure. The real problem here is that Headrobots doesn't have speed. Like, at all. People have moved on from prototypes shown forever ago.

Agree with one of the other posters that while I am very keen to get hold of the Banzaitron upgrade, I'm not too fussed by the rest. Headrobots are their own worst enemy. I bought the Whirl upgrade because there was nothing else. Generations Whirl has ended pretty much any interest in that upgrade. When they announced these Headmasters upgrades, they had a clear run. Now they have dithered and 3rd parties have gazumped them. they only have themselves to blame for procrastinating!

Cartoon accuracy IS important. I know he's not so accurate to the actual Headmaster, but he'll definitely serve as a Classics figure if upgraded.

Unfortunately, yup.

At this point, it seems highly unlikely.

Well cr@p. I was still kind of hopeful for these things even after seeing FansProject and Toyworld's somewhat lackluster attempts at Headmasters, cuz I already had these molds sitting out on my classics shelves in waiting and wasn't really intent to completely replacing them.

Does this mean Headrobots themselves are finished? I'm assuming that they have given up, for whatever reason.

I was looking forward to Darksol and even bought ROTF Mindwipe in anticipation (sorry if I have the wrong movie version reference). But after seeing FanProjects Mindwipe - I am heading in that direction and giving up on Headrobots.

I was actually looking forward to getting Darksol to serve as my Senator Ratbat, for what little sense that may make. :P

Bummer, I'd much rather have a head upgrade than a 3rd party figure. Plus, I bought mindwipe and sky hammer for these.

Mindwipe is kind of a like him or don't figure, but Sky Hammer is a pretty damn cool figure on his own.

I had Mindwipe displayed next to my ROTF Bludgeon/Universe Onslaught awaiting the upgrade. Even without it, I think he's an awesome figure.

No doubt, Mindwipe is super cool, but I sold him off once because he didn't make sense in my extremely G1/Classicverseish focused collection. I have a handful of movie toys, but since they didn't appear in the movies, and I'm guessing the comic books as well, neither of them have a place in my collection.
