1 of 5 is pretty daunting. i dont think ill get all 5... i happen to like his original scorpion/construction thingy mode and dont need him to turn into an "actual" scorpion. ill get the neck piece for sure, maybe whatever pack that gets those shoulder guns, but thats probably it.

Even though i'm not getting this set , imo five sets is taking the piss . HR took what ? a two year break and this is how they make a welcome return?

i can't help but compare this to the evasion mode prime upgrade and how Fking awesome it looks for the same price as HR set 1 and it makes a completley new toy/character , were as this is small simple add-on parts.

I don't see were the money is in this set tbh by the end of 5 sets . Sure the forearms and pincers look great and the neck piece helps a whole lot and i get that's the selling pint for most but to put scorpion legs and whatever else in 4 other sets is a waist .

They should have came back with a bang had a full set ready for 45-50

Yea - they really should have announced this a month (2 max) before it drops.

At the very least, they could have surprised us with the Ronin kit for HFTD Banzaitron. Judging from all the pics that were circulating before HR's radio silence, the thing looked just about done. You know, something small to wet our beaks and get us excited for their return.

They're a small operation and all, so I get it. But this whole thing could have been handled better.

Actually looking at it again, this is not the same as the one they wanted to do for Energon Scorponoc and Cybertron Dark Scorponok, it's a fully new tooling, which is kind of a waste.

Are we even sure this really is Headrobots and not someone who just took the name to have some street creed? I mean it's kinda weird that they suddenly pop up with a set for a version of a mold they already spent about a year on making something bad ass for, and not using anything from that set. Plus it's super expensive, it's even more expensive than the limited resin sets they made.

Nobody has the new neck mount in hand to know that yet.

I have Botcon Scorponok, Dark Scorponok, and Botcon Doublepunch and heres what I do know:

* The funpub neck mount appears to fit into the mold in the same fashion as the original neck piece.

* The figure has plenty of screws leading me to believe you can disassemble the figure and swap neck mounts with ease.

* Rather than having to paint your new purple neck mount to match the original figure, you might want to wait it out. Headrobots is known for milking their molds with repaints and slight retools as they did with Hardhead/Butcher/Stronghold/Centurion.

*This upgrade kit was announced over two years ago for Dark Scorponok on a fan vote. The fans didn't like the $150 price so it didn't go into production. The original prototype pictures showed a more articulated Headmaster. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the sets 2-5 comes with this headmaster. I also wouldn't be surprised if it is retooled with a Black Zarak head down the line. Or seeing how it already existed, a G1 Scorponok head would actually be the retool. This could be repainted in the original figures colors which would be an easy sell to budget oriented collectors. Why wouldn't they ?

Don't need any 3rd party add on kits for this toy. Think it's fine as is. HasTak doing the construction vehicle-scorpion hybrid thing, I thought was cool. Don't need the original shovel hands replaced with beast claws, As I liked that most on the original toy.

Think this is clearly not a G-1 Update toy. So spending hundeds of 3rd party dollars to make this toy more G-1, Is something I don't want to do. Rather take that hundred or two and just put it towards a PE or MT Scorponok 3rd party toy.

One problem is that everybody respectfully has their own opinion of what the true definition of an "update" is.

For me personally, I consider an "update" to be an articulated figure that's not a brick. (when talking about G1 characters that have a vintage toy available)

When you get to newer lines like the Beast Wars and the Unicron Trilogy that the figures already had articulation, then an "update" would involve streamlining the appearance with less kibble and a more complex transformation.

In the case of this Headrobots set, I would consider it to be an "update to an update" such as many other add on sets for Hasbro figures. I know there are some collectors that don't consider something an "update" unless it has a "neo" alt mode. They often argue that Mania King, Soundmixer, and the Unique Toys Predaking are not "updates" because their alt modes are the same as G1. I respectfully disagree with them. I always felt "neo" alt modes were meant to boost sales to younger kids by giving them something their age group can relate to. (Hasbro) I always felt 3rd party figures didn't need "neo" alt modes because they are clearly priced for adult collectors that grew up in the 80's with G1, not todays kids. Just my personal opinion. I know others like the "neo" stuff because they think it's cool.

Oh wow, so it is the old set just minus the Headmaster, feet, but with a new neck.

Wasn't this supposed to come with more than two moveable claws with new arm mounts and a new neck mount for a flusher sitting head?

HR is going make other pieces available depending on how well this bundle sells. I would've loved to get the full package at the $44.99 they were asking here, but I guess not.

Edit - go look at the first post on this thread for details.

*sigh* there was a time when I really, really wanted this set. Now I want Black Zarak colours on either PE's or MT's effort.

I changed my mind and just bought it and shipped my loot today. Yesterdays visit to the strip club made me realize its only money. ;)

Felisaber can wait until Volar comes in. It's not like Predaking is missing an arm anymore.

Don't like the option of spending hundreds in 3rd party replacements parts. For a HasTak TF figure that I think is outdated and tiny.

Rather buy a 3rd party new toy for Scorponok similar to what ToyWorld did for Fort Max. That is Leader class and cost around $114.

Hoping Toyworld Does a Scorponok city bot in scale with their Fort Max toy.

I'm really trying to figure out where your prices come from. They're almost as arbitrary as your height measurements.

i dunno why im coming to his aid (cause i was confused too and was ready to jump) BUT i think what he means is a new 3P scorponok relative to the size of the energon/botcon scorpies, and assuming the price would be in the 115 range.

I get that he's making a price assumption based on projected size... but $114? That's oddly specific...
