That is breathtaking! The mold AND the digibash. I haven't brought into Warbotron yet, but I may have to remedy that soon.

Agreed. I've been eye balling it and am totally impressed. That's a Whirl i'd buy.

Let's see if I can get these two side by side. I'll post this in both the Warbotron thread and the MakeToys thread

ImageImage

Well, it looks like they will probably not go side by side unless I do it as one file. Maybe if I get some time later...

I'm guessing that these will be scramble city? It looks like Warbotron has the traditional configuration (according to TFWiki) and animation pictures I found on Goggle Images. Yet, many toy images have the arms swapped. Interesting. Image

Well, I think size is going to be what matters for me on this guy. I am probably still going with MakeToys, but Warbotron does offer me the opportunity to spread out the cost over several months to maybe a year. I like both aesthetically, so that's not a factor for me at all. Decisions, decisions...

Maketoys killed it on this one. No contest.

I'm liking them both actually. MakeToys looks much sleeker and more "neo" (and I do love neo stuff) but I do like the very 80s look the Warbo version has. By 80s I don't necessarily mean "G1-accurate" I mean the overall design aesthetics are very evocative of 80s robots, with the simple body shapes and lots of flat surfaces coupled with masses of greebles, panel lines and tech detail (especially vents and grilles).

Personally I'd be happy with either of them.

Considering how happy i am so far with there combaticons and the look of this digibash , WB has totally swayed me .

Not that i dislike MT now it's still a beautiful piece no doubt .

But the need for more voyager :BOT: is a playing a big part in this as well . so yeah Warbotron it is .

i wonder if they regret picking the scale they did, since its only real negative thing people have to mention about warbotron.

...how is the size a negative? He's HUGE! He looks, to put it mildly, awesome.

It is possible to be too big. Amirightoramiright? *BigGiantWink*

*whistles*

In all seriousness, there are two reasons I'd have liked to see this smaller. One, is price. It's be nice to knock $50 or more off the price to be smaller (though there is no guarantee of $10 per figure or more of savings with smaller sizes.) Two, it doesn't fit well in my collection. I don't have much shelf space left, this won't fit in my glass case, and it would easily tower over all of my other combiners. Devastator and Predaking would be okay doing this. Computron? No so much, in my opinion.

Because many collectors (myself included) are turned off by the size.

I have a few combiners already, all roughly in scale with one another (Hercules, M3, Feral Rex, MBC/FOC Bruticus... a couple of these are pending completion, obviously). Warbotron does not fit into that scheme. They've limited themselves to people who don't care for scale (or have multiple displays/shelves so scale isn't an issue), or are new to the 3rd Party combiner market. That's potentially damaging when the market is so crowded to begin with.

EDIT: Aggie beat me too it!!

It's true in my case as well.

With FP and Maketoys putting out combiners in similar scale, they are able to put out a lot more figures. Having a more complete set of combiners makes them an attractive option.

If these guys went with the "TFC Scale" and had not chosen to go bigger, I would have both this and their Bruticus on order. Both are exactly to my taste aesthetically.

It would probably have helped sell more figures for both them AND TFC.
(And if these guys are actually TFC, as some people have suggested, then it is a really stupid ass decision having 2 large scales.)

Meh, if you say so. I've always thought the Technobots could really be any size as their vehicle modes are made up/Cybertronian, and I don't subscribe to the cartoon scale (For one because I haven't watched up that far, and for another because the scale was horrendously inconsistent, especially with the combiners). I will confess to just loving absolutely huge robots (one of the reasons I'm thinking of going with TFC over MakeToys for my Devastator is because of Hercules's sheer size) so I am rather biased in that regard.

Certainly my opinion on 3rd party toys (especially combiners) is there is no right or wrong answer. Personally I like to see lots of options and different versions of characters for the simple reason that it gives choice. Take Hercules/Giant for example- some people prefer the more G1-accurate colours and overall styling on Giant, whilst others prefer Hercules's brighter colours, Unicron Trilogy-style aesthetics and design, and his sheer size. I'm in the Hercules camp myself, but I don't think Giant shouldn't exist- in fact I really hope MakeToys does a re-release of Giant in his original yellow scheme but with the updated engineering of the green version. Same with thia. I like MakeToys's more futuristic, Tronesque designs, but I also like this version's 80s styling (I'm going to wait for reviews before I settle on which version I want).

Of course I am highly unusual in that I happily put Unicron Trilogy figures next to Movie figures, which in turn stand alongside Animated figures, and so on...(I don't really have any permanent display, I'm constantly reposing and fiddling with my TFs).

I'm wondering what if Warbotron had came out first and already had MT/FP catalogue done to date (Superion to Defensor) in warbotron scale , and it was now MT/FP who was new on the scene with there smaller combiners .

I wonder what the reaction would be .
