With all the recent Dino news I had completly forgot about these, £50 for the whole set!

And they look pretty badass when painted correctly.

Think I'll pick these up and save a few quid!

I have the set. Cheap, but not bad at all! I ended up with a Triceratops with two right horns, but I think it adds character. I'm seriously considering touching up the figures to make a Dinoking, which I think I've mentioned ad nauseum in this thread, so sorry.

Looking through the thread on TFW, nothing but great reviews, and it looks like it would take very little modding to get these up to scratch, could you post a photo of Slag and his dodgy horns?

I saw a review of these (Baltmatrix I believe) and they...didn't look so good. The designs themselves are pretty cool, and I actually like the colours. However, there are 2 things putting me off this:

1: The quality control. The review I saw seemed to indicate they were kinda low quality, with loose joints and dodgy connections across the board. Grimlock suffered a lot from his hips, which wouldn't compress. And the combined form barely held together.

2: So...Much...Kibble...Seriously, I've voiced my complaints about lazy use of partsforming on 3P combiners before, but this is something else. Not only are there loads and loads of extra parts you have to add to combine them (ankle/wrist connectors, hands, feet etc) and the weapons are all partsforming messes, but these parts have nowhere to go in the individual robot forms. At least with FP's Bruticus the parts all formed weapons and stuff for the Combaticons, and most combiners find something to do with the combiner kibble. This just sets them off to the side with nothing to do. They could have made the combiner kibble turn into weapons, or have it turn into a vehicle/dino drone, and the wrist/ankle connectors could have been stowed away in the individual robots if they'd tried.

I can't blame TFC because these were actually made for kids, and they weren't in charge of production. But still...I'll pass.

I'd like to see them do a proper Dinobot combiner in future though. They're doing proper Protectobots in spite of doing their Star Cats counterparts after all, so there's hope. TFC are the kings of combiners, so I expect they'll do it well.

I saw that review also, however I also saw BensCollectables review and he spoke very highly of the them, to be honest I'm not arsed about the combiner feature as I will be displaying these with FoC Grimlock and diching the T Rex figure, also with regards to tightnes/loosness of joints also not an issue as I'll be taking them apart and giving them a G1 repaint, so I can adress any joint problems along the way.

After much deliberating I finally ordered this guy off Sirtoys, can't wait for him to arrive, now all I need to do is pick up some gold silver and red paint.

Getting confused: is there only one size to this figure set? Because I keep seeing the "Protectobots" as two sizes, but only 1 offering for the Dinos.

Yes, there is only the one size mold for the dinosaur combiner. It has large Deluxe limbs and an Ultra sized torso.

Sorry about the lack of a pic. I am remodeling my kitchen and my house is a mess as the Kitchen is everywhere, as is my son's room as he has the attic access. It looks like you went ahead. I will take the pic as soon as I can but I'd be curious if you see the same thing with the Triceratops horns.

Thanks! I keep getting tempted but was hoping not to get the "wrong" one.

No worries mate, I know how it is. I'll let you know if I have a similar problem. Would you be interested in a swap if it come to it?

FYI - I should mention there are two different COLORS of the dinosaur combiners.

*chuckle* Absolutely! If you have two lefts and I have two rights, I can mail one to ya. :D

But, if I'm a betting man, I bet we have all the same side, if you have the same issue I do...

Well, what do you know! Mine are the opposite direction.

Image

Looks like we got a perfect switch. :D I'll PM you my address. I'm in the states, and I get the feeling that you are across a large body of water, but it is worth the postage for me.

BTW, what do you think of the guy? I have some joint issues that I need to strengthen with some superglue or nail polish, particularly with the combiner feet. And he could use a larger Dinoking head. (I might try my luck there for a G1 Dinoking head on Ebay.) But for the cost of normal 3P prices, and even the costs of a deluxe limb, voyager torso from Hasbro, I think this guy is very decent.

:KREMZEEK: Get in! I'll PM you my address, and yes I'm in the UK but more than happy to ship to the States, thanks a lot man really appreciate it. Really pleased, with the figures, I also have a few joint issues but am planning to da G1 repaint on them so I can figure out most of the issues during spray painting. Basically I've got a set of Dinobots for the same price as one of the major 3rd party contenders. Thanks again mate.

I was wondering a couple of things about these guys.

Can anyone who has both versions tell if they were made in the same moulds to the same standard - I've not heard any complaints about the repaint - but I am curious to know.

Also I was hearing many moons ago that someone on Shapeways was going to make him a combiner helmet did it ever come out ?

I think he needs it.
