I'll be getting this unless Hasbro gets to Gears first, as hinted by their Kup instruction manual

Even if Hasbro does a Gears on the Kup body, this will be the official Gears of my collection.

I mad3e the decision a while back that unless the 3rd party figure is vastly superior, I'll use the Hasbro figure. Gears is, IMO, not that big a character for me.

A Kup body with a Gears head...

As far as Im concerned the I-Gear Gears is now "official". :BOT:

What Gears would you be using then? The silver movie one or the G1 one? Because it sounds like you're saying Hasbro or none.

The art looks fantastic. I can only hope that it translates into plastic as well as the others. I've been looking forward to a Classics-verse Gears since 2006. Had this little guy as a kid and he's one of my favorites. He may be disgruntled, but I'm happy as a clam to see this getting made! Another missed opportunity by Hasbro. I really don't understand why they can't deliver these guys to us. My five year old prefers watching G1 to Prime all the time (I won't let him watch the movies yet...just too much). Hasbro is missing the boat, me thinks.

I'm saying that IF the predictions are accurate that we'll be seeing a Gears head on Kup's body as hinted in the instruction manual, I'll probably end up getting that one, pending final renders of each.

Otherwise, I'm all for iGear.

I'm not going to hold my breath for ANY of the alternate heads shown in the instructions. Plus I don't really know how good a Gears made from Kup would be. So iGear wins this round.

Then I'd get Cogz because Hasbro has a habit of not following through with those alternate heads. Every Generations figure was supposed to have one and they put out maybe a third of them. We still do't even have confirmation on Scourge, Kup, Lugnut, Laser OP, Warpath, or a bunch of other ones that our assumptions are even right! That "Gears" head always looked more Brawn to me.

BotCon is using laser OPs second head for Ultra Magnus, actually most of the heads used by BotCon this year are the alt-heads from the instructions.

Kups head is being used as the Swerve repaint in the Asia exclusive Movie Trilogy line.
The others however are still to be used.

I figure we'll know what'll happen in a couple weeks at Botcon. My decision will probably be made there.

I really don't buy much 3rd party, but being that Gears (especially with a true G1 alt mode) is about the least likely TF to be released by Hasbro, I may have to bite.

I could have sworn that Brian Savage came out and said that all of the new heads for Botcon were made separately for them and they were not the ones that had appeared in the directions saying that they would never get "first run" on heads like that or something. Also, I thought that all the Asian market exclusives were just that: exclusive to Asia. We will never see them over here. So no Swerve head Kup for us!

IF he did say that he's telling lies, the heads for Magnus and Treadshot look exactly like the heads in the instructions.

Plus the Asian only release would still count as a Hasbro release and usage by Hasbro.

Man I hope importing that won't be insane....

But FunPub has to pay extra for their original heads, hence to markup for the repaints. Why would Hasbro do them in house at the time of original design for free and do the line art for the instructions up to a year and a half early? It doesn't make sense, at least, not when compared to how it was done every or year. For Hasbro to be doing the heads at the time of original molding means a very hands on stance by them and a very well coordinated plan by FunPub. The same company that people seem to assume is a gaggle of idiots who don't lock their doors at night. For the first time ever, Hasbro would own the molds to Botcon exclusive heads and FunPub would just be a distributor that comes up with the fiction. Hasbro would, in essence, be their own external Collectors Club. It just doesn't work.

EDIT: To clarify, FunPub owns the Botcon exclusive parts. That's why Thrust didn't have the more accurate (and better) VTOL wings and why a Generations Jazz wasn't just a non-SG version of the C Smokescreen mold with the Jazz head and why the two Primal repaints of Leobreaker didn't use the Razorclaw head and so forth. Hasbro could perfectly legally release Vector Prime as Alpha Trion but if they did, it'd have a new head. If Hasbro designed (re: owns) the upcoming Botcon heads, it's a drastic shift for both FunPub and Hasbro towards FP becoming unnecessary.

SG Magnus' head sure looks like the one shown in the instructions. So I guess Brian Savage simply has it wrong.

With Hasbro's slow pacing on Generations I can well imagine that they had molds made for alternate heads for future mass releases of those molds and simply not using them. It wouldn't be the first time we've had a toy cancelled on us.

I know how FunPub exclusives work.
It still doesn't change the fact that SG Ultra Magnus and SG Thredshot use the alternate heads of their respective molds. Heads that where designed by Hasbro and therefore can be reused in future toys. You might have noticed how most of the RTS and Generations figures have been designed to work for more than just one character and it's the same with these.
RTS Jazz's heas was apparently shown at BotCon 2010 and looks like the head used for Botcon 2012 SG Treadshot.

Gen 2 Prime's alt head was revealed in the instructions:
http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/ ... ime/20625/

Another way of telling that these two heads weren't deigned by FunPub, they're better looking and more advanced (being made from multiple pieces with sharper detail) than FunPub's usual head molds.

Hasbro didn't design the heads for BotCon, BotCon is just using them for their exclusives, basically SG UM and SG Tred are straight up repaints of existing molds.

I wont be worrying about what Hasbro may or may not do unless they release a Gears that looks EXACTLY like this render does.....if they don't, and in the next couple of months then I will be getting Cogz to go with the other 4 Minis/Not-Minis.

So....sale to IGear I guess.
