The Other Voices

For every Megatron, exists a Straxus, Triumvirate, Thunderwing etc
For every Prime, Emirate Xaaron, Star Sabre, Dai Atlas et al

There are a lot of cool/popular/underutilised characters within Transformers canon. That haven't made the leap from the page to screen. So why not do some dream voice casting for your favourites?

My pick:

Image
Thunderwing
To date, the Mega-Pretender hasn't been onscreen. I think when it comes to his intimidating physicality and ruthless nature, only one voice comes to mind:

Image
Tim Curry

For an example of how this would sound, this:

Does it have to be only living actors? Because I'd love to see Tony Jay as Straxus.

Unfortunately Tim Curry is retired now due to health reasons, but any contribution hw could have made to Transformers would have been awesome. Although Dr. Morocco was obviously designed to be a villain for a very young audience, he played the role spot on.

Nolan North (another TF alum) would be awesome as Ginrai, a young brash human, but piloting the body of a Prime

Kevin Michael Richardson (I guess I have a real affinity for TF Prime actors) would be great as Star Saber.

Indeed. Very sad stuff, really. Even if the material wasn't always good. He was always great in everything. Skullmaster was one of my favourite villains as a kid.

No it doesn't. As with Tim Curry above: retired, living or deceased actors are all fine. That's the fun dream casting. Tony Jay is another one that could have been anyone in Transformers and he would have been awesome.

Here's another pick. There were three contenders for the first new Maximal in Beast Wars. Wolfang, Polar Claw and Tigatron. Ultimately, the role became Tigatron accompanied by the sublime tones of Blu Mankuma.

Yet, what if the original marketing had prevailed upon the show budget?

Polar Claw

Only one voice came to mind. To portray such a majestic and intimidating presence as a Bear Bot.

I don't really think he needs any introduction. But I included this anyway.

Well these are not underutilized characters, but these came to mind for me:

Christopher Lee as Alpha Trion. Talk about a perfect character for Lee's awesome voice. Would have been amazing!

David Warner as Shockwave. Corey Burton based his voice for Shockwave on Warner anyway, so why not get the real thing? Loved Warner in Batman the animated series too. Perfect for the role.

George C. Scott as Kup. Especially in his later years, Scott would have been perfect for the grumpy old soldier.

Patrick Dempsey as Ratchet. Already has played a surgeon and already been in a Transformers movie.

Chris Pine as Hot Rod/Rodimus. Hot Rod is kind of similar to Pine's Kirk in that he's a heroic yet immature guy with potential who matures into a leader.

Kate Mulgrew as Elita-1. Captain Janeway as the voice of the female resistance fighters on Cybertron!

Vincent Price. I haven't decided on a character yet for Price, but he would have been amazing in Transformers. Maybe Jhiaxus?

Well, if we're keeping it to comic characters that never been to screen, my choices would be

Straxus voiced by James Earl Jones

Thunderwing voiced by Tony Todd

Emirate Xaaron voiced by Anthony Daniels

Comic Scorponok voiced by Vin Diesel

Comic Fortress Maximus voiced by Dwayne Johnson

Ohh, nice one! I could also see him play Big Convoy; he can get that mix of authority, empathy and weariness that made Peter Cullen the Optimus Prime for many fans, and has the baritone for such a physically imposing character.

From the "horror"/"mad scientist" type he usually played, from the top of my mind I'd pick Flame, Mindwipe (G1 and especially Animated versions) and Flatline.

Also Polar Claw, if only because of this (I know he wasn't the only celebrity in this campaign, but it's just so out there!):

Honestly, I've always pictured him with Scott McNeil's Dinobot voice. Must be the teeth with the snarl.

Meanwhile, here's a few more picks from me:
- Grey DeLisle-Griffin as either Esmeral, Flamewar or Lyzack (can you tell I loved her work as Azula?).

- Matt Smith as Heinrad (not my first Doctor, but certainly my favorite).

I've also been trying to find a good voice for Scrounge; so far the best I've come up with were Dana Snyder or Hank Azaria, but they still don't feel fully right.

I think Jim Parsons would be a good Scrounge.

Arnold Schwarzenegger voicing Grimlock (even though I think he should never be voiced by anyone besides Gregg Berger, he's so good at it).

Sylvester Stallone voicing Razorclaw/Predaking.

I think John Kassir would make a great Decepticon voice. He is more know as the Crypt Keeper voice, but personally I found his voice in video games. He voices Deadpool in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games and Monsoon in Metal Gear Rising Revegeance.

He could play a high energy character, the first one to come to mind, that would fit with this voice is Bisk

When I read Scrounge's Epic tale, in the part work. As a one and done character. I had a different voice from the above, in mind...

Danny DeVito

For a while I've been mulling over this one...

Image

Bludgeon

While I like the silent route that Cyberverse took with him (outside of Japan, apparently). He is one of those characters that doesn't necessarily have a voice I can imagine when reading his comic appearances. You could go down the route of generic samurai voice. Except he isn't one. The samurai aesthetic is as much a disguise as any other altmode. It is fake. So that's why I can't hear that kind of dialogue from him. So I looked to one of the more iconic voice actors and to me, it just fit...

Image
Simon Templeman

Chiefly, I know him as Kain. But he has been in a lot more than that. So if they ever wanted to go down the route of bring other Decepticon Leaders into the shows in lieu of Megatron/Galvatron/Starscream etc. I think he, as Bludgeon, would work.

I also think Tim Curry would do a very good Megadeath. Or Corey Burton with his Peter Lorre impersonation in the Crash Bandicoot series.
Image

Now for someone outside G1, I think a Wolverine actor would be a good voice for Ramulus. Maybe Cathal J. Dodd or Steve Blum.

Primus

As I understand, the Unicron Trilogy did give a voice to Primus. But the mind of Cybertron hasn't received one outside of that continuity. So I thought, Primus needs a voice on par with Orson Welles' definitive Unicron. It didn't take long to think of an appropriate parallel, matching that gravitas.

Image
Jeremy Irons

He's been in a lot. However, most people of a Certain Age, will know him as the voice of Scar (Lion King) or Alfred from the Snyderverse movies. Either of those examples get the point across very well.

Didn't Isaac C. Singleton, Jr. voice him in the WfC game? Or is the Core separate from Primus?

But yeah, Jeremy Irons would be a good Primus voice.

It would be quicker if they talked in superfast digital code, like a modem on amphetamines. Even little animals can use superfast vocalisation. Try listening to mouse squeaks or bird chirps slowed down.

The problem is that we couldn't understand superfast digital code.
