Transformers fiction turns 38 years old today

Today marks the 38th anniversary of the release of Marvel Comics' The Transformers issue 1 (May 8th, 1984). The first official media for the Transformers franchise.

To get the celebration started, here are the storyboards from that very first animated advert. Produced so early on that none of the bots featured even had names. The storyboards are permanently based at:

If only the comics' character profiles were used for the cartoon, it would have been much better. But only so much could be squeezed into a 22-minute you commercial.

The comics were my first experience with Transformers, specifically issue #13, and I've been hooked since. Probably why I thought Megatron looks much better with a black helmet than a gray one.

Shout out to Bob Budiansky for coming up with the personalities for the characters and basic history that would serve as a base for all of the future series.
