Seibertron's own jazzrules has found an Official Press Release from ComicNewsI relating to the upcoming IDW Publishing series "All Hail Megatron".

It’s often said that the true measure of a hero is based on the quality of the villain—and TRANSFORMERS has some of the greatest villains in pop culture. But the heroic AUTOBOTS have kept the evil DECEPTICONS in check—until now.

Starting in July, IDW Publishing will unveil a turning point in the TRANSFORMERS saga. TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON, under license from HPG, the licensing division of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS). Set one year after the events of TRANSFORMERS: Devastation, TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON launches a new storyline that shows what happens when great heroes aren’t around to defend against their powerful villains. The DECEPTICONS, led by the ruthless MEGATRON, have somehow succeeded in dispatching the AUTOBOTS and their leader, OPTIMUS PRIME, leaving Earth ripe for the plucking.

The 12-part maxi-series takes TRANSFORMERS in an epic new direction courtesy of writer Shane McCarthy (Detective Comics, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight) and fan-favorite artist Guido Guidi (TRANSFORMERS Spotlight: Galvatron, TRANSFORMERS Beast Wars: The Ascending). Together, they tell the tale of an Earth decimated by the DECEPTICONS. Where are the AUTOBOTS, and how did they come to be exiled from Earth? Who has changed sides, who will live, and who will die? These questions, as well as the introduction of an all-new Transformers character, will be answered in the pages of the series.

“This thing is going to knock the fans’ socks off,” McCarthy says. “This is exactly the kind of story I’ve always wanted to see done, and I think the fans will be right there with me.”

IDW’s Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall added, “ALL HAIL MEGATRON is what the AUTOBOTS fought so hard to prevent, the ultimate culmination of MEGATRON’s plans. It’s destruction on a grand scale; it’s a story of sacrifice, lost heroism, betrayal, and hopefully at the end, renewal.

“But this series, more than any other we’ve done, shows that hopes don’t amount to much in the face of unrelenting evil. Shane’s story hearkens back to the greatest stories in TRANSFORMERS history, while still feeling vibrant and excitingly new. And the best part is the accessibility of the tale makes this a perfect jumping-on spot for new fans of good comics, along with long-time followers of TRANSFORMERS.”

TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON #1 is being solicited for July ’08 release. It will feature a victorious MEGATRON cover by Klaus Scherwinski, as well as a distinctive variant cover by Trevor Hutchison.

It seems like we will be getting far more than we bargained for with this series, while the wording of the press release is sure to raise more questions about how "All Hail" will tie into (if at all) the main IDW Universe.

Beyond the capacity of this series being utterly fantastic in its potential of displaying the nuances of inter-Decepticon diplomacy, I have one word:

TRYPTICON

Decepticon City-State

I hope it doesn't tie into the rest of the IDW universe. Be nice to get something that is independent of Furman's stuff. It's the only way to create a series that has some potential.

Am I the only one feeling offput by the fact that this seems to be a parallell (spelling?) universe future of the IDW-verse instead of the actual events?

Don't see how people keep getting this sort of impression.

This takes place one year after Devastation, the "real" Devastation that just ended, and it's all "actual events". :)

ummmmm. Better.

As Doc Holliday might say.

Seriously though. Wow. IDW has totally slain me with imaginative brilliance and joy. The end of Devestation was:

Magnifique!

I'm re-watching the Takara animated series' in a whole new perspective, and at least we can attempt with good reason to explain why Sunstreaker turns up in two different locations in the Animated Movie.

:P

Now I get 12 birthdays in one year?

Does that mean Furman get's a well deserved 12 month break before he dismembers our Universe's again?

I Hope so.

Oh IDW you spoil us too much.

Interesting, will this be like that MArvel story where every bot is dead or in the case of Prime just a head and Ratchet kinda saves the day?

Can't wait for this thing!

Because it is occurng at the same time as the Revelations comic, and isn't written by Furman. It feels distinctly AU in presentation.

It could just be a "meanwhile, back on Earth" scenario, rather than occuring in an alternate universe.

There is enough going on in the IDW Trasuniverse right now to have two series running at the same time and in the same timeline. I think having the Earth Story seperate from the Space Story (for lack of better term) is a good idea right now. So much was going on in Devastation that some things were drug out way too long. Remember the mult-issue took forever junkyard chase? Doing things this way will not only seperate things out for readers, but allow all the different sub-plots to get the attetion they deserve.

Our bento box with small bits of various stories is turning in to a full a multi-course meal now. This is a good thing.

I think I remember seeing Simon say somewhere that he was preparing things for Shane to take over on this series, so this is unlikely to be an alternate universe.

And also, just because Revelations runs at the same time, it doesn't mean that All Hail and Revelations are happening simultaneously - Revelations could happen a few days after Devastation, while All Hail is a year afterwards

Final point, none of the characters the spotlight falls on in Revelations are actually on Earth now, so it is possible that we will see nothing of Earth in the four issues.

Hey, I'll be happy as a pig in **** if this is actually what IS and WILL happen in the regular IDWverse. I just have a suspicion that it will end up being an AU story.

Based on what? Simple lack of information?

Even disregarding the press release, and comments from both Chris Ryall and Shane McCarthy-- events in the comic continuity itself lend themselves quite clearly to setting the stage for this series.
