Reconciling the continuities - Personal Fanon

I think you can tell by my username that I like Optimus Prime. He's probably my favorite character, hardly being in the IDW-verse (my favorite continuity). I was thinking the other day of mixing elements I liked from other continuities (Aligned really) to get a background that meshes with what I'd like to be my personal fanon. I just wanted to share a little of it here.
I stated with the IDW-continuity. It's my favorite so far and seems to feel right to me. I love the idea of Prime being a cop. Very action-heroy and good for stories. However, due to my own profession, I also dug the DreamWorks and Aligned background of a librarian. Something about a knowledgeable and educated soldier just strikes me as awesome. So how to fit these together?
In my head I imagine Orion Pax starting out as a data clerk or librarian under Alpha Trion. He'd have the "new" Orion Pax body that he sported in the Pax spotlight. Something happens, perhaps relating to the upcoming tension of rebellion and Trion rebuilds him in his cop body that we are familiar with from IDW.
It's not a perfect idea, but I like it and it preserves two divergent backgrounds by integrating them into one. Anyone else do something similar?
