The latest issue of Bloomberg Business Weekly features a cover story about Hasbro getting the Disney Princess deal, which spells big money for Hasbro and a big loss for Mattel.

The cover image is an awesome picture introducing the princesses to Hasbro figures with Robots in Disguise Optimus Prime being smothered by Elsa from Frozen. We also get a quick rundown chart of how much money Transfromers made at retail in 2014, compared to other toy brands at both Hasbro and Mattel. While the Transformers brand beat Star Wars (390 M$ over 377 M$, something that is sure not to happen this year) we can see that the brand iself is still trailing behind My Little Pony, Nerf, Play-Doh and Monopoly. There is a Playskool brand as well and it is unclear where Rescue Bots would be counted in this chart.

Maybe with all these extra billions, they will be able to afford less-hollow figures?

This should be a really good thing for everyone (except Mattel).

Elsa probably helps when Prime's circuits get "overheated and need a cool down" :P

I'll see myself out

Due to how cheap quality plastic is these days I doubt that we will ever see hollowless Transformers in our life time that is assuming Transformers is still going after a couple hundred years.

Well no I'm saying that I doubt Transformers is going to be around for another century.

Which is not enough time to get our plastic problems corrected.

I'm just pulling your leg man. I would actually love to see how far this franchise can go. It is so huge compared to what it was in 1984 and other franchises like Marvel are just getting more and more popular (I read comics in the 90s and would have never believed it if someone told me Iron man would be the most popular hero of the Marvel Universe). I am very curious to see how it will all end if it does. G1 Joe and Microman would be our best examples of franchises that are practically at the point of extinction.

Then again, this article gives 2 perfect examples of brands that are very old and have stood the test of time: Disney and Barbie. Those numbers for Barbie are insane and have only gotten bigger in time. Transfomrers might go that way too (or go the GI Joe Route), who knows.

It helps that Transformers is such an intriguing and interesting idea you know Giant Transforming sentient robots from space becoming earth vehicles.

I highly doubt it, any extra money will go to the company execs and major share holders & thats it. Plus im sure disney is getting the majority of any profits out of this.

But on another note disney just needs to buy hasbro already, get it over with we all know its coming. Why else would you go with them instead of a company thats been making dolls for decades

Wow I thought Transformers were a bit more lucrative for Hasbro.....
I love the picture of the princesses interacting with the other franchise characters

TF gets their robo butts whipped in the face of a legion of screeming "girls"

Good for Hb, bad for Mattel.

Personally, I don't think the "hollowness" goes away no matter how much you add to the budget. Any budget spent on forearm flaps is budget that could otherwise be spent on paint applications or more guns.

Of course, I prefer my CHURG figures maxed out on arsenal, so that's why I don't complain about "hollowness". :D

The article is linked in the news and answers that question quite well. Disney was tired of the overly girly approach Mattel was going for and Hasbro wowed them with their design proposal. Its a pretty good article, well worth the read.

Oh and what Disney property is left that Hasbro isnt doing?

Well it was a great idea for Hasbro to ditch the girly approach made by other toy companies
