A bit slow on the uptake there, thats already been stated many many times.
where was it posted about the porn industry in this topic? I reread it 2 times just to make sure it wasn't said and I don't even see it once.

In this topic? Nowhere. It's been said before, though.

So has the Blu-Ray/Betamax comparison.

i realize that, i read about it on this site like 2 weeks ago. I just didnt see it posted in this topic, so I'd give my two cents and my opinion is coincidentaly, based off of the betamax comparison to bluray.

The porn industry is going HDDVD, not Bluray. I'm not sure if the Beta/BR comparison is a good one, because Beta actually had higher quality than VHS. VHS is just the one that caught on and people used. Bluray is more of a strange idea of Sony's that basically can't work out well for them.

Sony's already claiming victory with Blue Ray and claiming they're selling 2-1. Now we haven't seen any statistics and we know how easy it is to make up these things. I think Sony is jumping he gun here. They did the same thing with PS3. Their PS3 is not selling well because of it's price and a lack of a good VG library, and no re-released movies are porting over to either because there is no victor and they want to save money.

Funny thing is I doubt either will win. Online media is becoming more and more popular. My guess is we'll see online format media being the real winner. It's easier, requires no trips to a store. You can just buy it online and view it whenever you want.

Right now I wouldn't pay $100 for it. who wants to buy a console for one game. I have never been a big fan of playstation any way. I have had both the first and second but I just never enjoyed the majority of their games. Resident evil was the only reason for ever owning a Playstation.

The RPG Library is the biggest on the playstation consoles thus was why I went with it. I won't get a Ps3 though it is just a waste to get it now when in 2 years it'll be worth what 200 or 300$?

If the price drops, then I might get the PS3. I already got the PS2, but there are some pretty interesting games for the PS3.

By the way, I need to ask a stupid question. I know that Devil May Cry 4 is being released for the PS3, but is it also being release for the PS2?

Nope, it's PS3 exclusive.

On the plus side, Nero (The DMC version of Metal Gear's Raiden) is going to be voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, who not only did the voice for Vash in Trigun, but he was also a Power Ranger.

Great choice for a Voice Actor.

A $600 vido game system had better provide a whole lot of satisfaction.

..oral satisfaction.

According to what I read on Wiki one day when I was bored, VHS also beat out Beta cause it could hold an extra hour of footage at that time. Most beta stuff was 1 hour, and VHS was 2 hours, which of course is what most movies clock in at. So that also kind of factored into VHS's dominance.

Personally, I don't know which one will take off. DVD has only been the new standard for around ten years, maybe less than that, so I doubt casual consumers will pony up a lot of money for something that is only marginally better at this point in time.

10 years is stretching it. Most people had just gotten into DVD's when the PS2 came out. In fact that was the reason many bought it because it was a cheap DVD player. So you're looking at maybe 5-6 total of it being the primary format. These new HD formats at this point in time are for an extremely niche market. Last time I checked only 12% of the US has an HDTV. And of that 12% how many do you think are willing to give up $500 for one of these new players? Not to mention a $10 increase in cost of each movie. You won't see a new format take off for at least another 2 years. And even then it won't be the main format.

Good, good... this might drive the price of the X-360 down. :P

Seriously though, I thought the price was the main negative about the system, until I heard my tech-obsessed buddies ranting on it. Sounds like you'd really only want it if -

1) Your PS2 gave out and you couldn't replace it.
2) There is a platform exclusive game you're obsessed with.
3) Someone holds you at gun point and demands that you take it.

1) hasnt happened yet, and has no sign of doing so
2) a very distinct possibility
3) unless the person holding the gun to my head is me, not very likely.

You can scratch #1 for Europe at the moment as Sony have apparently reduced the backward compatabiliy with ps2 games on the european model.

CVG wrote:SCEE has revised the specifications for the European PlayStation 3 console, revealing that the PAL version of the console won't include full backwards compatibility for PS2 game, but all PSone game will still be supported.

"PS3 is first and foremost a system that excels in playing games specifically designed to exploit the power and potential of the PS3 system," said David Reeves, President of SCEE. "Games designed for PS3 offer incredible graphics quality, stunning gameplay and massively improved audio and video fidelity that is simply not achievable with PS and PS2 games.

"Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology."

PSone games will work on PS3 and a limited number of PS2 titles will also work on the console. Sony told CVG this morning that the firm will launch a site where gamers will be able to check and see what games are backwards compatible on a regualr basis. Also, a new firmware update will be available on launch of PS3.

Stay tuned for further updates.

It is looking as though SONY is just digging it's grave deeper and deeper. It wouldn't surprise me now if they ended up going the route of the Sega Saturn and Dreamcast. It is a dark day in video gaming. A dark, dark day!

Lmao! Sony you're so damn hilarious! please keep talking, you amuse me to no end!

So europe won't have ps2 backward compatabiliy under the excuse of "Rather than concentrate on PS2 backwards compatibility, in the future, company resources will be increasingly focused on developing new games and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, truly taking advantage of this exciting technology."
lol!

Mercenaries 2 is coming to the Xbox 360...thats all I needed to know. I was getting worried it was going to be some stupid PS3 exclusive, now it coming out for PC and PS2 as well.

Sweet. The first Mercenaries was awesome.

My only problem with it was that I wanted to be in all four faction's good graces, but I couldn't do a mission for one without pissing off another.

yeah, that might be a key factor, but then i don't truly see a critical reason why porn went with vhs, as most porn doesnt even come close to clocking in at an hour.

but I can honestly see the same thing happening here with blu-ray. Blu-ray in my honest opinion is a waste for now, especially because ps3 games at the moment look exactly the same as 360 games. (i don't want to start a war here, but even if the quality of current and near-future ps3 games is better, its not noticable enough to even consider.)

I'd have to agree. The only difference is most likely which has more browns and bloom.
