Doesn't Hot Rod have better accessories for it though, between the saw blade and the optional visor for the PotP look? I don't remember SG Rodimus ever having the trailer.

His visor and saw don't make up for how much better the Kingdom Prime figure is. Sword offsets saw, visor is really the only thing missing, but even then, the SS86 mold is just so much inferior.

Plus, Kingdom doesn't use faux parts, has a bigger spoiler, is more solid, and many others things.

i too got notice Grimlock was preparing to ship. Dangit!

I'm holding out on Grimlock in case I like the g2 version more, hopefully a reveal or leak comes out soon

My grimlock arrived today. I really wish he had a sword instead of his gun for this release, but he still looks cool. The purple and turquoise is pretty rich. And the orange is striking. Plus, considering he is a genius, I like to give him this saucy smirktastic pose letting everyone know he is better than them

Most likely his gun is gang-molded with the rest.
But where's Sam?

Got my Grimlock today too.

I never realized how much the molding of a figure can do for the visuals, because SG Grimlock's paint is very minimal and the molding does some HEAVY lifting. The end result is pretty damn good, I just wish the gray paint was more matte and less glossy. But it's still really good.

I do wish he came with the sword as well, but considering SG Grimlock is a Genius Tactician, I guess a gun is more in line with him than a melee weapon.

Would be cool to get one of those "Figure with a bunch of Accessories & Combat Effect" packs they've done before for SG.

Edit: So here's an issue: I can't flip out Grimlock's right hand after having transformed him and back. It's just completely stuck in there.

Edit2: Managed to get it out by carefully wedging a small tool in there to get some leverage. But it was REALLY stuck in there.

Did anyone else encounter any QC issues with their SG Grimlock? My thanks in advance! :VEHI:

As I mentioned in the post above, the ONLY issue I've had is that the fists can get stuck after folding them in.

It seems there are two thresholds the fists can fold to. The first is a soft notch that will keep them in place. But if you go past that, there's a second hard notch that will lock the fist in with a click and become VERY difficult to flip it back out from. The trick seems to be being delicate and not going past the first threshold.

But otherwise, no issues. No bad paint, no mismatched or incorrect parts, etc.

SS86 Hot Rod mold confirmed for SG Rodimus:
My Grimlock (who I'll be using as Trypticon) is supposed to get here today, after apparently being trapped in Portland for all of yesterday.

That silver paint is SHARP. Surprised they went with that instead of just white, but it really looks great.

I wonder why ( aside from cost) they chose SS86 Hot Rod as the template and not Kingdom Rodimus? I mean even if they didn't want to include the trailer and all the extras, they could have sold the Rodimus body/ vehicle by itself.

That's because K Rodimus is most likely molded with the trailer part. And since he's the only Commander that under-performed, "reissuing" it was a bad idea.

Probably because the character was always Hot Rod in all but name and never truly Rodimus Prime. The original toy was released at the time when Hasbro no longer had the name "Hot Rod" available to use, and were instead using just "Rodimus" without the "Prime" to refer to Hot Rod. Such was the case with the original 2006 release of the Classics Rodimus mold, which was also used for the original 2008 SG figure.

They've also put up a listing for the G2 Mirage we know his coming from Toxitron Collection, but their picture for that is literally just a digibash of that color scheme on the Siege mold (it's still watermarked even) that has been around since Siege, so I don't know if their picture for Rodimus is 100% indicative of the final mold choice, since I doubt Hasbro is going to randomly revert back to the Siege mold for that Mirage.

A little bummed the Lost Light colors didn't happen. But maybe that's not a bad thing, they can still do it properly later rather than try to shoehorn it into SG.

Personally, I'd rather we get a brand new Lost Light Hot Rod mold using his comic body design first, and then have that figure redecoed into his dark colors from the same series, to really get the look right.

That would definitely be preferred, but I don't see them doing that design without it being a retool of another figure.

You never know. They've certainly surprised us before. Everyone expected Jhiaxus to be an Armada Starscream pretool, but he turned out to be his own brand new mold.

I guess that makes sense. I was just thinking back to the previous Rodimus Unicronus toy in PotP which was both a Hotrod & Rodimus Upgrade.

That is true also. So probably no shot at a Golden Primus then :(

Yeah, but with that toy, Hasbro went out of their way to say "No no, this isn't SG Roddy, no siree, this is totally a NEW form of normal Roddy who's instead a Unicron-corrupted version! Look! He even has a :CON: Decepticon symbol, too! No :SG-BOTS: SG Autobot symbol here, no siree! And look! He's even the main big bad of our new Machinima cartoon's third season! Where he's definitely not SG Roddy, no siree; he's totally Unicron in normal Roddy's body! Why don't you give it a watch, eh? You might like it, yeah? It's the third season, yes? We pulled out all the stops for this one, yep! So why don't you watch it? Why don't you like it? Why don't you love it? WHY U NO LUV IT? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

And definitely don't look back at our original stock photos and convention displays! It's a gray symbol not purple, totally different!

I'll probably grab SG Hot Rod, mostly just because I like the colors, but I'm not sold on the flame decal. Would have preferred it be closer to Rodimus Unicronus or Black Rodimus Convoy's, but they look dead on accurate to the original's. Little odd to me that they chose to go with the black spoiler, not grey because it should be molded with other parts that could have been grey
