For all the previous Magnus' faults I prefer him over this one. The unique mould is always a plus for me. The only reason I can think of for releasing this too is that if he appears in the show, they can reuse op's cgi model and have it tweaked rather tha commission a new rig from scratch.

In honesty I prefer FOC shockwave, but I will get this one nonetheless. He'll be my first shockwave ever.

Holding off on PRiD Optimus Prime has paid off... Mostly. Now I can't decide between PRiD and BH Magnus, flatnose or long nose. :-?

Shockwave's future acquisition is only logical, unification with other Shockwaves is mandatory.

Affirmative. Skyquake/Dreadwing no longer necessary.

Shockwave is awesome. Not replacing FoC Shockwave for me, but still awesome.

Magnus is fail. Good thing I have the PRID version.

Shockwave looks amazing! I can't wait! UM, on the other hand, would be much better a few shades darker; I really like the remold though.

Shockwave is a MUST!!!!! Anyone who doesn't want Shockwave is not a Transformers fan.

Also, seems I'm part of the group that wants all 3 versions of Magnus (Platinum being the 3rd). I love that we're gatting a new voyager, but I must ask, why his shoulders hurt?

I'm honestly not sure why they made this version of Ultra Magnus, really. The PRID version was more than enough. I don't want a remold with a bunch of junk on it. The PRID version works just fine being a brand new mold, all to itself.

I don't understand Hasbro one bit.

They cut Breakdown out (and don't listen to their excuses or "reasons" why, it's bull), they make TWO versions of all the major players (First Edition, then PRID), and now they're doing it again.

Optimus, I get. He's going to be redesigned in the show, he's THE major character, okay. A new Bulkhead and Starscream as well? That's the 3rd mold for those characters, so far. In the same toyline. (I don't care if it's considered a subline or has a tagline or whatever, it's all Prime.)

Hasbro wants to save money, cut costs, etc. Well, uh...doing things this way? Waste. An absolute waste.

I just don't get it. WTH?

I'm not sure BH Starscream or Bulkhead are cutting costs. Maybe if they were slight remolds of previously released figures, but they're not. At least Magnus I can understand, sort of. He's a retool, which presumably is cheaper than making a new mold (lets ignore the fact that there's already a unique mold for Magnus) but screamer and bulk are pretty much brand new. I think the BH SS does use a similar transformation scheme to FE Screamer, but doesn't look like they share any parts.

I don't think many of the characters in the show will end up looking like their revamped BH toy designs anyway (Prime seems likely, but dunno about the rest that aren't new) but I suppose Hasbro reckons a new toy with a name kids are already familiar with will sell better than one with a brand new name (like Autobot RoadBuster for Double-BH for example) so have kept the new toys designs vaguely familiar as well.

If Ultra Magnus shows up in season 3, giving him his own CGI model would mean more money to spend when it could go to another new character. Recoloring and modifying the old Optimus model for Ultra Magnus doesn't stretch their budget to infinity and beyond, and they can give us another character.

With the excetion of RID, Animated, Energon and PRID, Ultra Magnus has ALWAYS been a repaint/retool of an existing Prime mold.

Why start complaining now?

I'm not complaining about Magnus, specifically. I'm complaining about the need to make multiples when they needn't do so.

Becuase there IS a need to do so.

magnus is an easy pass & shockwave will probably be too, robot mode is good but the alt mode & armor are horrible.

How two different Prime Ultra Magnus designs got approved within just a year of each other is beyond me, especially since he went from a totally unique design to being just a retool of Optimus. You'd think that since the toyline didn't start until long after the show got going there wouldn't be this repetition, that which ever design was approved first would've been the "canon" design, or at least it'd have been a simple retool first then the totally unique design. The only other bots in remotely similar situations that I can recall have been those with generic names (i.e. Dead End, Air Raid).

It'd be insane if we didn't get at least a Deluxe Breakdown in BH after that.

Its because Magnus is portrayed as the TF Prime repaint in the comics now.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I do really like the look of the PRID version, and I do prefer owning unique molds where possible, but I never bought PRID Prime as I have the FE one, so despite being similar, this version of Magnus will still be a unique mold for my collection.

Add to that the fact that his hammer is much improved, he has TWO shoulder missiles instead of one wrist one, and his chest plate is very G1-esque, and I am sold on the BH version.

Also... with the sole exception of various Megatrons (DOTM, PRID) I have hated every single mechtech/powerizer weapon as I find them ugly and distracting... and PRID Magnus' Hammer/Gun is no exception.

Now, what will really make this BH Magnus figure for me is if the wing assembly is removable, so I can put that aside and do a mod to shorten the "PRID Prime Cape".

I was half hoping I'd get away with sneaking Shockwave into my Classics line-up, but I don't see that happening. I'm still really looking forward to getting hold of him.

No matter how hard I try I can't help but see Magnus as a step backwards given what we got in the RiD line. It just ain't right.

I still can't help but feel this is what they should have done to begin with. I still say PRiD Magnus is awkward at best. Those shoulder struts look awful! I even like the gunhammer, but his gigantic arms being attached to his body by TIIIINY little struts? Who thought that was a good idea!? #-o

So I only just now took a good look at the in-box image of Magnus, and it sure looks like his "wing pack" is a separate piece. First off, it looks like it's tucked away in the lower right corner of the package, and you certainly don't see it on the in-box figure. Also, the box art of Magnus in truck mode depicts him without the wings hanging out the back of the truck...

Now I absolutely want this figure!
