I totally wish I had waited to pick up retail Shockwave now. THAT is a cool set.

I keep sing the Dexter's Laboratory the,e song, replacing Dexter w/Shockwave.

Shame about that price on the Shockwave lab set. Too much for that, honestly. To be honest, I have no use for a second Shockwave, nor do I have a use for Commander Class Predaking, but the entire set with that presentation...is gorgeous.

Does make it rather difficult to pass up. It looks really great.

The only problem I have with this is that they're gonna release the leftover stock on hasbrotoystore.com a few days after the con, any metroplexes left will be gone in 6 seconds, shockwave might linger a few days, and the titans will just stay on there forever. Frankly? reeeeeally want that metroplex, just not 225$ before shipping worth.

Where've you been? They've been using the word "convert" for a good long while.

I know. I've been biting my tongue for quite some time. :P Why don't they just call it what they are?

The 12 mini-figurines are neither Legends nor Decoys, but they are particularly similar to the latter. They are either solid red (for the Autobots) or solid purple (for the Decepticons) little statuettes of Autobots and Decepticons in dynamic action poses. Each one is based on an existing Thrilling 30 Generations design and make for nice display pieces. They almost look like table top game pieces.

As not to dilute the "Transformers" trademark. If "transforms" is used too much and becomes commonplace, it's rendered generic and can no longer be protected by trademark law. We've already lost names thanks to becoming generic, last thing we need is losing the name of the toy line to the Public Domain :-B

The normal Metroplex will be priced 100$ and available everywhere for sure. Even in Québec.

To get the SDCC version, I'll have to pay the 150$ price tag, plus at least 50$ of shipping, plus the innevitable custom fees that would be around 30$. So, that quite literally DOUBLE the price of the normal one I'd buy in store, even with 15% taxes added. So, yeah, I'll pass on the SDCC Metroplex and I will wait for it to come out in stores.

Another addition to the SDCC preview and unboxing sets: this time, Seibertron is proud to present the SDCC exclusive Shockwave's Lab set, featuring a redecoed Beast Hunters Voyager Shockwave and Cyberverse Commander Predaking. Check out the images below!

  • This is 30th anniversary celebration #2 out of 30, according to the bottom of the box
  • Box has a slip cover (hence the two different sets of pics for in-box)
  • Text from box:
SHOCKWAVE'S LAB

Deep within a secret facility, SHOCKWAVE labored, pushing DECEPTICON science to its absolute limits and beyond. His discovery of ancient Cybertronian genetic material led him to breakthrough after breakthrough, until he was able to realize a dream - one that would become an apocalyptic nightmare for the AUTOBOTS. It was there in that lab that SHOCKWAVE created his masterpiece - the resurrection of the mighty, remorseless and barbarous PREDAKING.

Ryan -

What do you think of the lab? Is it sturdy/heavy/good plastic quality?

People keep reiterating that it's not worth $50 bucks, but it IS an SDCC exclusive, and comes with a new deco of BH Voyager shockwave + mini-Predaking in addition to the lab apparatus itself.

Do you think it's worth it?

The lab is just made of the plastic you see a lot on the inside of packages for the interior tray. I think it's worth $50 for a premium repaint of a popular figure and a variant of a smaller figure that I think many of us would be $50 just for Predaking if it had been a Japanese variant. If the $50 is worth two variants to you, then go for it. But don't buy it for the "lab" which is just interior packaging and not an actual "toy" per se.

If I saw that Metroplex on the shelf, I'd get it right there and then. But I'm not going to spend $150 plus shipping and tax for something I can get for a little cheaper. Yes, yes, he's got the gun (as much as I want the extra) and the chrome-iness, but I'm not interested in the chrome and little Decoy homages: I just want Metroplex himself, Scamper, and the extra gun. I guess I can live without the extra gun.

Really want that Shockwave Laboratory set. If I got this, Predaking can just stay in that tube of his. :P

I still dislike that Titan Guardian set. For one, they should've added another Autobot, like Bumblebee. Second, they just don't look at all appealing to me. >:oP

I'm interested to learn more about the exclusive 30 toys they're doing. So the SDCC exclusives make up the first three, then the Platinum toys make up five more?

So, the lab is just the package…disappointing.
I don't need to pay $50 for that, I could do it myself at home.
Actually… I will do it myself, hahaha

Would anyone that plans on going to SDCC be willing to help me out getting Metroplex? I have a feedback thread in the Carbombya section.

i wish the mini figures that come with SDCC metroplex looked like the titan guardians..

but the titan guardians could've been sooo much better. i wish they were more like robot replicas.. i wish they were articulated.. at 6 inches, they look like down scaled G1 versions of those crappy optimus and bumblebee prime toys that are showing up at toys r us.

the guardians were cool when i thought they'd be like 3-4 inches tall and could look decent with metroplex.

oh well.

i'm tempted to pick up the sdcc metroplex, but i'm undecided at this point. i wish the face was painted silver rather than being chrome, i just don't understand the chrome, it doesn't really fit (in my opinion). i wish the retail version had the extra red gun.. it would make my decision MUCH easier.

also.. i think it's really lame that the mini figures aren't G1 versions of the characters.. instead, it just looks like a mishmash of more recently released/upcoming toys, which i think is quite lame. and to not have any paint on them at all is pretty lame as well. they managed to paint the small titanium figures.. i'd prefer something like that instead.

again, oh well.

won't all of these be available through hasbro's online store?

So how does this Shockwave repaint compare to the Takara TF Go version? I have Takara's and it's beautiful. Is the SDCC version any different/worth getting if I have the Takara version already?

As for Metroplex, I'll be skipping him. I've got the Takara version on preorder already and I actually like the gunmetal metallic gray paint Takara used on his hips better than the chrome used on the SDCC version.
