The Cybertron Seeker mold is still one of the best. Only own Dirge from that but, he's still awesome.

As a TC and SW fan, I rarely if ever go for Star Scream, and tend to wait for the inevitable repaints. The only 2 actual Stascreams I own are 2007 Movie, and Prime SS.

I do own G1 TC, Armada TC, Cybertron TC, Titanium TC, Legends TC, "Cybertron" Dirge, Classics SW, the ER TC & SW set.

As a Kid I owned G1 TC, and yes I lost all the parts except strangely enough for the landing gear and a rear fin.

Nice list, Will! I like how it’s not just “top 5 best G1 Starscream Toys” which I think was already a lost anyway. But yeah, that Earthrise Voyager is pretty frikkin rad. It’s the Classics Screamer we deserved back in 2006!

My fellow transformers fans, if I had any opinion at all, about which starscream is the best, I would have to choose between classics starscream, write starscream, and earth rise starscream for this reason the seige starscream pays respect to it's cybertronia n form from the first episode of the G1 cartoon, and as with earth rise starscream, his and the classics transformation's are perfect, and so is the articulation, however I agree with the fact that there are no jets on his earth rise version

So the thing with Earthrise Starscream is: I am forced to agree that it's ultimately an upgrade relative to the Classics deluxe mold, if only because the superior articulation gives him much more life.

But I gotta say... there are a lot of ways in which it feels lower quality. There's a lot less paint, the plastic feels just a tiny bit cheaper, the wings constantly pop off, and I absolutely hate the way the chest untabs, where you just kinda have to squeeze one painted plastic part around another. The classics mold just had an elegance to it that the ER one lacks.

All of which adds up to this weird paradox: I think ER Starscream is better than Classics Starscream. I like ER Starscream. But I don't love ER Starscream, and I do love that classics mold.

(To be fair, that love is no doubt fueled by all the later uses of the classics seeker mold, almost all of which are excellent and a cut above Screamer himself.)

The Classics Seeker mold was that first realization of a G1 true Starscream. And it had so, so many repaints and versions. That's part of the reason I like it so much.

I mean, Robot Masters also existed. But it was hard to get and not very good.

I get it and I feel it too. There was something really ingenius about that initial intuitive mold, especially when comparing to everything out at the same time, plus it feels really quality. But Earthrise is the mold in the way I always wanted. As Nemesis Maximo said, it's what we deserved back in 2006 (especially in the height department since even back in 2006, the seekers should have been voyagers to go with Prime and Megatron). So I basically come to the toy with that approach. It has what I initially love and more.

You bring up a really good idea, how different would this list be if we were talking about a different seeker. I had written a best seeker molds list once and the movie toys were not there because Starscream was a singular character in that body type. Would earthrise still be number 1? Would the MPs actually show up? Not sure. Woudl it change were it a top 5 Dirge list vs a top 5 Skywarp list? Does the idea that the toy must represent a fictional character have any sway? Like how the Prime seeker mold is one of the best, and even though the Thundercracker version is a retool, thus differentiating from Starscream, does the fact that there isn't Prime Thundercracker in the fiction mean he shouldn't count ?

G1-luvin' aside, out of Will's original list I can agree with Prime and Cybertron, both are worthy of being in a top 5.

Pick a character, and if they appeared in Transformers Prime, you can almost guarantee that figure of theirs is going to be in any top 5.

Cybertron Starscream, not the ridiculously upscaled one (because that just becomes hard to handle while transforming) is a great figure. But honestly, Amerada, Energon and Cybertron Starscream are all great figures and would be a three-way tie for me. And I must emphasise when it comes to the Energon version, I mean the original release, not the Energon Energon Starscream repaint that came along later in the more traditional G1 colours. Those colours simply didn't work with that mold I felt.

Now I made a decision when Siege came out to not really collect Siege, that means I never bothered with Earthrise Starscream as I have Henkei Starscream and I'm happy with him in my neo-G1 collection, so I can't comment on ER Starscream (plus I refuse to jump through Hasbros hoops for the rest of the seekers). So Siege Starscream aside, what I feel is a great modern take on Starscream is Combiner Wars Starscream.

Image

Love this mold for the seekers (seriously, **** off Jetfire). Yes it doesn't fit into your precious scaling system, but I don't care. This is the sort of mold that stands out on it's own, it doesn't need to fit in with other figures, it's a figure that would take pride of place in a Starscream shrine (I don't have a Starscream shrine), it's a figure that you put on a shelf with other figures that don't fit in with other parts of your collection. It's not a misfit, it's not a reject, it's not a loser, it's the stand out shelf.

Everyone should have a stand out shelf.

Everyone should have a CW Starscream.
Everyone should also have Stalker on their stand out shelf because ... just **** because!

That mold is pretty cool as a standalone, and I think it would also make a great weapon source for PotP Starscream combiners.

I think the Cybertron Supreme-class Starscream makes a great opponent for Combiners (and Deluxe Megazords, for those of us who are also Power Rangers fans). He is a bit hard to handle when transforming though, thanks to the weight distribution. And he doesn't offer nearly enough extra for the upscale (doesn't even have working hands like Unicron and Primus). And despite what Emerje said in the Earthrise thread, he is an upscale. Part proportions are a little different compared to the Voyager, but not extremely so. The screw placements are different here and there, yes, but that's what happens when you go from Voyager to Supreme. The overall engineering is mostly the same (including most of the warts), and most of the details are directly copied and upsized accordingly.

Anyway, yes, the Cybertron Starscream mold is quite a treat. Looks good, awesome jet/starfighter mode, badass robot mode. Only real knocks are the limited forearm movement in the elbow region (happened a lot in the UT it feels like), and that the electronics were culled too late in development to retool him so he has static pectoral guns for nothing.

Well, my whole collection is pretty much this. Stand out shelves, no care for scale, mostly sorted by characters so scale be damned.

I appreciate CW Leader Starscream, but I preffer the mold as "modern Jetfire". He's nice but not on the top of my "missfit list" as you described. For me, the TRUE "misfit" Starscream who don't belong anywhere but he's so awesome anyway in a "haters gonna hate" attitue is this sonovabitch:

Ah. The OG MP-03 Starscream. At first, I too was a bit confused by the design choices and especially that weird green color scheme. But over time, I warmed up to him to a point when I just had to hunt one down for my own. And man, does he feel way nicer to handle than the insult that is the MP-11 retool. Still, he's damn scary to transform because he does have his fragile points and I don't want to break my baby.

TlDr; Greenscream, the trolling Starscream, is one of the greatest ever! ;)

Yeah, when he first came out I liked the mold as Jetfire, but then I got Starscream and then Thundercracker and Skywarp (and come on, that black and purple is **** sexy and you know it!) and it just made Jetfire look ... well ... a bit boring.

For me it was the opposite. My first MP-03 was the "Walmart" normal colored Starscream. Then I got the Ghost version. Both I paid around 120$CAN shipped at that glorious time when the Canadian dollar was worth equal or more than the US dollar.

Then some years later, I foolishly sold my "Walmart" Starscream to help pay for MP-11... That I paid around 280$ shipped. Worst deal ever. :BANG_HEAD:

Even though I still had (and wtill have) MP-03G, I wanted to get back my old "Walmart" MP-03. But then, I changed my mind because that mold is too... unique to be a "real" Starscream. So I looked up getting the OG Greenscream to have a more unique character. He was (and still is) stupidly expensive though. Then I was lucky enough to stumble uppon a user here that had one for sale. At 160$CAN shipped, it was a nice deal. And once I received him, I was pleased to see him in perfect condition, even with the unused sticker sheet!

Since then, MP-03 is the centerpiece of my MP Starscream display. But once I get the newer MP Starscream 2.0, I guess the newer one will be in the center while MP-11 will be put one the random big-screams shelf, along Machine Wars and CW Leader.

I rarely makes a top 5 or even top 10 list of toys, as i tends to suck at weighing points, but for this case, i do want to try. So, 5 best starscream toys, strictly based on my personal opinion:

5) studio series starscream. I agree with the reasoning explained on the article, this is an upscaled deluxe done well.

4) rid warrior class starscream. I personally feel this particular line actually does many interesting stuff, and warrior starscream is one of them. The transformation actually feels new for a seekers, and the design actually feels fresh while still has a hint of g1.

3) prime voyager/fe deluxe starscream. For me these 2 toys are a tie. They both manage to capture that creepy look that he has, with very minimum back kibble, and both are fun to mess with in their own way.

2) earthrise starscream. Again, upscaled deluxe done well. It manage to capture all the g1 look that made him iconic, with a good amount of articulation.

3) siege starscream. Personally, i think siege mold is my current favorite seeker mold. I actually dig the tetrajet design that sorta looks like it belongs to starwars. Love the look of the robot mode, and of course, his incredible articulation, that really tops earthrise mold by a lot.

I like the CW Leader as Jetfire. It's good. As a Seeker, though, it's just too large to do the trick for me. Same problem as the old Classics mold, but in reverse. Some toys are good in their own right, but don't work thanks to size.

I have MP Greenscream and I like him. The crown tampo wound up wearing off a bit somehow. No idea how in the world that happened, but I was bummed when I noticed it after taking him down from years of display. I think he can be viewed more favorably these days since there are so many options for a more G1 MP Screamer. I transformed him a bunch and he never broke on me. I guess I got lucky?

I owned T30 Jetfire and all 3 CW seekers. I like them all, but sold them off. They have a nice beefy bot mode and a pretty solid jet mode, but for me the transformation is pretty simple and boring, which is the main reason I sold them off.

Add in the better scale and articulation of the more recent molds, and it was time for them to go. But I do agree that they to make a good solid bot as a standalone figure or even the trio of seekers.

I own the CW Thundercracker, and I do agree that mold is really good. I have the Jetfire as well, and Jetfire is a Top 10 of my collection without a doubt. I also love TC, he has withstood any other TC that has come out and remains my prime Thundercracker.

The reason it didn't make my list is because i thought the Starscream one was boring. If this were a list of TCs, or even just "seeker" molds in general, it absolutely would have made it

Depends on the criteria. For the best actual mold, or for the bets representation of a character from the fiction.

I don't really need fiction attached to my characters, but if there is fiction all the better.

I think for the most part if would have remained the same. Though TC and SW do have some molds that SS does not have. But those aren't really all that good so probably would not have made the list.

AS others said, SS Thundercracker easily. That is a superb standalone seeker. It's awesome that he has a Starscream-esque face, but a mold entirely his own style.

CW Thundercracker owns his mold, definitely.

I didn't get siege or ER TC because of CW.

I would argue FOC gave a good set of seekers, I like that trio, decent colors and fun all around.

I'll admit, FOC skywarp does an interesting bit with the colour placement, making that mold look cool. As for Thundercracker, I like the arms Micron version since they remold it for extra firepower on the wings. It's too bad we never got an actual IDW Thundercracker with the split wing design in robot mode.

About the partsforming bit, I always found the new instructions for the Seekers pretty funny.

Step 1, remove everything!

A list of top Thundercrackers would kind of have to define wether your are picking molds he shares with Starscreaam, or molds where he may share with someone else, but not Starscream.

There's a few molds that got made into seekers, but not Starscream, like SS TC. Other options include Machine Wars TC, Botcon 2013 TC (homage to MW TC), Cybertron TC. I think that's about it.

In general, I think Titanium TC, ER TC, and Armada TC, are molds that work for TC superbly well, above and beyond their Starscream usage.

I know, Armada TC, is technically just a powered up Starscream.
