Most likely, the "third" mode is a "battle" mode - either the bot mode or the alt mode with weapons added.

An "in between" or Gerwalk mode as was stated in the article. Basically, the helicopter mode with legs and arms.

The original G1 molds for Whirl, Roadbuster and Jetfire were directly taken from the Macross/Robotech line-up of vehicles/toys. So Whirl and Jetfire have a 3rd or gerwalk mode in the same way that a VF-1J or any VF series jet from Robotech has a 3rd combat mode.

Sure it is. It is just not a geewun classics version. Kinda like this Whirl here, and any other figure Hasbro has released since the last wave of Generations in 2011.

No... it really isn't. And yes, this Whirl is most definitely a G1 classics version. Maybe not in official title or product line but just in the respect that it blows EVER single other version of Whirl since the original right out of the water in terms of being faithful to it's original namesake.
That p.o.s. re-paint FoC "Roadbuster"... let us not speak of that insult any more. That...thing...is not worthy of the Roadbuster name nor has any other iteration since the original been anything more than just a slap in the face.

Technically, Whirl should not have a Gerwalk mode to begin with. For starters, Roadbuster and Whirl are from a different series called Armored Trooper Dorvack, and not Macross where the form originated (and it wasn't added to the Robotech adaptation at all). Secondly the Oberon Gazette toy that Whirl is based on had no such documented feature, nor is it even possible as the hips are directly attached to the front of the cockpit.

It'll more than likely look better than this. You know those photographers, they can't be bothered with how to transform something properly.

You know, I can almost see MTMTE Whirl there. Just extend the arms and put a head on it.

Mmgghh...the legs in robot mode are as awkward as hell. The arms don't help his case. E-ZPass.

Is there supposed to be a big gap between the legs and cockpit in alt mode? Is Whirl mis-transformed in the pictures?

I wouldn't know, I do know that the hips are supposed to be slid back down to the front of the cockpit for robot mode.

Just in from HK-TF member stevenhyk we have some in-hand images of the upcoming Transformers Generations 30th Anniversary Voyager Whirl. The figure boast a very G1 appearance and even comes with a decal sheet and his four trademark accessories. Check out the images mirrored below:

He may not be the Whirl I wanted, but he looks to be a damn good Whirl regardless.

I wonder if a Kreon can fit in the pilot seat...

Actually springer was just too big. I think scale was disregarded in springer because kids think big is cool. This new whirl figure figure seems a bit shorter and is more to my liking. It should go nicely with the upcoming fansproject Roadbuster.

Well I like the stickers, only because it means that the big obnoxious autobot symbols are optional, kinda like the kre-o sets.

Stickers?! Sheesh, Hasbro's pulling out all the stops on the maximum G1-ness of this thing. :KREMZEEK:

He's not the Whirl we deserve, but he is the Whirl we need. :P

Though I actually like the AM series I can't help but point out that those stickers are more or less "necessary" to apply in the absence of paint apps in key areas while these ones are more optional. This way people can have their comic-accurate or toy-accurate versions. That said I'm sure people will complain about these.

I liked the idea of the stickers on the AM line, but sadly the execution was questionable, mostly because rather than adding extra detail they replaced paint apps. I still enjoyed adding them to my Ratchet but they are tricky and feel they are filling the wrong purpose. I loved the optional decals way back on TT's MP 3 Starscream, I loved and added the stripes to BT Skids, Gen Metroplex was a hoot, I decided not to add the faction sticker to MP Tigertrack and this, well this is a nice surprise!:D
I keep forgetting Whirl is even coming...still haven't got Rhinox and Waspinator :-(

If I never knew about that figure before and someone came and showed me that and asked who I thought it was I would say Whirl. So I'm happy with this Whirl.

I wonder if the stickers are a homage thing, or just some weird way to save money, or maybe even let the fans choose what apps go on him? As long as they're good quality stickers I'm not sure I mind, but the Arms Micron ones were a bit poo.

Him being smaller than Springer, Grimlock and them isn't a bad thing. Makes him closer in height to Classics Cyclonus at least. For "REAL GLARING ACTION!"

Stickers?! Wow. They really are going old school with this guy. Part of me says "No. Not again. You fooled me once with Metroplex, shame on you. You won't fool me twice." And then another part of me says "Okay, shame on me. Those are so getting put on."

Impressive that they added that feature, at least for the G1 fans. Guess Hasbro IS paying attention to detail. More so than we thought.

How can they honestly say Whirl has 3 modes? That's pretty much B.S.

I'm not a fan of the backwards chicken-legs, but then I wasn't a fan of his original skis either so it's not like my position has changed. I'm guessing he won't be visiting the UK anyway, like the rest of his voyager mates.

I like this, but damnit hasbro, if sticker sheets are gonna be a thing again, for the love of god make replacement sheets available on your website! I have several stickers missing from metroplex because they got ripped or fell on the carpet and wouldn't stick.

I hope that his legs can actually bend like they do on his box art and in the concept art we saw ages ago. hopefully he will be in reviewer's hands soon so we can really see what he can do

I always thought Grimmy's size was due to being so damn hollow, and Springer (and Blitz) to being Triple Changers.
