Anyone else would be okay with a CHUG-BW line with that kind of esthetic as 10th anniversary Megs?

Oh D-Max is in here showing off his BW collection? That's cute, step aside Padawan.

I kid. Image

But in breaking news ... I found which box the Predacons are in!

After having set up the first year Maximals, I was able to keep going onto the next shelf with the first year Predacons.

I hate setting up Transformers ...

But of course, one benefit is you get to play with each figure. I've come to the conclusion that BW was hit and miss in terms of engineering.

Ball joints? Hey fantastic idea! Until they get old and loose and won't bloody pose properly!

But seriously ... the transformations are amazing ideas, take Scorponok for example. Here you have a nearly flat alt mode. You transform him, and you'd think there'd be all these empty spaces, but no, they fill in and you suddenly have yourself a very solid robot mode.

With a giant **** tail that makes posing on a shelf really **** hard!
"For the royalty, hold my beer!"
Yeah no, just calm down Inferno, I know your ant butt is a much larger annoyance than Scorponok and his tail.

Next step, the Transmetals, which means facing the reality of a broken TM1 Megatron.

I think that was called the Jungle Planet portion of the Cybertron toyline :P
Seriously though, BW 10th Anniversary Deluxe Optimus Primal and Megatron were designed to fit the Jungle Planet aesthetic so that the molds could also work in the Cybertron line; apparently this was done in case the plans for the Beast Wars 10th Anniversary release fell through (according to Aaron Archer).

Isnt quickstrike difficult too with that snake arm?

He's the next shelf. But yeah, he will be.

A few of them were like that because of their animal parts, but they were still brilliant for their time.

Sigh..
My hand-less Tarantulas and one armed TM Terrorsaur certainly bring the ball joint wear issue screaming back to me... :(
Also, as much as preferred the toy design of Scorponok to the show, it is nigh-impossible to pose him in anything approaching dynamic. If only they weighted the claws to balance out the tail...

Rogue-Primal wrote:Isnt quickstrike difficult too with that snake arm?

I always found he was a different kind of an issue. Scorponok's tail problem is threefold. It is heavy, it is back kibble and it has a gimmick. In contrast, due to the multiple ball joints, you can even wrap Quickstrike's tail around him. The problem with his tail is degrading ball joints more than weight.

Transmetal Megatron is a tragedy with his breakage issues.

Quickstrike really worked out for me because you can lower his arm and have him hold the snake head, and he takes up very little space.

But if we want to talk about issues with getting figures on shelves, frikkin Depthcharge and Rampage. Depthcharge is so deep and so big, he should be near the back, but you have so much room behind him thanks to that tail! thankfully it props him up, but he uses so much space. Same with Rampage with those massive claws and how far out the crab legs reach. TM Inferno has that same issue to a lesser extent.

Beast figures were not designed to be easy to shelve up

What about shelving Rampage in tank mode?
Image
Seems more compact, and that way you could sit or stand other figures on him.

Indeed, they are from an era where kibble was still being figured out how to balance inbetween gimmicks and articulation, resulting in notoriously lopsided, bulky figures at bigger price points.

I've actually not thought of him in tank mode, but i think some of the Neo guys will go in beast mode, they take up much less space in beast mode

I never had Rampage as a kid...it sucks to know we'll never see a proper remake of him. Likely not even in third party form.

Don't lose hope, there's always a chance PerfectEffect will do him like they did their other BW figures. (And who knows, if they do we might get a Shokaract out of the mold, and we can finally own one without spending a farcical amount on a redeco with absurdly flaky chrome!)

Rampage is a great toy though. Slightly better articulation and he'd be perfect, and his crab mode is absolutely stellar.

I agree, Rampage is stellar. I love how you can rotate his crab claws up onto his shoulders and use them as extra arms. And he is really heavy too, there is a lot of bot there!

One thing I noticed yesterday as the unpacking continued, is the number of figures that have heads like a Xenomorph, in that they have this massive huge cranium to accommodate a missile launching from their mouth gimmick.

Makes for displaying them in robot mode quite difficult.

Amen to that. Bighorn is difficult for robot mode display because his robot mode is basically the same length as his beast mode because of the full body missile launcher, but now he is wider

That's what I do. I've got Quickstrike sitting on him right now.

Rubber tank treads was the thing I remember most about my old Rampage. That really surprised me, back in the day.

The only hope really lies in Masterpiece. The problem with that is that, other than Rattrap and Cheetor, the Transmetals all dwarf Season One Megatron. Depthcharge and Rampage loom over the tallest of them. Prices would be insane :HEADHURTS:

And other bots like Transquito look ugly with his mouth missile. If he wasnt already ugly enough then i say this is even more of a reason some might not want him.

Rampage has to be one of the most cleverly designed Transformers of all time. The way the treads hide and are used in the tank mode, the way the barrel rolls when he rolls, it's just so much fun. And it was the birth of the galvaconductors wasn't it? I loved the tech readouts on the backs of the packages.

Until I got SS Rampage I didn't realize how crab faced he is it really reminds me of BW Rampage, and they both have big treads in/on their big clawed hands. Probably an observation made before but until I had it in hand I was like ahhhh cool I mean they even both have that reddish color to them.

I would love to see them tweak the existing MP Dinobot mold somehow into Dinobot II. That in an MP rendition would be uhhh-mazing. I'm just thinking of all that deep blue and the red chrome. Give him a light up eye? Articulated tongue. Dude...so cool.

Nah, he needs a new mold as the Transformation is different. He would be freaky and awesome in equal measures, oh and a masterpiece Optimus Minor  no, but seriously even if the scale guide means that we don't get many season 2 or 3 characters, as long as we get Silverbolt...(and MP Lio Junior, Stantor and Skywarp...)

Dinobot II would have to be a wholly new mold.

I guess I should have said if they just made Dinotbot II, period. One way or the other. That would be amazing to see. And at the size it'd be more reasonable to think they could do it than one of the larger characters. Just wishful thinking.

I loved his whole character arc but it felt rushed in that last season. Such great writing.
