I like this, if it was more affordable I would definitely buy because it looks absolutely beautiful. The SS gimmick doesn't make sense, and kinda sucks since that jacks up the price, but I don't think this is pointless or anything. Maybe one day they'll give us one more reasonably price.

I wonder if the tires are rubber?

New Hot Toys Optimus Prime Starscream Version In Box, In Hand and HD Images!

It's been while since we had some news on Hot Toys' Optimus Prime Starscream edition figure. He was actually up on BBTS a year ago and is still on preorder. He is out in Hong Kong though and the snakas blog has some picutres of how this figure looks like in the box as well as some in hand images. Hot Toys themselves posted a TON of HD images of this new figure and you can see them all here. Some have been posted below as well. I know what you are thinking. True, it doesn't Transform, it isn't an outright G1 reference and 345$ is quite a bit of money to spend... but you can't deny how good he looks!

You are a year late to the party, perhaps read the previous posts to catch up? Either way Murderous-Prime does look pretty good. He needs to hold more Decepticon heads like a robot voodoo witch doctor to complete the insane look. Will I even consider buying this? HELL NO!

Here's a better shot of that last one where he is holding the head of his vanquished foe:

Oh and I wont be getting it either. At that price, this toy better come to life and make me dinner!

Whoever was lead designer on this, really doesn't seem to get transformers.

If I had the money, I'd get it for the sole fact that Optimus took Starscream's face.

Like I wrote in the article, this isnt reltaed to anything. it's just to look cool (and cost way more). There is a "megatron version" too:

Is that version in possession of Megatron's face?

It doesnt seem like it. However, I hear hot toys is fond of selling sets in pieces, meaning that you could buy the head in a seperate edition or on it's own or something like that. I actually think Meg's guns look really bad on Prime that way. I preffer the wings, at least they look symetrical and more functional.

Yeah, Starscream's wings definitely look better on Optimus. The only way I'd buy the Megatron version is if it came with a Megatron face for him to hold.

Would you buy it at 350-400$? If it had the face I mean.

If I actually had $350-$400, maybe.

If I had that money to spend, I would first catch up on the MP figures I missed (Magnus and Bee).

Imagine if there was a version of G1 Optimus who was even more of a murderous psycho than Movie Optimus, so psycho that after killing and mutilating Starscream (and Megatron) in cold oil he strung up the parts of his opponent's corpse and attached them to his own body to wear as trophies in all their ghoulish glory.

That is what this thing represents.

In other words, it's a representation of what the darkest, most delirious corner of the fandom believes they grew up watching on TV back in the 80's. 8-}

I'm just a fan of Optimus ripping faces off. I don't put much value into sentimental things. But this would be one of them I do. In all honesty though, if I had that money, I'd probably end up saving up for the Prime 1 Studios AOE Optimus. That's what I want. It'd be nice to have both of them. But no one seems to want to pay me what's due. >:oP

That scene is the first thing that came to mind for me too. It may have been brought up earlier on when this product was first mentioned way back, but I don't care to backtrack that far to verify that. I'll just call it a safe assumption. Either way, it should go a long ways towards dispelliing the "WTF?" moment that a lot of folks seem to be having.

Yeah, this thing looks way cool in a psychotic rampage kind of way but there is a snowballs chance that I'm going to pay that kind of money for a poseable statue that references a 3 second snippet from a single cartoon episode. I'll pick up a Prime of my choice and some Seeker parts or an F-15 model kit and make one that's fully transformable for about 1/5 of their asking price.

Actually it's probably not referencing that scene for two reasons. 1 starscreams shoulder intakes aren't on prime. And 2. The starscream head isn't an alternate heade meant to go on the prime body, it's an accessory meant to be primes trophy. This is most likely a loose reference to the end of ROTF, the prime using someomes cannibalized parts to upgrade himself. This figure really strikes me as being designed by someone with a cursory knowledge of G1, thought dreamwave was "totally radical yo!" And watched the last 30 minutes of the bay movies.

I honestly just like the look of this figure. If I either had the money or it was cheaper, I'd display him without the Starscream wings just because he looks impressive and battle-worn. He can still be fierce without being a psychotic murderer.

I totally agree that the prime figure itself looks awesome. The starscream design idea is terrible but the prime part is sweet. As far as that price goes - that's really about the price of admission for hot toys! Look at the prices of some of the Iron man figures they release. It's designed to be a high end super detailed figure - that's what got toys does.

The Starscream idea is a cool one that lots of kids would enjoy, too bad no kids are gonna get this toy lol. I like it for sure, but I would have to get quite the discount to buy.

Well i think if i wanted a build a figure id get into the marvel stuff. This inclusion of accessories for starscream and then megatron while odd tells me theres an Optimus version coming with roller (one needs to look no further than their numerous iron man reduces).
While this doesn't hold interest for me now its a nice alternative for those who Don't have $2k for the prime 1 stuff. Honestly though between this the metal earth stuff and other potable statues being released I'm happy hastak knowing that high end collectors aren't being left out of the fun. Hopefully these versions sell well as id love to see more stuff. For me though ill stick to the MP's.

Man that's a gruesome picture. Someone photoshop this Optimus black with red eyes and it'll make much more sense.

Nontransformable but with overall stance less attractive than MP-10. I have to say HT still has a long way to go in terms of transformers, ie, they better stay on their Ironman.
