Well, I have mine on a smooth metal shelf, and I usually don't have much problem getting him into a pose I want. Obviously you are right that certain poses will be an issue, and it is best to not have him leaning back or forward too far. But for a long time pose, as long as his feet are semi-flat and his center of gravity isn't too far off from between them, he seems to hold up pretty well!

Man, though, it was a pain in the arse posing him for that one photo of him I have with one leg in the air, ha ha.

But overall, he is quite well poseable for such a behemoth, as you yourself seem to be enjoying discovering. :D
