Imo, it’s kind of ridiculous that Ditritus was released first, when the mold used was clearly intended for Hound.

Hound is ready to go apparently (along with Hatchet), but Target wanted to hold them back to do more ROTB exclusives. They'll hopefully turn up soon since they've already done Tow-Line and the dead guys.

So this has been confirmed?

Personally, I think Hound should have been the main line release with Ditritus being the exclusive.

A Sunstreaker refresh would be nice, they could address the whole color not matching issue. For some reason he does seem as if it sold out quicker than others, but I'm probably misremembering.

Oh 100%... This whole situation with Hound is one of those decisions where I can't really explain/justify or defend Hastak.
Even if Hound did get a NF release (I'm not remembering), that was an exclusive.
With this, isn't Ditritus a made-up Junkion? Because if so, it's impossible to say there was some loud outcry from a substantial number of fans or collectors who desperately wanted this figure.
Imo, this release simply tumbles into the, "People-may-buy-it-just-because-it's-new" category.
The only way I'd buy Ditritus is if it were $5; and then I'd take it apart/break it to use in my future diorama with Jhiaxus and Tarn as a destroyed bot.
All this to say, yeah, it's baffling that this guy is in the mainline over Hound.
Espcially when you look at the lack of G1 characters in the mainline next year.

Till-all-R1 wrote:A Sunstreaker refresh would be nice, they could address the whole color not matching issue. For some reason he does seem as if it sold out quicker than others, but I'm probably misremembering.

Sunstreaker was one from the two ER waves that I never saw in-store. Pretty sure the pandemic was to blame. I still remember the only place I saw Smokescreen was my local Aldi. Which was so bizarre.
This also relates to the reason I've bought 2 of the Trooper 4-packs-- I never saw any Allicons.
(which reminds me I need to make a post in the Buzzworthy thread)

Like I said, I believe that leaked listing is legit; I'm hoping there is a bit of improved retooling, and of course matching yellow plastic and paint would be nice.
I'm always up for new molds because most times they are improved... But with this character, I'm not sure it will happen...
Although it would open the door for another release of Sideswipe and Red Alert.
*I'm not saying this would be at all necessary, but both ER versions of those characters were exclusives.
Plus Hastak doesn't commonly pass on ways to make $$$ from repaints/retools.

It will be interesting to see if a new SS86 Sunstreaker is made sans clear plastic.
That right there would help with color-matching the yellow.

Detritus was first created by TakaraTomy designer Hirofumi Ichikawa and released by e-HOBBY back in 2004.

Image

He later received a second toy in 2012 in the Transformers: United EX line, which was the Japanese counterpart to Hasbro's Power Core Combiners line. Since all of the toys in that line were given aliases instead of their real names (for in-story purposes), his United EX toy was sold under the name of "Roadmaster", and was a redeco of PCC Mudslinger.

Image

Legacy Detritus is his third toy, based on his first toy from 2004, and the first time he has ever been sold in Hasbro's markets outside of Japan.

Sideswipe and Red Alert on on any of my must redo lists, the Kingdom versions work just fine for me. Red Alert being a Walgreens exclusive was a bit of a pin, but I was eventually able to get one.

I knew there was a chance that Ditritus had an origin of some sort…
None the less, putting him before Hound was a bad choice imo.

I have no issues with either of these figures.
But again, I’d be more than okay with a retooled Sunstreaker.

I really wish Detritus was a Selects figure. As far as I'm concerned he's just filling a spot that could have been used by someone else. He never would have worked in the Buzzworthy line since Hound is going to be a SS86 figure for sure, but he's the odd Junkion out in a series dominated by Junkions. Somehow Tow-Line got to use a Junkion body when he could have been a more fitting Hoist repaint, but an actual Junkon doesn't get to share the line wide Junkion aesthetic. I really can't wrap my head around the choice, should have held off another year on him and put him in United if nothing else.

All good points…
And Detritus doesn’t come off as a Junkion at all with this mold imo.

Under different circumstances, he probably would have been Selects or something.

How does Hound suddenly jump from his announced Buzzworthy slot to SS86? Where are you getting that from?

Eh... Neither's really a particularly great match if one factors in robot mode, but the Scraphook mold is a better match for Tow-Line's truck mode without retooling.

Looks more like a semi, and has a towhook boom as opposed to Hoist's platform.
And of course, there's the matter of needing to furnish a Scraphook redeco for the combiner.

Emerje wrote:but an actual Junkon doesn't get to share the line wide Junkion aesthetic.
To be fair, Detritus has never fit the usual Junkion aesthetic.

It's probably because of the RotB stuff pushing back Hound's release. By putting Detritus in Evolution, they at least get to make some money off the new tooling this year.

A SS Buzzworthy figure, just like all the other "mainline" figures that got toon accurate decos in SS86 in Buzzworthy like the Ironhide and Prowl set and Cliffjumper.

I don't think either one is a particularly great choice in vehicle mode since Scraphook is also just a pickup that got the Mad Max treatment. Plus Hoist and Tow-Line have similar bot shapes. I also don't consider the hook to be Tow-Line's defining trait in itself, being a tow truck is so one tow truck is so a platform is just as good as a hook. Now if he kept the Japanese name that would be a different story, but then I'd prefer a retooled Hoist with a hook or even a new voyager mold all together.

Image

And of course, there's the matter of needing to furnish a Scraphook redeco for the combiner.

Tow-Line isn't part of Junkasaurus the way Mark and the live stream showed it, Axlegrease is. Though realistically there's probably no right or wrong way to do it, just depends on how OK you are with Decepticon in the mix.

Emerje wrote:but an actual Junkon doesn't get to share the line wide Junkion aesthetic.

Yeah, but that just goes back to why I think he would have been a better fit for Selects, he doesn't fit the Junkion aesthetic so sticking him in a line with a very well defined Junkion aesthetic makes him look very out of place. It'd be like if Combiner Wars randomly included a single Power Core Combiner.

Hasbro already made their money off Hound when it became a Target exclusive, delaying it would have no affect on them.

Well, that's certainly ironic, considering how, in his debut episode, when he wasn't shouting "No parking means no parking!" every five minutes, he was yelling "Wrecker Hook!" every other five minutes. ;)

Not for visual resemblance, it isn't. Tow-Line had a boom, so does Scraphook. Hoist does not, and he also has the wings assembly.
And aside from looks, Hoist is also a figure made to go with the now-dropped A.I.R.Lock gimmick. That may have played a role. Or maybe Mark Maher - who was apparently the one really pushing the idea and hyper-impatient to get a Tow-Line done - just likes the Scraphook mold better.

Emerje wrote:Now if he kept the Japanese name that would be a different story, but then I'd prefer a retooled Hoist with a hook or even a new voyager mold all together.
I mean, a new mold would definitely have been better. But I don't think it was in the cards, especially with Maher's impatience.

Emerje wrote:Image

The shapes are a bit similar, but the chest isn't quite right; it would still need a significant retool. And Tow-Line doesn't have wings or big arm panels.

Tow-Line as an Autobot alt to Axlegrease may have been on Mark's mind.

Maybe they wanted to have at least one mainline release of the mold after the expense of all that retooling, and since Hound was locked in as an exclusive they were stuck making it Detritus. And it's possible Mark Maher wasn't bothered by the mismatch.

Mmmm... They can't really call that money theirs til Target actually stocks him; Target could easily cancel.

I am personally glad Detritus got the mainline release. I like him.

Siege Hound was a retail figure, so his retool into an earth version as an exclusive is fine by me. Those who care about that differences are the ones who would buy the exclusive anyways. It's also why I had no issue with ER Ironhide, Prowl, etc. as exclusives.

I'm honestly not bothered by him getting a mainline release either. And people have obviously bought him in my area; it feels like every LE Deluxe not named Crosscut or Axlegrease has evaporated off the pegs around here.

On a more actually-Earthrise note, some comparisons between Earthrise and Generations Dirge.

Has there been any comment from anyone at Hasbro why the Earthtrise Coneheads have orange canopies when that's inaccurate to both the cartoon and the original toys?

So, earlier this year, I posted a pic of my haul from BotCon 2023, which included eleven Earthrise Soundbarriers. Prior to then, I had already acquired seven Soundbarriers, making a total of eighteen.

For a while now, I've been hinting on occasion that I bought so many Soundbarriers because I needed them for something very particular. Something I was building.

In the time since, I've completed this building project, but only now have finally taken pics of what it is.

This project required a full total of 31 individual figures:
  • Siege Countdown ×1
  • Earthrise Soundbarrier ×18
  • Earthrise Sky Lynx ×1
  • Earthrise Ironworks ×1
  • Earthrise Airwave ×1
  • Earthrise Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission Ironworks ×1
  • Earthrise Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission Overair ×1
  • Earthrise Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission Fuzer ×1
  • Earthrise Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission Blast Master ×1
  • Earthrise Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission Moonrock ×1
  • Earthrise Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission Missile Master ×1
  • Selects Greasepit ×1
  • Selects Hot House ×1
  • Legacy Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Galaxy Shuttle ×1

Behold, the Zone Base.

Instead of going the easy route for the roads by buying some 3P kit, you hunted down 18 SoundBarriers.

That take dedication!
And the final results look great!

Not so much "hunted down" as "bought 7 from Ollie's, then 11 from a BotCon vendor". ;)

Plus I don't know about any 3P road kits.

Wow, that's pretty neat! I'm only lightly familiar with Zone, but I know about the base. You did a great job, and my own liking of space shuttles makes me jealous you got all of them. It might not be accurate to the show, but if you have Armada Jetfire you should include him somehow.

This also kinda reminds me of my own persistence over the last 5 years to complete the roster of Bots and Cons for the 1st issue of the Marvel comics.

Great work, Saber. looks awesome.
And yes, there are 3rd party panels that are either duel AIR/ COMBAT or for each system. Might be worth looking into but if not, still an awesome job with what you snagged to put it together.

Yes that is a pretty great deluxe mold, works for both Battlechargers. My only complaint is that the lower legs are too wide, should have made those with foldable panels.
