I have never felt comfortable with Crypto or NFTs, whenever I hear about them they're linked to some criminal enterprise.

Hasbro and Funko, you had better be reading, this is terrible and EVERYONE thinks so

They are really pushing this NFT cancer.
The only way for this to stop is for people to say NO and close their wallets. But we all know that there will be enough Funko fans that are also gamblers to make this profitable.
One more thing is that they will never be stuck with an "overstock" of NFT. So they can SCAM people out of their money with zero risks.

Truly a shame that this NFT scam... wasn't invented by me. [-(

Pretty sure digital trading cards are different to nfts but hey ho. Plus a physical funko is offered for those who obtain a set as well as through the rare chance tokens which might explain the higher number of funkos available through this scheme.

It's written "nft edition" on said boxes though.

Since crypto-currency and NFT stuff is all imaginary, I'll just imagine that I have this Devastator Pop and that will be sufficient!

We can look at what they're offering and guess what retail versions will look like. A regular Matrix Prime, Devastator with red visor, cartoon Hot Rod, cartoon Rumble and Frenzy (red visor Rumble), and Sideswipe with jetpack.

It wouldn't be so bad if they were just digital trading cards, but they're saved as NFTs to blockchains which are constantly written to by PCs running complex calculations which consume a lot of energy hence the environmental complaints.

Despite the complaints and negative feedback, thanks to the likes of Meta / Facebook, companies like Hasbro and Funko are betting on NFTs becoming "normal" once people get over the growing pains.

But to what end? What is the purpose of these becoming accepted in normal society?
I thought the goal of normalizing NFTs was merely to in turn normalize transactions involving Crypto currency. But the link ti Crypto currency isn't even made here.

People aren't going to get over the growing pains, or at least they shouldn't, because NFTs and crypto are hot garbage whose bad uses and costs outweigh any good they offer.

Whoever at Hasbro has the NFT infatuation deserves to be canned, and Funko deserves to burn if they don't stop associating with NFT crap.

Facebook is in some serious hot water over their business practices, hopefully it'll burn them enough to make said practices less attractive for the MBA smegheads at other companies to mimic.

I'm hardly an expert, but from my understanding is that crypto (at least most of them) also use block chains and in some cases the same ones that are used by NFTs. It's also common from NFTs to be only purchasable through crypto.

As far as end goal goes, that's where Meta comes in. Meta is currently building their own metaverse, a virtual space that is supposed to be like a real world version of Oasis from Ready Player One. The idea is that you'll eventually be able to access NFTs inside Meta's metaverse. Go into your NFT house, hang your NFT art on walls and flip through your deck of Funko NFT cards. There are a lot of metaverses out there, but Meta didn't change its name to that for nothing (I mean aside from legal troubles), not to mention buying VR company Oculus, building new AI super computers and interest in quantum computing. They're betting on their metaverse to become the biggest one that all of the companies will want to be a part of. If NFTs do eventually become normal and more common then expect them to be even more obnoxious as companies try to figure out what people are going to want in their virtual space (NFT carpets, NFT socks, NFT pets). Right now its at an infant stage, we'll see if it takes off like color TV or crashes like 3D movies. I doubt we'll know until Meta can show a functional proof of concept and how all of this works together. Meta has a net worth of nearly $600B, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon and have the money to pump into whatever project or agenda they feel like pushing to completion, fail or succeed.

So, it's like Playstation Home on PS3, but more scammy.

I'm just looking forward on some server crash that will take all that virtual nothingness into the grave, making people who invested in physical goods like gold and titanium laugh.

Or like Second Life.

Because blockchains exist on a network of computers it's really impossible for them to go down, there is no central server. Even NFT and crypto wallets don't actually store the data, just the location on the blockchain where your "thing" is located.

I didn't buy any. Though I did make a gif of that matrix prime to give to whoever wanted an avatar without paying for it.

I'm not surprised, the Funko fanbase and resellers were enough for these to sell without a single Transformers fan buying in. Anything to get their hands on rare Pops.

And we already knew how... gullible they are. A few months back in a Facebook group I'm in, someone was asking if they thought they should get their Funko collection insured--and I asked them if they learned nothing from the Beanie Baby craze in the 90s?

I'm looking forward to the time when the Pop craze will crash and burn, punishing all those who only seek to profit from it.

Funko revealed a new Jumbo Sized Funko Pop Unicron that measures 10 inches tall. We now know this is a shared exclusive between Gamestop and San Diego Comic Con 2022. At San Diego, it will be sold at “Funkoville” from July 21st through July 24th. Below is an image of the cute chaos bringer along with sheet showing all the exclusives for various retailers. We see Unicron, Batman Returns' Penguin and more under the Gamestop section.

This looks cool, but really not something I feel compelled to have. I have my few "icons' as far as pops go- Godzilla, He-Man, Voltron, Optimus Prime, Ultraman.

I also got Ken the Eagle from Gatchaman, because that's something I thought I'd never see.

Godzilla is the only slightly larger Pop I have ( 6 inch instead of 4) but I really have no place for a big Unicron Pop. I've actually seen the big ones go on clearance at Walmart. As a convention/store exclusive I doubt this will go on sale, but stranger things have happened

I'm a little surprised it hasn't happened yet, especially with this many exclusives. But the big difference is that Beanie Babies didn't have licensed designs originally so they lacked the widespread crossover appeal that Pops have. Beanie Babies were just good for a quick endorphin rush for collectors, they didn't exactly have lasting character appeal.

I'm really surprised by how long these... things are lasting. Wouldn't have bet 2 cents, I always considered them little more than a waste of plastic with a bad designs (Those. Eyes!).

Still probably someone out there has the same opinion about our beloved Transformers...
