Many of the Titans in IDW comics looked like Metroplex as well. It's kind of a lore standard. Still, Unlike Seekers and Datsuns. Recoloring a Titan a dozen times isn't really practical.
I love what has been released, but recolored/retooled Titans dont seem to do well, and are very risky a the $200 price point.
I love my Legends Grand Max, but the fact that it failed to get much more than 2000 units backed in a Japan-only crowd fund in 2017/2018 says something. Also I love Black Zarak, but that had a heavily retooled head, and some extra accessories. Still it went on clearance for almost 50% off at some point.
The Guardian Robot is just a straight up repaint, and while it seems to be received fairly well, I have little doubt its price will be dropping soon.
It just reminds me of the power of the OG animated series. If a straight up recolor of a toy based on a character that is supposed to just be a generic troop builder can be marketed easily than say...
Metrotitan (which also would be a straight up recolor), but is a character that only appeared in a late G1 Japanese story pages, or IDW comics (depending on which version of MT you think of).... that really says something.
Primus would easily be a Haslab, if Hasbro was ever so bold,
But for me, while there may yet be several different characters from across the multiverse that could be made into a Titan Class toy, there ae only 2 I would want, BOTH are in my signature.
