Upcoming custom Wheeljack set

Received an e-mail from these guys regarding this upcoming set. I believe the same people who created the Drift resin set earlier in the year are working on this. Here is a link to their page: http://mastercollectors.blogspot.com/

I bought a set on Ebay, I already have an extra Universe Sunstreaker I had intended on making into a custom Wheeljack so I figured why not.

I got an email about it on Friday from Retrozone and another today from Mastercollectable. I'm still on the fence about it.

Too crappy for me to care.

I like the idea, but the only way for that to work right would be to re-do everything that is either red or yellow into wheeljack's colours.

I think I'll wait for Hasbro on this.

I agree. Despite the similar shape a lamborghini does not make a Wheeljack.

I have 2 issues with it.

1) I hate unnecessary reuses of the same mold. Between Sunstreaker, Sideswipe and the upcoming Punch/Counterpunch, I'm done with this mold. Adding to it isn't going to make it any more acceptable to me.

2) I have Energon Downshift as Wheeljack. Why bother taking a Sideswipe apart, repainting it white, adding the new parts and stickers and hoping the whole thing works when Hasbro sold me what I wanted 5 years ago?

Pass. Nothing against them or their work but it's a headache I don't need.

I would prefer an official release from Hasbro, but I just don't see it anytime in the "near" future. I think our best chance for getting a decent WJ would have been from the Animated line, and that's no longer a possibility. Maybe we'll get lucky and he will show up in the next incarnation of the Classics/Uni line.

Obviously the intent in for the customer to repaint the entire figure, new parts and all, in WJ colors. They mention they are considering adding a decal sheet as well. My main concern is the fact that it will most likely be made of resin. I got the Drift resin kit and it was difficult to work with. I ended up handing mine off to a local guy with more expierience and still haven't gotten it back, he had problems as well. I don't think it looks that bad, I think it would really help it they had a finished example in the correct colors. I've seen a lot of custom WJ's that used this mold as a base and they looked great.

Interesting, I'd like to see a painted version of the figure+the set before I judge.

However, if they are selling it without a painted Sideswipe/Streaker:

is my opinion too.

Nice, but methinks I'll stick with Superlink Wheeljack as my Classics/Universe equivalent.

I've forked over all the cash on customs for 'completing' my Classics/Universe collection that I intend to, and that was with that first City Commander trailer. Not even that recent Arcee custom is enough to make me use anything but Movie Elita-1 in her place.

Yeah. I like the idea, but it seems like an awful lot of work and in the end, the final product doesn't look like it's going to be all that great. Maybe if I were more inclinded to doing customs this would be great, but it's not really striking any chord here.

They should have used the Classics Hot Rod mold since it is the closest vehicle mode to a Stratos.

I like this idea for a custom Wheeljack conversion kit! My only concern is durability of the produced parts. Transformers are meant to be transformed and so they need to be able to withstand regular handling. It seems that the majority of 3rd party produced products are fragile in comparison to the plastics used in Transformers figures.

Hmm, looks kind of cool, but for the cost and effort involved, I'm not really interested. I'm kind of tired of all the third-party custom stuff, FP is all I really care to follow.

I saw it. You want too much. But that's just my opinion.

This is what it will look like when finished.

If you have the time and an extra Sunstreaker it looks like it will be worth the $54.
