BUT if he turns into Hot Rod, I'll be all over this. Because a G1 accurate Hot Rod robot mode with a G1 accurate vehicle mode for one of my favorite all time TFs would make this into a must buy.

Albeit an overly expencive must buy.

Edit: And they could totally repaint this. Primus anyone? Black Rodimus? Crystal Clear Rodimus? And those are just the ones based on past toys.

I would definitely pick up a black repaint or crystal Rodimus. but also, like I said before.. Rodimus/Hot Rod whore :D

I didn't have much issue with MP Grimlock price since his dino mode is kind of big. Also, his G1 toys was pretty much accurate to the cartoon, so I didn't expect much with the MP line.

MP Rodimus on the hand is a little bit different. Judging from the prototype, his price should somewhere between 100 to 140. He got a small robot and simple trailer. If it's in that BBTS 199 assumption price, I expect a Hot Rod/Rodimus capability transformation. Otherwise, it would be a disappointment. As for the supporting rod, I am hoping it's for the purpose of people bumping/prototype material.

You could also have Hate Plague Rodimus and Comic Rodimus.

Why can they just make a Jazz or a devastator already. It would be so awesome to have a seven series release for dev. one can only dream

The reason is simple: The MP line is by TakaraTomy and it's a product line aimed at Japanese TF collectors. I think Rodimus Prime/Rodimus Convoy is more of a prominent character to Japanese fans than Jazz/Meister and Devastator/Devastor. Therefore, it makes more sense for TT to make MP Rodimus before MP Meister or MP Devastor.

I am impressed with one thing, something I didn't think they'd be able to pull off...his arm transformation. It looks like it pivots around like Hot Rod's did in the movie, where the fenders spin 180 to create the arms.

If that's the case, then they've truly impressed me, because that's never been accomplished before.

I hope you're right about a Hot Rod mode, I really do. That would be truly impressive. What do you mean about the arms? It looks fairly simple to me, the 'vents' are probably just covered by the front of the car which folds up on his back.

Optimus Rigas wrote:"The prototype has a regal and statuesque appearance in bot mode, which I like."

Very well put. :BOT:

Indeed. :D

Gauntlet101010 wrote:Actually, these pictures make me think he *can* turn into Rodimus. The back setup suggests a fully formed Roddie vehicle mode, the face seems to rotate and even the gun looks like it cxan transform.

Hmm...yes, all those appear to be true...all this speculation is making me excited again. I really hope it's true. Maybe that's the main gimmick they're waiting to reveal.

Seibertron wrote:
I guess I'm really surprised that the flames aren't molded into his chest and trailer.

I'm suprised too. I would've thought that would make a lot of sense. Maybe it's because this is still an early prototype?

Edit: Speculation on a Hot Rod mode - I was looking closely at both the vehicle mode and close up view of the back of the figure, and noticed a few things (some mentioned before):

-Obviously lots of panels on the back of the bot
-The part where the spoiler is attached looks very much like the back of Hot Rod's car mode
-Helmet hinge suggesting it folds up for a rotating face
-Transforming gun
-Legs look almost as though there's a large, armor-type panel covering a smaller leg underneath (though his feet would be HUGE in comparison)
-Windshield part on the back appears longer than that of the vehicle mode
-Vehicle mode has a vertical hinge right where the cab meets the trailer, almost as if a whole side panel folds out from the trailer, perhaps part of a false front to cover the Hot Rod car.
-Vehicle mode front wheels do not match those of the bot mode arms...maybe the rear of the car becomes the front of the Winnebago, the spoiler rotates, and the false front comes down to cover the car back? Or it's just a different proto and they changed the wheel design, which would be way less convoluted.

Actually, I think we're looking at two different designs here. There are too many differences between the bot & alt modes. :( At least the possibility of a Hot Rod mode is very substantiated.

Oh, wait..., If this is supposed to be released in 2011, I don´t think it would be part of the 2010, so what´s the other spot for in the takara 2010 page?

No but, for example, Cartoon model of Prime didn´t have the wheels on the side of the legs, and it´s MP counterpart did, it´s like based more on the toy, than the cartoon, they add a lot more realism, detail, and compactness; that´s what I meant by G1-ish. ;)

He is the last one, December 2010. That doesn't mean he'll be released in that month per se, keeping delays in mind.

I like it. He's a bit thin, and I will probably use the other face if there is one. But that thing will look spectacular with paint.

Hm, after viewing the TFW2005 board, some of the posters over there kind of point out the Hot Rod mode. I'm convince of the Hot Rod mode, take a look:

Thats exactly what I was saying earlier. Also they have a pic of the back of the leg which I haven't seen anywhere earlier.
It's like MP Convoy, the stomach grill isnt the actual lorry grill. They have hidden parts resembling alt mode parts but more stylised and to give a more pleasing bot mode. In a way it's kind of weird that the robot mode is dictated by it's alt mode, but to give a more anime look, more stylised pieces are flipped out. Powermaster optimus prime did this first I think, a more anime style lorry chest was hidden away. I like the fact it makes for a better robot but, it kinda makes the form follows function staement void.

I eat my hat too, there is definitely Hot Rod in there. Gonna have to buy two! :KREMZEEK:

Thanks for the info! The photo of the back of the legs is very interesting. If it is indeed a toy that has Rodimus Convoy/Prime and Hot Rod(imus) then wouldn't this mean it would be a quadruple changer? Two bot modes and two alt modes...this MP figure could possess a very intriguing level of toy engineering.

if that is indeed true i will preorder right now on sight but until prvoen other wise i will hold off untill we see more pictures to se if he convert to hotrod & rod prime from 1 figure that would be great edition to mp series and able to hold mp matrix in his chest as well but in the meantimne until we get more pictures of proof that he his rod / & rod prime all rolled into 1 my preorder is stand still in the meantime
